I disagree..she's a terrible interviewer. She misunderstands the meaning of the term Hard Talk. It means you examine deeply the interviewee's positions, internal contradictions and all. You make them face their internal logical contradictions and then account for them. It's not to talk over your interviewee. The interviewer is there to challenge NOT to be rude or to annoy. She always does BOTH those things. They should change the name of the program to suit her. They should call it 'Annoying Talk'. The problem she and her immediate predecessor had is that it requires real intelligence to fully interrogate someone's views. Asking good questions within a conversation even with preparation is a difficult business. Not everyone can do it. You have to REALLY understand the other person's point of view to question them on it AND you have to be quick witted and mentally flexible in order to flow and keep up with the twists and turns of a conversation. Not everyone can do this...Ms Bardawi certainly can't.

Love Trevor Noah🇿🇦 Really didn't like how she interviewed him, but he nailed it!

“I’m that color and I wouldn’t say that!” You are not Trevor Noah, you grew up in Britain from the age of two, he was born and raised in South Africa during a time when his existence was actually technically legal, he speaks openly about how this affected him and also how his mother handled it was good humour and his family loves to make jokes and that is how they connect. You have two very different lives and the contexts of those lives impact your views and you ability to handle humor. Trevor Noah acknowledges and raises awareness of racial issues through humour and listens to many different stories while telling his own in a way that is consumable for a broader audience meanwhile you attack those who you view have a lesser opinion or have had a different experience and relationship with their racial identity. Not every black person has had the same experiences especially when they live in different countries, like in Trevor Noah’s case where most of his community was also black people (mostly due to the separation of races in South Africa). Context is everything. Zeinab Badawi was so unprofessional this interview I was so frustrated throughout it because she just wanted to sit there and rant at him about how she thinks he is wrong and isn’t a good black person instead of letting him answer the questions she is meant to be asking and letting him explain. Dumb questions too might I add that are just geared to try to make Trevor Noah look bad. He took it in stride, I would have simply walked out and say “good day, you can rant to the camera now cause that all you wanted to do anyways”

She is someone who grew up in racism compared to trevor noah who grew up in africa ..... Racism must have been very serious issue for her since she grew up in the motherland of racism. When Trevor was performing in South Africa he made many “racial” jokes. He took us ALL, black, white, green, yellow, apart. He was never offensive but extremely funny the way he joked about our characteristics. Everyone laughed and if we can’t laugh at ourselves then the world is becoming a very sad place. Well done Mr Noah. You are a great comedian and handled this interview with skill and decorum.

Exactly! There is that Joke he tells about how Americans called that wild beast with white and black stripes a "Ziibra" and not "Zebra". He goes on to say, it's almost the same construct when one say "Debrah" and not "Dibrah". Now my favorite is when he concludes "plus you can't name them cause you don't have them". The whole crowd caught fire 😂😂😂😂😂 Though I have not been to the US or Europe for that matter, can I assume they don't have Zebras 🤷‍♂🤷‍♂🤷‍♂. Definitely not! but we (Both Africans and Americans) understood the context. Actually he said the last phrase with a smile and quite a low tone. That's how much we love comedy.

I was in utter disbelief with how hard this interviewer was trying to take Trevor Noah down. She had a very strong group of opinions about every aspect of a comedians role. I found it frustrating how she kept cutting him off. She could have said ' I don't like what you do' and been much more honest.

@@vaselinetub I do think that we shall not agree on this but yes, she really touched sensitive points. You see, when comedians are usually aaked to account for some of their actuins and things that they say, their usual answers is: "it is just comedy". People need to take on their responsibilities. I do like Trevor Noah and most of his jokes. However, he needs to be held responsible for what he says. This is especially why I like the actuon of the lady - not giving him the opportunity to talk his way out of what hewas asked.

From that perspective I can agree with you. But my problem is the way she sees her own blackness. Her line of questions tells that she sees her blackness as disease. And that's the problem with many anti racists (black or white). They treat blackness like a by-default illness. Like an anomaly that begs for sympathy and even pity. That's why they feel offended by the slightest racial joke. And that's why I think she was totally unqualified to interview Trevor Noah.

No amount of British accent could cover up the idiocy of this malicious interviewer.

