I was involved in the making of this documentary in Leeds, UK. It was made by BBC for open university as part of their studies of world religions. It was exciting.

Dalbir Singh Sagoo sir I find the subject of sikhi and how my grandparents functioned and evolved on arriving in this country, their faith must have been their strength in overcoming many difficulties. ...sadly my grandparents passed many yrs ago so these documentaries give me insight x

I think the same could be said for all Asians that came to Britain in the 50s onwards, including those from the West Indies. All of them were very hardworking and respectful.
interesting the people seem very liberal minded , a great record of Panjabi community in England .
Time when everyone went to the gurdwara and as a child it was so wonderful and fun🙏.
The shabhad at the beggining It gave me such a rush. So beautiful! Im truely in anand

Those were the days when we were deep rooted to the Sikhi.
I remember Baba Puran Singh Ji and Bhai Sahib Bhai Naurang Singh Ji very well. Such great people!
Awesome capture of the good old days, and all the challenges for Sikhs, and yet they managed to unite and progress :)

Seeing the gurdwara that busy is amazing. In the 70s, going to the gurdwara every Sunday was a ritual. These days, there are so many more gurdwaras, many of them almost empty. Busy life and selfishness has taken over now ... so many people I know only go to the gurdwara when there's a wedding or parth.

Yes!!! I knew many of the these people! My family came from India in 1976, I was only four years old. The Chapeltown Gurudwara was the only in Leeds at that time. So everyone knew everyone in Leeds, it had a real community feel. We lived just off Chapeltown Road on Reginald street, only 5 mins walk from the gurudwara. Not Only did we go every Sunday to the gurudwara, my siblings and I went throughout the week in the evenings too, to learn Punjabi. I spent most of my Childhood there. Many happy memories. I even got married in the Chapeltown gurudwara in 1996, but unfortunately it closed in 1997 and a new Gurudwara was built across the the road from the old one
piara Singh sembi one of my friends Dad from the next Street
My baba ji was a president ( pardhan ) of b'ham gurdwara in 90s.
Sikh community is such a beautiful and peaceful community 💚
I remember in the 70s it was way different from what is now

WE have come a long way - My parents come from Punjab to London in 1957 - I grow as child in the 60xs and we worked hard to put food on the family table and still giving back to the larger British community. Grow up in the mid 60,s my English friends older cousin decided to marry a Scott's lad... In his family, as I recall were horrified she would marry a Scott's... I at that time could not understand... slowly understand and if any one discriminated against me - I just took it that English discriminated against all Scott, Irish, and Sikhs. I often now laugh about it with my Friend and his family.

Are some Sikhs rich? I already know that some Sikhs are poor.
@mj897
8 жыл бұрын
Sikhs are overall wealthy in Punjab, in the uk they are second to the Jewish community in terms of wealth, and the most generous in terms of donations. Wealth is nothing to be proud of but it allows us to give to charity and give choices to children and educate our selves. Langar is not free. But as religious life starts to reduce in influence of everyday life many sikhs are very vain and flaunt there wealth with cars and drink and many other show off things. Many poor people are therefore ashamed of the lack of success and turn to crime and drugs. Gurbani tell us that to work hard and create wealth is important but humbleness must go with it. Wjkk wjkf

Their so grounded and always look for a simple and just answer to everything. True ambassador of your religion. ❤️🙏🏻🤲🏼
