BBQ iT ROAD TRIP - COZY CORNER BBQ | MEMPHIS, TN

Cozy Corner has been a must-stop spot for years. So I finally made it in just before the airport and had some amazing food!!
Now, BBQ iT has been on the road off and on for a year now. I've spent many days in Memphis, competing in Memphis in May, eating at popular bbq joints, and working on a blues documentary with my producing partner in BBQ iT, Ted Reed. So, we have a double mission on a lot of our trips down to the Delta. I must say, Cozy Corner lives up to their reputation, and then some. We didn't have time to taste it all, or even get there during the mad rush. We were way too late to see folks manning the pits or slangin' meats like crazy, but we still had a great visit.
Cozy Corner has a very large, clean, and simple dining area. Missing are the typical rustic and worn our nick-nacks, license plates, old guitars, all kind of pigs, and thankfully so. This place is about it's the product, and that's it! Simple, BBQ, done right. They use CHARCOAL ONLY, and NO WOOD AT ALL! Which really explained the flavor I was trying to describe, "Backyard BBQ" done right! I couldn't quite place the smoke flavor, and come to find out, they don't use wood of any kind. Just Royal Oak charcoal, that's it folks! No wrap, just bbq till the're ready. And I loved it! Tune in to more BBQ iT on the road! With so much to try and taste, like their famous Cornish Hens, the pulled pork, and brisket, we'll be back for more, and you can bank on that.
COZY CORNER - ON OF MEMPHIS'S BEST BBQ JOINTS, PERIOD!

Cozy Corner and pines were my favourite when I did a Memphis rib tour about 10 years ago. At the Crossroads there was a little white shack that had a rib tips swimming in a thin vinegar sauce with no tomato in a styrofoam cup that reminded me more of asian style sauces than anything I had had before, truly unique and delicious. Paines reminded me more of Montreal Smoked meat than what you think of when you talk about Memphis style ribs, a whole smallish rack with a real simple dry rub that resembled Schwartz' meat spice, which Montreal Seasoning is based on, just better and more bold. peppery and not too salty, with the mild smoke making all the flavour.

Yeah, that place at the Crossroads, it's called Abe's, has disappointed me several times. So I passed on showing the video.

@@BBQiT It wasn't Abe's, we didn't go there for BBQ but were driving past the Crossroads when we saw this tiny shack, just a little kitchen selling BBQ out of the window, you couldn't go inside. We were already stuffed from lunch inn Memphis but we got a cup of these rib tips and they were unique and delicious. We were warned off Abe's by people we met in Memphis, life is too short for lousy BBQ!

We took your advice and went to cozy corner today. I have lived in Memphis off and on for years and didn't know about this place. The ribs were fantastic but the BBQ spaghetti was sadly lacking. Thanks for the advice.

Ha! That's amazing! I didn't really care for the bbq spaghetti either, but I just played nice since it wasn't that big of a dish.

Craig, it would be instructive if you could try to describe some of the spices in the rub and sauce. It is delightful to see your reaction when you taste the food, and mad props to Sean for the outro. He looked and sounded like a natural pro!

Yeah, I agree. I totally failed on describing the food correctly. That's why I dropped the little graphic to explain the sauce. I gotta step it up!!
