Bear Alaskan Compound Bow Review - In this video I provide an extensive review of the Bear Alaskan compound bow. This is one of Bear's new compound bows for the 2022 lineup. I will provide a link for purchasing one when it becomes available. For now you can consider this bow - amzn.to/3nca0a0
For now, I recommend getting blue loctite for putting on any screws you move or install when setting up this bow. Here is a link for that - amzn.to/3jnLkdv

    From one Sean to another i want to give a big Thank you. Just recently i had this wild desire to get into archery. I was browsing videos/reviews of compound bows as well as tips for starting archers. Your videos played a big part into getting into it. First video i watched was a review for the Bear Cruzer G2. After a lot of back and forth and finding a good pro shop in my area. I found my bow which was the Hyot torrex (sorry Bear) I am very happy with it. Again thank you for doing what you do. God Bless!

    You're bow reviews are the best out there. I have a 31 inch draw length and prefer to shoot 30, pro's have tried to correct me many times, but in a treestand, hunting, I find it more accurate and maneuverable with a slightly shorter draw than recommended. Thanks brother!

    I love Bear, my fist bow was a Bear. Lately I have overlooked them because they didn't have a bow that would go out to 31.5". It seems that I now have an option. The bow I shoot now is a 2016 xpedition xcentric 7. I have never kept a bow as long as I have my xcentric so I'm glad to hear the Bear reminds you of xpedition.

    Great review! I wonder if the Bomar stops or Lucky Stops would fit this model. I added the Bomars to a bear Escape and they really cleaned up the back wall. Not as dead solid as limb stops, but a big improvement over the factory rubber coated posts. FWIW, the Escape came with limb stops as an option, but they are so big and bulky, they cause clearance problems with the yoke. it was easier to just go to after-market cable stops.

    Great review, my brother has worked at bear for quite a few years now so I shoot bears and get a new one every year and I’ve toured the facility multiple times. I’d like to give you some info that might help or maybe you knew this already but I can’t tell from the video. The markings on the cam for draw length on the Alaskan do not directly line up with the draw length you want. Another words it states in the manual that the 6 mark on the cam (what you think would be 26 inches) is actually supposed to be 27. Again I don’t know if you knew this already and from the sounds of it even if you were using the numbers directly like one would think they work the chart doesn’t exactly work the way it should sounds more like 6 would equal 26.5 instead of 27 like the manual states. Also I picked up the resurgence this year because only a handful of Alaskans were built at the time and none in the color I wanted and the resurgence is the same bow as the Alaskan just in a rth package and different color choices which they had already built what I wanted at the time. It and by default the Alaskan are a home run for a mid tier bow in my opinion. Also just to clear up some confusion I often hear yes this is a cast riser bow but cast doesn’t mean what most people think. The riser cast comes as a solid piece of cast aluminum in the rough shape of the riser. No cutouts or holes and it’s over sized. It’s then put in a modern cnc machine that runs s program and machines out all the shapes and cut outs etc. then some minor hand finishing and off to hydro dipping. Also automated. The upper tier risers are machined from a solid billet of alloy the same way just starts with a stronger piece in the beginning. So better yes but you have to decide if it’s worth the extra cost for what you get in return. They machine all their cams and other parts in house from the same high grade alloys as does all other manufacturers. The limb blanks for most of their mid to upper tier bows comes from Gordon glass as most manufacturers use. Some of the entry level and mid tier bow limbs are designed and made in house using modern computer design, engineering and manufacturing. All manufacturers that build their bows in house are doing the same processes with the same materials with minor differences. That doesn’t make X bow the same as Y as they all strive to bring new tech and ideas to market some times they hit the mark sometimes they totally miss. I’m not saying everyone should shoot a Bear because of this all bows truly feel and shoot different. It’s up to the individual to try them and find what they like and what works for them. I just wanted to put facts out there so maybe it clears up some of the misinformation I hear constantly about brand A vs B etc.

    Regarding the draw lengths, I just went off of the owners manual for that cam in previous years and what the draw length was for the designated number, but I also knew that the draw lengths were not super accurate because when I put it at the longest possible setting, which is marketed as 31, and then I measured it, it came out a half inch long. From that, I knew that their draw lengths in general were not dead on even as advertised. I personally didn't mind because 31.5 fits me better than 31... God bless

