PLEASE NOTE - 0:36 to 1:20 has had it's original audio replaced Skip to 1:20 to bypass replaced audio Due to a copyright claim, I've had to replace the music for 45 seconds of the video. Because the replacing system KZread offers is incredibly basic, it overlays any audio, not just music. So my usual opening 'Hello and welcome...' etc, had to go. This was the only way in which I could keep the video up and fully visible without completely deleting and re-uploading, which was the last thing I wanted to do. Hope you all understand. Trivia: The blue, red and green streaks on the 1991 BBC logo represent the three other areas of the UK the BBC serves. Blue represents Scotland Red represents Wales and Green represents Northern Ireland.

The final one works really well in 4K. It harks back to the pre-war era of BBC, and feels inspired by that Crystal Palace vibe you get in "The Idiot's Lantern".

1988 - 1991, is legitimately a huge part of my childhood. Grew up with the VHS "All Change at Evercreech Junction", and I'd watch it constantly. This opened it. Some of my earliest media memories.

I also recall seeing on KZread a rare version of the 1991-1997 BBC Video ident that was only seen on the 1995 VHS release of Doctor Who - The Five Doctors, which involved the logo being abducted at the end of the ident?

Same here, I remember this logo on my Postman Pat and Fireman Sam VHS tapes as a kid and it scared me with it's scary Spider In The Bath-esc music that played in the background.

The BBC Video star logo from the 80s is without a doubt my favourite VHS logo ever! Not just because of the colourful animation but the music is just genius! I too grew up with the music at 3:47, I wasn't aware until very later on in life that there were earlier versions of that logo with different music.

I grew up in the very late era of the 1997 - 2009 ident and sometimes seen the one earlier. What a throwback! Amazing video!

5:49 thank god I’m not the only one who gets scared when this video intro comes on when I was watching Pingu. Honestly the logo itself really gave me the willies when i hear its eerie sound and how the font and shapes look slanted. Especially when i also see it’s black and white variant.

3:16 I like this version. It makes you feel like you are going off on an adventure. Well suited for Doctor Who: Revenge of the Cybermen. Much nicer than 3:45.

I remember seeing all the vhs logos. 1980 on grange hill 2, 1988 on postman pat and one on 1 documentary, 1991 on my bbc children compilation and the bbc coloured ident from various titles. Great ident review adam martyn.

I have a lot of nostalgia for the 2009-2017 variant. Not primiarily from DVDs, though. In countries where BBC content was syndicated, this ident would be used after the program's credits as a kind of stinger letting you know that you just watched a BBC program or film. In Australia, where I'm from and grew up, our national broadcaster, the ABC would import some content from the BBC, but especially on it's children-early teen channel, ABC3 (it's not like BBC Three despite the name, it was more like CBBC/CITV) a significant amount of it's content, maybe even most of it was from CBBC, (a lot of stuff was from Canada too, Total Drama, 6Teen, Stoked, Grojband, She-Zow to name a few.) this ident particularly reminds me of Strange Hill High, Horrible Histories and Operation Ouch. Great memories of mine. Unfortunately it was rebranded around 2016 and a lot of the good shows I remember were axed. Can't really tell you if the new shows were actually worse or if I was just growing out of the target audience around the time, sadly the ABC doesn't really have a BBC Three equivalent for teens-young adults, unless you count ABC2 (now called ABC TVPlus and soon to be renamed ABC Enterainment) but it's more of a general comedy channel and less of a young adult focused channel.

It now has an overhaul for 2021! It’s rebranded as “BBC Studios Home Entertainment”. And the ident is very short.

Actually, if we're now on to VHS logos, another favourite of mine is 'The Video Collection' idents, maybe you could review those sometime.

Oh fuck yeah, my sister was terrified of the Video Collection ident; the VCI ident (same company IIR) had its own creepy vibe, but not as bad I'd say. Both iconic.

I was born in 2006, but I had vhs tapes, duing to 1990s born siblings and i remember these idents on fireman sam, noddy, wallace and gromit and teletubbies tapes.

