Using the animation cancel version of dodge offset is a great way to reposition yourself while building up to a wicked weave. There's also panther offset. Accessories are also amazing. The ones that drain your magic also present an extremely high skill ceiling as they drain your magic so quickly you need to activate them just before fighting and keep the fight going to maintain the magic gauge; Oh and you can also dodge out of the accessory's activation to minimise the cast time which is absolutely necessary,

I picked up Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 for Switch. I loved Bayonetta so much but I'm having a hard time loving the sequel as much. Something feels off. Kinda like when I played Viewtiful Joe 2. I should definitely return to both games. Anyway, I thought this video was very well done. Also, don't Hannigan (RE4) and Otacon both wear glasses? I know they aren't main characters but I don't recall seeing them on your list.

I adore Bayonetta, it’s such a fun game and I heavily recommend it to anyone who loves a game that lets you kick butt and look way too stylish while doing so. And while it is pretty strict with fights it’s still fair, except for one case that made me put down the game during my second playthrough. Spoilers for the final boss. During the Jubileus battle there’s a part where you have to jump across from platforms with a hazard just below them, maybe lava? Projectiles (possibly ice chunks? It’s kind of hard to tell in such a frantic situation) are raining from the sky. I’m doing pretty well, thinking I might even get gold for this fight. I jump from one platform to another, then a projectile hits me and I get stunned and fall into the hazard. Bayonetta is stunned for a bit, the hazardous floor isn’t helping, then she gets up and right before I regain control another projectile hits me. Over. And over again. I went through like six revives just trying to mash the button at the right time to get her out of the loop. By the time I finally got a game over I look at my brother and am like “I’ve beaten this game before, she’s almost beaten, I’m counting this as a win.” Then put in Bayonetta 2 because I didn’t want to redo a fight that I didn’t really enjoy all that much since I was never a huge fan of any of the big battles. One thing I will reccomend for anyone interested in playing it is don’t go straight from Metal Gear Rising to this or vice versa. Muscle memory is not your friend.

Thank you for the vid. A real button mashing game for me, but I had a blast when playing it on xbox 360. Still haven't bought the pc version, but I think I'll skip and get a copy for switch instead. On the female aspect it is in many ways over the top, but in a good way. Being female myself I find it weird that we no longer are allowed to be curvy and sensual in order to be tough. And I have to mention - I want Bayonetta's sass.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video, but it felt alienating hearing you say a female protagonist must be attractive and beautiful. It sounds ridiculous and unfair considering most male protagonists are not really attractive to the female audience. Which makes sense as they're not made to be attractive to us, but rather a self insert or power fantasy for the male part of the fanbase. I agree that games which don't have female staff working on their female protagonists have lacking main characters, but not because they're not attractive. It's because men don't understand how to relate to us and make relatable female characters. They treat us like aliens fr. Only example where the female character isn't treated weirdly in-game like "ooo it's a girl" is Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn. She was a capable woman who wasn't sexualised. And she looked so real and natural. Sure, bombshells like Bayonetta and Lara Croft are cool and beautiful, but I want more regular women leading games. It's unfair that men get their Nathan Drakes and Ethan Winters. As a girl who grew up playing as male characters, I was always thrilled to play a side mission or something featuring a female character. We truly are deprived of proper representation. Female consumers have lots of ideas, just a shame no one listens to us.

A woman designed her. The point is when shes being sexy its not for you its for herself. The Motif behind Bayonetta is she is so self confident thats she expresses her self in a way were she feels she shows herself properly. Shes not supposed to be relatable, shes supposed to be an icon for woman to freely express them selves.