    The Alaskan is a pro shop only bow, but I was able to mail order the same Bear Resurgence bow in RTH package. It is a great bow with forgiving specs, smooth draw, nice valley and hold, and good speed. I had 4 minor issues that were all easily correctable. 1. The fit between the riser hole and string stop was loose and will vibrate looser and if you overtighten the two grub screws, you risk crushing the carbon rod. I tightened the fit with layers of aluminum foil wrap around the rod and considered Blue Loctite on the screws, but so far the aluminum wrapping alone fixed it. 2. I corrected a right nock tear by shimming the cams with more shims on the left and a couple of right yoke twists (nothing extreme or unusual). Overall, very straight forward to tune and the hybrid cam yoke allows tuning of the top cam which generally needs more attention due to the cable torque angles. 3. I found a slight gap under the axle E-clips that I corrected by adding a thin 0.02 shim to the shim stack top and bottom to eliminate cam play. On some bows the E-clips can fling off and go missing, especially if they are damaged and loose fitting on the axles. To prevent this, I orient the open gap of each E-clip facing out so the shot inertia will force the E-clip into the axle shaft rather than away. If the E-clip rotates with shooting, you can apply a dab of Blue Loctite. Oriented this way, an undamaged E-clip will never fling off with shooting. 4. To mitigate some mild after shot vibration I attached a pair of Limbstop stabilizer heads to the lower riser quiver mount hole, which worked great. A string leech helped calm some of the twang. The Alaskan riser is shared on the Resurgence, Resurgence LD, Adapt, and Legend XR. It is a great riser, fairly light, metal limb pockets, a recess for your thumb knuckle, and a comfortable 32" ata. I held an Adapt bow with the plastic grip that will fit this riser series, but it felt kinda fat and the bare riser grip is just fine. Once I confirmed cam timing, I pencil marked the cams at the cable crossings so I can check cam timing at brace, and the cam timing has remained stable. My Bear Resurgence/Alaskan is very accurate and pleasurable to shoot. I highly recommend it.

    Pulled my Alaskan out of the box. Checked spec on A to A and brace. Right on from the factory. Set poundage. Timed cams, they were slightly off and needed one twist. Put on a whisker biscuit and shot a dozen arrows to settle the string a bit. Switched to a Vapor Trail Pro VX. First shot was point high/tail low. Moved the nocking point up a hair. Bullet hole. Zero side to side. With a 400 spine it shot bullet holes with 100, 125, and 150 grain points. One of the easiest bows to tune I have had as of late. Not bad for a $499 bow, considering I have had much more challenging times tuning the big flagships in some cases. Also worth noting, the peep settled in the first couple shots and there is now zero peep rotation. Bear strings are better than Mathews and Bowtech for sure, and at least as good as Hoyt and Prime. It looks to me like Bear might be thinking of dropping the Alaskan from their lineup soon, get one now if you want an extremely high value bow.

    @@seansoutdoors Thank you for the reply. I noticed that one could swap spacers on the axles to move the cam, and of course with the split yoke there is a lot of adjustment there too. The grip is very narrow for sure. I am shooting well off the riser, but I do have the BearPaw grip that I might try, but it is MUCH thicker than the riser. Is Bear going to continue the Alaskan? It seems really hard to find right now and I am wondering if they are done producing it? Thank you.

    I have no idea if they are planning to continue it. Most bows area only around a year or two and then they change the name or something because people always want the latest and greatest thing, so companies make subtle changes to their stuff to try to appeal to the audience of buyrs.

    Are you able to mount a back stabilizer bar on this, or any other Bear Archery bow, that isn't coming off the front???

  • @seansoutdoors

    @seansoutdoors

    The hole for the stabilizer runs all the way through and out the back of the riser so something could be screwed into the back of the riser directly at the bottom of the grip.

    All you need to do is loosen the screws that hold on the draw module and then slide the draw module to the correct setting for the desired draw length and then put the screws back in. You then need to move the draw stop pegs to the corresponding locations for that draw length. God bless you

    I have an opportunity to buy a Bear Alaskan or a used Matthews Triax from my local shop. I've watched all your videos on this series and have heard some say that these new budget bows might be better than older flagships. Which one would you recommend? I really appreciate your input.

    The Alaskan has a smoother draw cycle. The Dragon 10 has movable draw stop pegs which gives you a lot more versatility in tuning and getting perfect nock travel coming off the bow, so it really depends on what is more importantly to you.

    It would help me more if you simplified testing to just 30" draw and 70 lbs and 29" draw and 60 lbs. When you report speeds at settings such as 31.5" and 70.5 lbs it is not an apples-to-apples comparison with other bows.

  • @seansoutdoors

    @seansoutdoors

    Жыл бұрын

    You will find that if you buy another bow it will usually not be exactly 70 pounds and won't be exactly the draw length it is rated at or expected to be. In other words this is a real world example of an out of the box bow. You will also find that almost never will you get a bow that meets the manufacturer's predicted speeds.
