BBC RADIO LEICESTER - Jack the Ripper and Abraham Lincoln - interview with Tony McMahon

Ойын-сауық

On Tuesday May 28, 2024, TV historian Tony McMahon was interviewed on BBC Radio Leicester by regular presenter Summaya Mughal discussing his new book: Jack the Ripper and Abraham Lincoln - published by Troubador. It's an amazing story revealing how an Irish American doctor called Francis Tumblety was arrested over two of the greatest crimes of the 19th century. He was imprisoned as a suspected conspirator in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln in 1865 and then arrested 25 years later when Scotland Yard became convinced he was Jack the Ripper. In between those crimes was a stormy life with plenty of other brushes with the law. Even more fascinating - he was an openly gay man and his homosexuality is very much part of the story.

You forgot to mention that Francis was also homosexual. I once spoke to the originator of this theory, Stuart Evans, as well as one of Francis’s ancestors. Fascinating character, but no conclusive evidence proving he was Jack.
