Wow 🤩 what a magnificent find! Wish I was old enough to remember this first time around. Classic era of broadcasting.

We've got to see the Breakfast Time clock during the Olympic Breakfast Time slide, aswell as a "will follow at 4.30am Ceefax page". They presumably kept the transmitters on during Olympic nights at the gap gets filled by Olympic Ceefax AM (that at that time still had the "continuously changing second page number").

Along with BBC1 balloon closedowns, I’ve always wanted to find a BBC1 84 Olympics closedown! I don’t know if they’ll have kept the 405 line transmitters on air through the CEEFAX pages, I would imagine not because they were doing literally everything they could to keep the old kit going until January 85.

Further proof if you needed it that Richard Straker kept his closedown sign offs to the bare minimum, but at 4:10am I guess that can be forgiven.

I wonder then why they played the National Anthem as usual I know, when in fact they were then going to show Ceefax in vision until I guess when programs then started so too of course? I know it was different at the time then of course, but it does seem rather odd though somewhat too?

As it was a Saturday night into Sunday morning and I was 14 my parents allowed me to stay up until close down this was a great Olympics just a shame there was a boycott from Russians etc

Interesting that Ceefax AM is accompanied by the first three tracks from the Ellipse music tape in this video.
