Amazing ...My Dad was a gunner on these during WW2. Saw this do a fly over at the Royal Wedding about 11 years ago..

Very moving sight, it's hard to imagine that the brave young men that flew them weren't even old enough to hold a driving licence, truly the best of a generation.

Never tire of watching and listening to those merlin engines. Luckily I live in Hamilton Canada and see "our" Lanc now and again when she flies. I am hoping to win a big draw prize to buy a ride in her. It's on my bucket list ! I was also lucky to be visiting relatives in the UK when both Lancs were flying around. THAT will never happen again as they are too precious to risk that kind of flight again. Hope the Brits get the other Lanc flying that is being restored in Lincolnshire. That one is privately owned so financing is very difficult to come by. My flying (tourism) is over but I can drive to the museum to see our Lanc now and then.

I can only imagine what it would have been like to see more than one Lancaster in the sky at the same time. Good luck in the competition to fly in the Lancaster. I think that would be an absolutely incredible experience to have.

She is beautiful. And to think she was almost lost in a fire a few years ago. had the chance to see her fly at the Hamilton airshow. Yes, those Merlins are awesome.

Just beautiful. The Lancaster was a true beauty of an aircraft, and at the same time she was grimly functional. She did her job well. Thanks for sharing.

Incomparable. Before Canadian 'Vera' came over here, I was in Canada just 2 months before her visit, and went to the Museum to see her. I stood under her huge open Bomb doors, and chatted to her crew; a really helpful cheery bunch of Guys. I don't suppose we will see her here again, not in my lifetime anyway.

Thanks for watching and sharing your memories. Yes - the Lancaster is certainly a special aircraft. We are lucky to have it in at Southend two or three times a year as it stays here when performing at nearby airshows. It certainly draws a good crowd whenever it comes in.

Saw this beautiful plane over my garden while departing the airport for its return flight back to home base. I must say what a beautiful sound and sight and exciting seeing this ww2 bomber

Wow. Used to pass a Lancaster in our local museum (Museum of Transport and Technology in west Auckland, NZ) every day going to school and work, it was a truly beautiful aircraft - more so than the Spitfire which was in the War Memorial museum in central Auckland - and I always wondered what they looked like in flight. Thank you for this video, it truly brings the aircraft to life (and is much better than the ones you see in various war-time films) and it is beautiful to watch and hear.

I was looking at the MOTAT website and I believe that the Lancaster in the museum was presented by the French government as a memorial to the brave New Zealanders who served in Bomber Command during the second world war. I agree with you that it is a beautiful aircraft to watch and hear.

@@georgesjourneys9007 Thank you for piece of information, I don't remember ever having seen anything to say where it came from, although as kids we probably weren't too interested either to be fair. And the War Memorial museum has a spitfire (they must have brought it in in small pieces, it's several floors up and dwarfs the room) which is also beautiful. Compared to modern aircraft they are just so beautiful and sleek and dangerous looking (but then the older cars are also much more individual than modern ones are) while nowadays they are all lumpy looking without giving that impression of being simply dangerous purely because they are so sleek and lethal looking (they sound much better as well with that deep rumble from the engines).

Best airport to fly in and out of. I can park my truck less than 50 yards from the plane. Got lucky last flight parked right in front of the terminal. Here in Kalamazoo we get frequent B-17's and 24 liberators. They buzz my house occasionally knocking pictures off the wall.

Thanks for watching. Yes - Southend is a very easy airport to get through and the security lines are never too long as the airport is not that busy. I can imagine the B-17s and 24s knocking the pictures off the walls!

What a sight to see a real classic of the sky ,,why they can’t make these planes for nostalgia is beyond me ,,there’s only a very few left it would be great for the next generation to see what they have missed ,,who of my generation wouldn’t give there right arm to go fly in these I’m 62 I know I would ,,A for Apple are you there you can begin your run now

Terrythekittie.....No, they were named after British towns or cities- i.e. Stirling, Halifax, Manchester Lancaster Bristol, York, Lincoln etc. by the various manufacturers and possibly the air ministry. Incidentally, you may like to know that only earlier this week in September 2022 there took place the losing ceremony at RAF Scampton 3 miles north of Lincoln. This was the base where the Dambusters of 617 sqdn flew to attack the German dams in May 1943. The red arrows raf display team will remain here until later this year before moving 4 or 5 miles away across the city to another WW2 airfield which is still very active at RAFWaddington. If tou put either of those two names into Google you should see lots of detail. Also, the Dambusters Inn pub website may be of interest, though it was not there in the war but appeared only sometime towards the end of the 20th century. Good hunting and best wishes from Lincoln UK.

Great bomber, ugliest airplane of World War ii. Although every Brit will stand up and say it's the second most beautiful aircraft ever built next to the Spitfire and we're Brits and we'll just say ridiculous things like this.
