6:36 - 7:18 it's not surprising that there was uproar when they tried to modernise a classic theme tune like this one and was subsequently changed back after only a matter of weeks

There is another theme for 1971 composed by the same person who composed the 'Match of the Day' theme, not included here, it's available by searching as it was specially played as an intro to an anniversary 'Football Focus' when that programme spun out on its own after 'Grandstand' was taken off the air

You can tell when the computer NLE started being used to edit the clips for sequences. So much tighter and lots more interesting and fun edits. (Mid 90s on)

The clock was supposed indicate that the following programme was actually live. I.e. the news, Blue Peter etc. The advent of satellite TV etc where the signal travelled a greater distance and caused a delay rendered clocks a waste of time. It doesn’t make a lot of sense radio using the time signal still when it can be up to 18secs adrift.

What’s the difference between the 1975 and 1992 themes? All I can tell is that the 1992 version sounds a bit cleaned and restored and in stereo.