You had a calm voice, especially when you mentioned 1991-1997 & you mentioned Video Scaries & didn't swear. Thank you

7:05 I remember this one from a Top Gear DVD that showed in 1 dvd Serieses 1 and 2 (or moments from it) , one Serieses 3, 4 and 5 (or bits of it)and the final one being the Winter Special from 2005 Also 7:59 I remember this one as well once again through Top Gear DVDs

I had a teletubbies VHS which used the 1997 theme and when I watched the Doctor Who 2000s Box Sets, the ident made me think of the VHS

getting ready to sit in front of my grandmas tv watching the classic episode of Death to the Daleks and this would come on 3:45, such a classic for me when growing up in 1999 loved it, and my god nostalgia for the 90s ones, god when I heard the 5:36 du du dun du du dun do du dooon it was just amazing and all the doctor who dvds would have this and this was just gold 7:00 and I know Ive gone on for doctor who stuff but the one from 2009 -17 sounds like the soundtrack from the five doctors at 8:02 when they land on the marsh ground in episode 1 when turlo paints a picture EDIT I believe I found what the song I was referring too is called the eye of orion from the five doctors

3:12 Actually, that one ran in-tandem with the "Marching Band" one. However, the "creepy-sounding synth" one is the updated version.

The 1991-1997 one is, for my money, the best by a country mile. And certainly authoritarian while making no bones about it!

There was another version used for a few years, with the logo made out of glass blocks. It is on KZread as Adelphoi: BBC identity. I'm pretty sure that was used on some DVDs and definitely digital releases.

Yep, that early 90s one scared the bejesus out of me as a kid. I had nightmares about that logo for 3-4 years and would run out of the room if that synth played on the TV. I'm just glad that they didn't use the same music on BBC1!

I know the 1990-1997 BBC Video ident was also used on BBC video games released around 1996 as well, albeit with the word Multimedia underneath?

The BBC ident from 91-97 didn't scare me, however the previous one did given the ominous music starting up.

I have a lot of Doctor Who and In the Night Garden... DVDs from when the 2009 logo was in use (which surprisingly came into use on my 6th birthday, October 5th 2009! I like both the 1997 and 2009 logos! It was like the BBC were thinking “OK Nathan, you’re 6 years old! Happy Birthday! Here’s a new logo!”)

You forgot to include the second ident on the Star videos that used to be on after the show, pretty much going backwards and ending as a dot if i remember.

The first one is very pretty to look at but the third music variation is, as you said, rather creepy, I certainly thought so as a small kid in the 80s. It's interesting how a few idents over the years have had music that scares kids. The Thames Television one scared some kids because it was so loud and blaring. The music for the second one with the globe is really nice and soothing. I never found the music for the third one scary, but then I was getting into adolescence by the time that one was introduced. Someone who was a small kid at the time may have found the music creepy. I actually thought it sounded sad, as if it was telling you that something good had come to an end. The fourth and fifth ones went back to being soothing. The fifth one I've actually never seen before, which makes me realise it's been a while since I bought any DVDs.

the 97-09 is on my copy of the The Incredible Adventures of Wallace and Gromit (That came before Loaf and Death

What DVDs is the 2017 ident on?, EDIT : I have several DVDs (and one Blu ray) with the 2017 ident on - The Best of EastEnders, Gavin and Stacey 2019 Xmas Special, Peter Kay’s Car Share and The First Team (from the creators of The Inbetweeners) DVDs and Fawlty Towers on Blu ray. At the I originally posted this comment, all my BBC DVDs then either had the 1997-2009 or 2009-2017 idents on them

As always, great Ident Review, this time of a home video division of the BBC (UK). This video proves that not only you do ident reviews of television companies, but also home video companies as well. My favourite ident from BBC Video is the 1980 one. The 1997 ident is also good, despite being simplistic, it's soothing and it has a nice sort of calm into it, like the "Water" ident from BBC2. Also, I had to agree with the final ident from 2017, despite even simplistic idents are good, the 2017 ident is _really_ disappointing, and it has the same level to the BBC One 'Oneness' idents from the same year. BBC Knowledge before closing down is similar in your opinion, but at least it has some creativity, at least in my opinion. And whilst the previous idents from BBC Video are great, especially the 1980 ident, the final ident is just a disappointing end and the weakest of BBC Video.

You'll be pleased to know that the boring 2017 ident's days are numbered - the BBC logo has changed recently. It's due on air in the UK next month, is already on Australia's BBC Kids and America's BBC Select. Presumably when BBC One changes, so will BBC Video.
