Bay of Pigs - Episode 3 - DIP v2 Legendary US Campaign

Ойындар

Time to invade Cuba! That always goes well! Also our ships aren't exactly the fastest, so you might say the episode title is referring to them... Spain certainly isn't impressed with our antics and is trying their best to prevent us from smashing their empire.

You should keep a list of "hero" ships that perform superbly and use those for BCs when you get to that point.

19:33 T-12 can help --- T-12 will have reloaded torpedoes and even with just a pop-gun you can threaten transports. So they either send one CL (reducing the pressure on the Pensacola) to head off T-12 or some transports will suffer holes ... BTW: the fastest bilge pump is a frightened man with a bucket.

It's kind of a historical irony that a USA ship sinks a Spanish ship named after Christopher Columbus! The battle of Cuba was certainly interesting, and now onto more territories. Can your ships even cross the Pacific, though? With their current ranges and all...

They can cross, but it'll take a lot longer once they run out of fuel (I think it cuts the distance you can travel down to 1/3 of your normal range?) and they'll be out of fuel for some time once they reach their destination (unless they have an ally in the region, in which the replenishment will be faster)

The AI only ever seems to do one of two things. Either it's sitting passive more or less letting you shoot them to bits, or it's so aggressive that it goes for full ramming and launch torpedo's at like 100 yards distance.

The Us Navy did the secondary on top of the main gun turret twice they finally wrote the idea off as stupid. Though you could say that particular bright idea fairy came back with the carrier and the idea of a battle carrier. Though still not as dumb or as interesting as Uss vesuvius, now that was a wild idea.

Second Battle of Habana, Part 2 New York Evening Journal: Hearst Communications MDCCCXCV: 16 May 1895 In A Fog A fog bank swept over the battle just as a second division of torpedo boats came at the battle line led by Targa and with Conejera and Orión. The battle line put some fire on Targa, forcing her back, but kept hitting Velasco. Secondary first now hit Conejera, sinking her with one survivor of her 24 man crew. Orión didn’t last long after that, and sank with one survivor. Velasco finally sank with 210 of her 213 man crew after taking two 12” hits. Targa was now the closest ship as the American line swung around the back of the Spanish formation. Targa was sunk with 23 of her 24 man crew, and another torpedo boat division was sunk, 69 of their 72 men lost. Nebraska was now closing on Isla de Cuba, hoping to see the Spanish lose both of them in the same month, just as they had lost both the Habanas. Isla de Cuba was sunk with 214 of her 231 man crew. Her division mates Begoña and Nuestra Señora were isolated from the bulk of the remaining Spanish fleet. Rhode Island was trailing the American formation and the bulk of the Spanish fleet was trying to get astern of her. Begoña took flooding fore and aft and sank with 216 men. Nuestra Señora kept trying to close and keeping Utah from closing up with the rest of the formation. Nuestra Señora kept taking hits, losing her engine and rudder along with both towers. Finally she flooded out and lost 212 of her crew. Velasco’s division was gone, 852 men out of 924. In the Clear Antonio Ulloa, which had taken a hit early, sank with 296 of her 320 man crew. La Juliana was attempting to close with Aragon behind her. As she did the fog lifted. Four Cruçeros lay to the north-west, La Juliana and Aragon in one division, Blasco de Garay and Gerona in the other. They were closing on Utah and Rhode Island. La Juliana was sunk with 215 of her 231 man crew. Aragon tried to wallow closer to the battle line but was sunk with 227 of her crew. This two ship division lost 442 of their 462 man. Blasco de Garay was sunk next, losing 310 of her 320 men. Rhode Island then sniped Gerona with a 12” shell. She sank with 306 of her crew. This division lost 616 men out of 640. However, in the fog the San Juan Baptista and Santiago el Mayor had retired with no damage. África had also gotten away unscathed, but her division mates Navarra and Don Antonio de Ulloa had lost 6 and 7 men respectively. Three torpedo boats still showed, but had the legs to withdraw. These were the Pólux and her division mates Ariete and Dorado. Utah had taken 17 casualties, Nebraska 13, Rhode Island 7, and Colorado 3. Nevada and Delaware picked up the 144 Spanish survivors.

U.S. regulars are supplemented by volunteers led by Assistant Secretary of the Navy Theodore Roosevelt. Spanish Dispositions New York Evening Journal: Hearst Communications MDCCCXCIV: 8 November 1894 A force of Spanish ships, believed to be three Nuestra Señora class Cruçeros de 2a Clas and four Antonio Ulloa class Cruçeros de 3a Clas, are in or in the vicinity of Habana. The majority of the Armada Real Española lay off New York City a month ago, another eight Nuestra Señora class and nine Antonio Ulloa class, along with nine ocean capable Barcos torpederos, but were seen heading south with a reported destination of Guantanamo Bay. Two Barcos torpederos were reported to be in the North Atlantic at that time headed to cover the American east coast.

@@BrotherMunro Unfortunately, (as I learned from my recent 1890's U.S.A. Campaign experience) it does only unlock the route in it's historical completion date... (1914) Sorry to be the messenger of irritating news. Irritating because the trip around South America IS accurately modeled to take ages (Low Fuel speeds) bare minimum 5 turns (or more), effectively forcing you to build a Pacific Fleet in San Fran or San Deigo. Still, it is historically a very realistic scenario Congress faced for determining funding Naval (Infrastructure) Buildup to the Spanish American War... So... 👌

@@BrotherMunro Can confirm, it doesn't open until 1914. The only other option is to go across the Atlantic, thru the Med and the Suez Canal, across the Indian Ocean, and then to the Philippines. Debatable if that's better or worse than going around South America - especially with the short range ships you've built. That's why I usually try to delay the war with Spain until at least the historical 1898 time frame - you have the economy and funds to build a bigger fleet, you have better ship designs and bigger shipyards, you can have a sizeable tech advantage, and you have the time to get a West Coast navy built as well. That's why I initially try to go with at least 10K range minimum, or as close as possible, on my ships - because that's roughly the IRL distance from the West Coast to the Philippines - or at least to the Carolines and Marianas, where you can grab supply bases.

Christmas Riots New York Evening Journal: Hearst Communications MDCCCXCIV: 20 December 1894 With Advent proceeding the isolationist wing of the Republican Party and the liberal pacifist wing of the Democratic Party staged protests in most east coast major cities against the Administration’s war in Cuba. Demands were made that money allocated to the budget of the United States Navy be diverted, in times of war no less, to public funding. In the end the Administration had to divert over $110 million to the dole, with many naval contracts being suspended for a month. Our international ‘friends’ were quite impressed with our largess to the American people.
