I remember when this happened. The ref checked the replay at the end of the match and noticed it was in fact not a goal and found the hole in the net but I believe they still allowed the win. The player that scored explained his end of what happened and how baffled he was at the time.

I play goalie and sometimes can't tell if a shot was made or not. My college actually had this issue and refs were not sure if it was a goal or not. I would kinda expect someone who plays professionally to be able to know the goal bounds at all times but idk

In middle school I had the exact opposite thing happen. The ball went in the top right corner of the goal and out through a small hole in the net. Everyone except the ref knew it went in. We were all headed back to the mid-line when he waived it off, forcing a goal kick. I will never forget that moment, or the ref who screwed me.

when i was in middle school we had a game. one player of our team couldnt play, so he was standing besides our goal. at the end a ball came inside the Goal Area, our Keeper somehow missed the Ball, our injured player stepped in and kicked the Ball away. The crazy thing about it neiter the ref nor the other Team nor the watchers, we played away, protestet.

easier way to see it: find number 8 on hoffenheim (he's just beneath the scorecard), and look at the part of the net that swings from behind his calves at 0:44 to the right of his feet at 0:46. good spot though!

Even if there is a hole in the net. All of the opponent still "blinded". Even the goalkeeper is "blinded". This is the actual ghost effect.

This already happened during the World Cup of 1962. USSR attacking player Igor Netto scored against Uruguay through a hole in the net. The referee counted that goal. But Netto explained to him the situation and asked to cancel the goal. That has attributed to Netto a reputation of a most honest player in history.

The referee was Felix Brych. The goal was awarded. VAR wasn't born yet. Leverkusen won 1-2. After the match Kießling apologized to the Hoffenheim fans on his FB page and mentioned he told the ref the ball hadn't gone in. Leverkusen director Rudi Völler suggested to replay the match from the 70th minute onwards. The result was never changed.

Honestly if I was the scorer, I'd probably reacted in the same way. After all the first thing that comes to your mind in such a situation is not that there might be a hole in the net, but rather that I misjudged the situation.. He turned away before the ball went in as well, so he didn't even see the actual impact. And since the opposing team didn't complain at all, I think it's fair to say that it wasn't noticeable on the pitch.

The funny thing is that at he end of the video it shows the score is 1-0, so even if the ref gave it, the scoreboard operator did not!

That was a glimpse into four-dimensional reality.

Alan Hudson once scored a 'goal' for Chelsea against Ipswich where his shot went outside the post, hit the stanchion then rebounded straight back onto the pitch. The ref and linesman were both on the wrong side to see it missing the post, so could be forgiven. With VAR it would never have stood though.

With inconclusive evidence,VAR would still give it a goal.

He even turned around and was upset at himself that he missed, he turns around and is confused that the goal counted.

He has a bit of a smile on his face he knows it didn't go in but everyone else thinks it did. The score went up to 2-0 then back to 1-0 so I'm guessing the goal was disallowed? Tbf he should have told the ref i feel if for no other reason than the fact there's TV cameras everywhere and it's going to come out at some point.

It was in Bundesliga 2013/14. The end result was Hoffenheim - Leverkusen 1:2. If the goal hasn't counted, Leverkusen would had 2 Points less. Leverkusen was at the end fourth with 61 points and qualified for CL-Quali. Fifth was Wolfsburg with 60 points and Europe League. So this goal mades the decission between CL and EL for two teams.

There's a hole in a net, brain can't wrap around it and seal the hole...

Took much more skill to put the ball through that gap than it would have to score.

the refs are supposed to check the nets in the start of every half xD

The worst thing is, Hoffenheim actually got one back before full time. They were robbed of at least a point that day.

No because the only reason Hoffenheim scored later on is because they switched to a ore aggressive formation when they were down by 2 or more. If they were just down by 1 they would have never done that and still lost 1-0.

@@chrisofstars Life is very Chaotic. Meaning small differences in initial conditions can yield widely diverging outcomes, rendering long-term prediction of its behavior impossible in general. So had that goal been not given then the game would have took a completely new turn and no one can know what would a scoreline end up like.

Oscar Cantor it isn't, notice the score went down to 0-1 after they play back the video. The referee probably didn't know and let them kick-off as if it was normal goal

0:55 there appears just to be a gap between the side and back netting and after rolling along the side netting it hits the edge of the back netting and is guided in to goal. Look at the tags on the angle of the net - hints that the net is not continuous at the corner, but 'attached' loosely

Credit to the guy. He didn't celebrate, and he even told the referee the truth. There was nothing more he could have done for fair play.

Temp Step As ArtGames said, there’s a very, very small chance that the ball can tunnel through the net. If time is infinite, it follows that infinitely many individuals will experience large objects tunnelling, even if those occasions are billions of years apart.

Now there should be ' Ghost Goal Technology'

The dude that kicked the ball after it went it really sold it lmao

I was at the football stadium in Aalborg where the home team scored a goal, but the ball bounced back from a steel rod inside the goal to keep the net secured to the ground. Everybody cheered but the referee whistle remained silent. People started talking and shouting that was a goal. The stadium had recently been renovated with one side getting glass walled VIP lounge rooms with huge television screens. The game was live transmitted and the other three sides of the stadium could look up at the screens and see the slow mow video of the ball in the goal but bouncing back from the steel post. Got hilarious when the spectators began singing to the referee to look at the TV monitors, but the goal was never given. By the next game the steel rods inside the goal was gone and the TV screens no longer showed the game during a live transmission.
