This is gold! I have to agree 100% on every point. As I look back to my first job after my MBA, and now that I listen to you, I realize I kind of embodied these principles. Obviously nobody told me to do like this, but then I always made sure I was trying to be in my manager and senior's shoes. 90% of my team was unhappy with my manager, and another 4 associate PMs. Since our work entailed getting reviewed by either Manager or APMs, most of the people had issues with how different the opinion and feedbacks were from manager to manager. They kept comparing one with another. But, always, my take was to be ultra flexible, open minded, and take each manager's feedback on its own, because these are different people with different skill level, and objective/subjective opinions. And, at the end of it, I always focused on learning. Obviously, if I had a different take, I would bring it up after my own research based on their feedback. Ultimately, my learning outshined other's and this led me to be successful in my role. These were the best 2.5 years of my career of 7 years.

Thank you for sharing this Ankur! Could you in future maybe give your opinion on points on how to judge if it's better for one to start their own business or to stick with increasing investments on a yearly basis into a diversified portfolio (which includes investing in businesses) by increasing one's income in a satisfactory job. I am asking since I heard from some that business is not necessarily suitable for everyone and so not everyone should try it. Thanks again!

Just to add on top of this, very important. COMMUNICATION - Communicate effiiciently and effectively. Each task or favor should either be documented (on mails) , or conveyed to other person through chat/talk effectively. Example sometimes people tell that manager didn't approved my leave after I applied on the portal. Why can't we ask them directly that can u approve the leave.

Hi Ankur, Thank you for the wonderful tips! I find myself falling into most of the categories but I have a question though to understand your perspective. While letting go of credit and trying to be indispensable by working honestly is good, unfortunately it makes people treat you like a doormat, one tends to get piled on with work just because you are efficient. How would you deal with such a situation?

I think eventually once you become great at your job, you can train others on the same, and delegate such work. This will ensure you don't get piled up with more work.
