Granted this interview is not recent so it's of course possible my hopes that you remain the same but also experienced growth in a way that would benefit my selfish ideal of you is, obviously, unrealistic. (And not actually something that I truly want for anyone. I want for anyone to grow into what's best for them.) One of those people who I have enjoyed working with, not working for, because the methodology is basically "see what works" and "park by feel" abandonment of reason. As he points out, it's the dilemma of inexperience, and because the shift from Apprenticeship to Career is inevitable, in reaction to the availability of qualified persons easily outsourced, eventually the pendulum swings back and the tenacious and curious self-teaching person "falls into place". Although all the lottery winners probably say it was the wisdom of their own efforts?

Not all jobs have entirely static roles to be filled though. I could see how in the advertising industry, different clients with different projects means less of a need for hyper specific and rigid job titles. A great employee with a specific set of skills who is adaptable to different scenarios could be hired and be assigned to projects as and when needed.

Ingenuity and laziness go hand in hand....was it jut me or was Sutherland here effectively saying 'I am clever and that is the reason I do not do any exercise. The interview would have been better if she had asked some difficult questions, for example 1) how often do Ogilvy move people around rather than fire them if they are not any good. Also, it was not just a few people who thought the Pepsi add was bad, it was pretty much universally condemned. So here is something we should all aim to be good....being honest with ourselves

NO NO NO!!! NO CHEESE ON ANY SEAFOOD!!! THAT'S BLASPHEMOUS!!! If your seafood improves with cheese, then there is something wrong with the quality of your seafood in the first place

Maybe depends where you’re from, but there are a number of decent sandwiches focused on something like baby shrimp and cheddar in them and they taste pretty good.

@@carina9302 I'm not being mean - I meant it in a friendly, teasing manner. You color grade in your editing software. I realize you didn't know, but you were using a log profile on your camera - which is totally fine, it just needs a color grade in post production. Loved the interview tho, sister.🔥

4:56 Wouldn't journalists be less keen on reporting scandal/outrage if it's unfavourable reporting of subject if they happened to be their advertiser? conflict of interest, perhaps? My surmise: mad people with extreme opinions weren't difficult to find, but were easy to omit as they were the gate-keepers. Social media is leveling the playing feel. I would be cautious looking through such a tinted rose glasses.

Why is it okay for Ogilvy to take money from clients to make their products famous, make people want it and get them to spend money on it (making an opinion that did not exist earlier, mainstream) but not okay for twitter users to get together and hashtag something into getting attention to something they did not agree with (Pepsi) ? Why is Ogilvy amplifying a voice okay but others doing it not okay? Powerful have voiced opinions and screamed loudest to make their opinions the truth, but the poor never had that opportunity. The social media is giving users that same power. Some are going to misuse it, just the like the rich have misused advertising. You are not different from what the twitter and other social media armies do, amplify an opinion to make it the truth. Doesn't matter what the fact is.
