Your work-around of putting the 2x4s up the middle looks pretty good.

Thanks. It wasn't planned, but I think it worked out alright.

The first screw up was at 1:30 using deck screws in the joist hangers. Those will rust out & shear off. You used the proper structural nails through the toe nail holes, why not through the rim joist holes? Still it's a really cool build and I hope it holds up for you. Happy BBQing!

Thanks for the comment. Good callout. I’ve always used decking screws for the joist hangers. But that doesn’t mean it is correct. Always to what is right. Not what I do. Thanks for watching.

You could have used white antique paint to give all of the boards a whitewash look.

Deck is looking good. I like the center divider, it gives it a trimmed out look. In the next video are you going to come back and flush up the deck boards or leave them as is? Might be tricky to flush them given the posts will be in the way for a few cuts but a circular saw and a chalk line would take care of most of them and a hand saw for the rest.

I do want to clean it up a bit. I still haven't. I couldn't find my chalk line. Once I find it, I'll get it cleaned up. Hopefully it will all be accessible with the circular saw. But, if not, I may have to use a hand saw on some of it. Thanks for watching.

Contractor here. Lag screws are not meant to be load bearing. That should've been carriage bolts on that application. Please if you are reading this don't use lags for this.