Yes, a woman designed her, but at her core Bayonetta is a male fantasy version of a sexy, liberated woman. She's sexy and empowered, but never in ways unattractive to men. Imagine if we treated male characters like that ahahaha

@@anjapaints honestly I agree wit u here, I think Bayo is def empowering to women but there is still the male gazey shots in the cutscenes/animations and the fact that Kamiya (the director) said she was also intendedly designed to be his ideal woman, There is many articles and even the game documentary comment on that. Shimazaki designed her look yes, but she didn't exactly write her persay. Many took in to create her core character, her voice actress said it in an interview she even added her own points of characterization on her own. There are multiple people who developed this game with different intentions. But guess what? There is nothing wrong with that at all. The way it's done is very tasteful I'd say that doesn't feel much sexist or gross. At her core she is empowering to them with her feminine attributes and motherly characterization. Plus what's wrong with having an ideal woman anyways too? (Not saying you said that.) Some women even have an ideal man, as well. (:

It's a shame this game has terrible bosses, 2 exceptions being the woman in red/white and the transforming sphere. Other ones are terrible they literally have nothing to do with the core gameplay. You spend all this time mastering the deep combat system only to be thrust into some quick-time dodge-fest garbage boss fight.

While it is true that bayonetta may be considered a good, if shallow, female main character, her design is 100% fetishes: tall, curves, legs, beehive haircut with glasses (librarian look), high heels, outfit that looks like skintight leather, always something long in her mouth, constantly dancing and talking suggestively, beauty mark, and of course, an english accent. Im surprised that this analysis is praising any of these design elements as anything other than wish fulfillment.

  • @Peacock__

Whats wrong with bayo's design though? A character who's entire thing is fighting in a stylish and fun way can show that by being sexy and free. There's nothing really bad about anything you've said here because it works in the context of the game. I think it would be different if she was some side character who didn't really fight or anything, but it's her flexibility and way of fighting that makes it work. Sexualised character designs work their best when there's a clear design and purpose it's trying to achieve, and the themes of combat (climax, her flexibility, the acrobatics etc) none of it takes away from her character, it only adds to it.

  • @antondelacruz9362

@@Peacock__ as i said, im surprised that clearly fetish elements are praised for adding to her character, because they dont. The game is camp and she is like a female duke nukem - not to be taken seriously, and everything exaggerated for comedic effect. She is no more a strong female protagonist than duke is a strong male protagonist. Theyre caricatures, no more man or woman than adam west was a good depiction of batman.

  • @Peacock__

@@antondelacruz9362 they add to the character because of the context and environment she's in. As you said, the game is campy af, which is why she works so well. There's nothing wrong with a main character being a caricature if it works in the context of the game and fits. If bayonetta was in a more serious setting (cod?) She would be a bad character. Being in a game all about expressing yourself in your fighting works for bayonetta. She expresses herself. Her attractiveness adds to her character because it embodies how she fights and what she does. This is similar to perhaps lady or Trish in dmc - the way they dress and act embodies how they fight and who they are - their designs don't detract from their purpose. Samira from league of legends is similar. A character doesn't have to be deep to be a strong protagonist - especially in a game like this where the story is pretty nonsensical. She's a pretty good avatar for the player to express themselves.

@@Peacock__ character is not the same as aesthetic. The review suggests that she has these elements to make her a stronger character when in fact they only serve to make her more aesthetically pleasing. Theres quite a difference. Yes she is a strong protagonist in the sense of being entertaining, no she is not a strong female protagonist in the sense that feminists are always looking for these days (feminine, role model, not just a piece of ass).

  • @Peacock__

    @Peacock__

    2 жыл бұрын

@@antondelacruz9362 that's wrong. Feminists generally want freedom for women to express themselves. Generally women in the past have been simply portrayed as pretty and that's as far as characterisation goes (generalising). Bayonetta quips, she's smart, stylish, fights well and is pretty powerful and badass. This is what feminists want. There's literally nothing wrong with a woman being attractive. There's nothing wrong with this at all. Being unafraid to show your sexuality is very feminist. She's not just an object to be fetishized - she does stuff. Aesthetics 100% help portray character: If you look up Bakugo from MHA, you can probably immediately say what you think his personality is and you'd probably be right. Bayonetta's design feeds into this idea. While probably not being immediately apparent from static images, in motion she is very expressive. The way she fights is expressive. Her confidence and blaise help feed into the player being expressive and for freedom of fighting how you want. Her confidence bleeds into the player. This is good design. Being confident is a great message to send out.

I have respect for this series but man I just absolutely cannot stand the main character for these games to the point where I never got past the PS3 demo back in the day because of her obnoxious characterization, I genuinely never understood why she's considered likeable or "fun", she's basically just female Dante with tighter clothes