What myself and most of the commenters here are taking issue with is the hostile manner with which she conducted her interview and the contrasting, patient, graceful and intelligent manner in which Trevor responded. This is exactly what I thought, it's very easy to think that a standup comedian will just find something that makes people cackle and not think deeply about it's consequences because that's exactly how a lot of them actually are but the way he(very calmly and poised) differentiated between his chocolate joke and the leaking chocolate joke shows you just how seriously he takes his craft.

Difference does not refer to colour between but it is about our behaviour, customs and rituals. Noticing differences isn't something bad. Thank you, Trevor!

With all due respect, every one is different. Just because both Trevor and other dude have same skin color doesn't mean they have to think the same way. All white black, brown must behave and think the same by your logic then. Secondly, wait and hear the answers for your hard hitting questions. You can't prepare your questions and try to make your guests uncomfortable but not have the respect to hear their reason and answers.

I am always so impressed by Trevor Noah. His ability to remain calm, analyze, understand, and reason just blows me away.

Trevor level of patience during this conversation is what I aspire for.

Trevor Noah truly advocated for his culture, childhood, and work. He has an incredible amount of patience and knowledge, especially throughout this interview.

She was brutal.. there is no listening to anything he is saying. Just pushing through the conversation to make a point. The level of patience and respect given by Trevor here is truly impressive. He had every right to walk out of the interview.

Lenny Henry is old enough to be Trevors dad, so his life experiences as an afrocarribean man would be very different to Trevors as a biracial man raised in South Africa.

The woman probably thought Trevor would be a walkover. Trevor was like "Not Today". You school her Trevor Noah! We're behind you

Is this lady interviewing Trevor Noah, or herself? To me, she seems more interested in getting her own viewpoints out, than to hear Trevor's.

Trevor Noah grew up in a mixed race family during apartheid South Africa. I think he understands racism pretty well. What makes his comedy special is how he uses that experience to break down barriers and encourage people to connect with each other across racial 'boundaries', through the medium of shared laughter. It's because he "goes there" that we're able to bring to light these deep, difficult and painful issues in a slightly more accessible (if not always comfortable) way. I think he should be celebrated for this, not vilified by a low-grade reporter looking to score cheap talking points. (full disclosure: proud South African here!)

What I love is when she’s says let’s look at it in another way 😂 Trevor knows what he is doing and has put into care what he is saying because he is aware of his influence and truly this woman was turning what he is saying into a whole different meaning and trying to talk over him. Just because your voice is louder does not mean you are right. And props to Trevor for holding it down!

Trevor Noah raises the bar everytime I watch him. Well done Trevor! You will always be my favorite bar of milk chocolate 😉

I just wish that interviewer read this...shame on her with all that negative energy.

Zeinab was needlessly combative and Trevor's critical reasoning abilities significantly overshadowed her half-baked arguments.

You can tell that Trevor was pissed just well composed

Scrutinize: To examine or inspect closely and thoroughly. Now when you have a person is incapable of listening with an agenda doing the scrutinizing...this is what it looks like. Very hard to watch. Trevor's IQ and Ego truly shines here are as he does not react to her nonsense.

Trevor the depth of your thinking guided the interviewer to become more thoughtful and it became an actual conversation in the end. She wanted to frame the issue in easy boxes for media/audience consumption. You did not allow this.

He is so much smarter than this journalist.. Educate the masses Trevor.

I love the way Trevor attempts to mask his "are you serious?" Expression. 🤣

Trevoh is so intelligent and the way he responds verify his intellect, the interviewer came prepared to take him down but the guy is well informed. I missed this episode

I disagree. I think she was on point with her assessment and questions. She's an educated woman and certainly older than Trevor with life experiences too I suppose. She was asking questions with concerns I have and are curious about. I think he handled himself well. He brought something she could probably understand to the conversation and I'm hoping he left with a better understanding of the issues as well. I loved the interview. 😊 Is there a continuation of it on another clip somewhere?

Wow, she's so confrontational, but he's so cool and collected, she comes off as a terrible interviewer and he came out as the cool and clever guy that he is.

I wonder what happened there 😀 I wanted to say that I agree with you completely! Even I always thought that word chocolate is use to describe that other person is sexy or good looking. In fact, here we had a famous celebrity who was called chocolate for same reasons. Also, I think at the end of day no American like the fact that a non-American comes and get so much fame!
