Awesome vid as always Roger. A couple of things I noticed. One: when you thread the salted worm on you seem to bury the hook tip which is always a big no no. Two: you should move into the modern age and switch to circle hooks. No need to strike, a lot less gut hooks and a much higher hook up rate than conventional J hooks.

Hi Roger. Inspirational video just like all other ones. Brings back memories of how my dad taught me to fish when I was a lad. Just goes to show you, you don't need all of the newfangled gear to catch a decent fish. Maybe you can come over to WA sometime to try out our great fishing locations.

Great video Roger! I'm from SA and since you and David Sheldon taught me how to catch and preserve worms , that's the only bait I use unless I'm chasing bigger fish like sharks and Jewies. I always tell people "if you fishing with beach worms and not getting bites, it cuz there ain't no fish there". Bloody legend mate keep at King!!

@@666Havers I won't lie mate, right now it's terrible. Some small ones around but I haven't caught a trophy (over a meter) in years. I usually get them in the port river and occasionally in westlakes and also in the onkaparringa. Sadly all I have caught have been between 30 to 63 cm from westlakes and the port river. Haven't gotten any out of the Onka well over a year. I heard of some good ones around though, Moana Beach apparently

I'm wondering just how important bait is? Fishing on weekend using only frozen prawn (all I could get because im too lazy to collect my own). Got a 60cm+ flattie and another that just hammered me and could not land on light gear - 6kg line, but lots of frustrated fun 😅. Had to re-rig 3 times so my question is, is it worth having rigs pre prepared? I normally don't due to storage. Nobody needs hooks, sinkers and line rolling around the tackle box.

Great vid mate- luv ya work. Question- I’ve been fishing Bengello beach during the week for good results using your ‘mixed grill’ set up. But I can’t stop getting the upper leader getting all twisted with the main line after a few casts- drives me insane and time consuming- how does yours never twist up? I use alvey reels - do they create twist?

  • @RogerOsborneFishing

Hi Daniel, I use a 3 way swivel for the upper leader. Keep the leader fairly short, say 20cm. Mine only occasionally get twisted around the main line

The mere fact that I have replied to this one should be enough for any reasonable person to decide what is right.
