BBC2 Closedown
Ойын-сауық
In the 1970s BBC2 always seemed to have a marked disinclination to close down. Poems, announcements, musical compilations and on occasion what appeared to be the holiday snaps of the presentation people all delayed the moment of departure. This is a typical example - curiously unsettling if not downright depressing. The slides feel more like something that would lead in to Play School.
UPDATE: The mobile featured in the slides was made by home toy maker Maureen Roffey, who featured in the BBC series "Making Toys". There's a feature about her in the 04/10/1975 edition of Radio Times.

Where I tread, I leave nothing but dust and darkness. I find that good.
Sutekh The Destroyer reads a creepy poem, followed by Progressive Rock music & weird Christmas decorations?
These poems are beautiful. There's a Ted Hughes one showcased on TV Ark.
If I were to think were closing down BBC 2 would be John Trevor.
The only date I can find for this is Thursday 17th March 1977 (it was repeated on Monday 11th February 1980 but that's after this BBC2 ident had disappeared). Closedown is scheduled for ten minutes earlier than shown on the clock here, but there was a live debate on the forthcoming Budget which could easily have overrun. Sadly this was also the week Bula and Lanzarote were both killed at Cheltenham, the sort of thing that makes me feel guilty about ever enjoying racing sometimes.

That was the day I was born.
Those slides look like they were made by the Blue Peter crew.
That closedown looked more like an interval for ITV Schools.
Those were the days
Anyone know what the tune is? Some library / trade test tape / KPM / Ceefax type thing...?

Something by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, sounds like a Roger Limb composition, it's his style.
You pit your puny will against mine? ...Abase yourself before me, you groveling insect!
Good.
I'm glad I was too young to witness the closedown back then!
Robin Whitting doing the announcing duties I think.
Anyone got the source to the music that's used at the end?
It's not a voice I recognise closing BBC 2.
