What Am I Looking At? - Episode 4 - DIP v2 Legendary US Campaign
Ойындар
This hull is very confusing, it is quite 'modern' but also has very old looking towers and guns. I have no idea. However that is nothing compared to the abomination the Spanish have built!

It should be a rule in this campaign that you have to sell ALL ships before they become obsolete. Because capitalism.
25:10 When building the San Fernando class Battleships, the Spanish engineers pratically took an old Sailing ship, fitted in a Steam Engine, covered her in iron, put on new guns and turrets and simply sent into battle in these conditions
Lmao, the torpedo boat of the first combat became the torpedo itself

In the 1890s, the average lifespan of a warship, before scrapping, is about 7 to 10 years... In 1900s it's about 10 to 15 years. from 1910s onward, it's 15-25 years depending of what type of warship the vessel is (cruisers and destroyers usually live a bit longer than battleships in peacetime, in wartime, usually it's the opposite).

The Washington naval treaty did a lot to explain why so many old superdreadnoughts built before ww1 were still in use in the 1940s for the second world war. And the great depression didn't help either.

In my current campaign I can't even keep the capitol ships around for 5 years... It almost takes as long to build them as their active service life. I think I had a battleship that didn't even see combat during an active war before she was replaced by a newer, bigger meaner ship, lol.

@@user-mi8ef4qd2k Very true. But sadly economy is also a thing... I try and always have 2 battleships under construction at all times which tend to mean as one new bigger, newer comes online, I have to sell or scrap an old one.
The San Gabriel 74 looks like a Monitor/Coastal Defense Ship for me, besides the missing armour xD
In my books, that is a very decent semi-dreadnought you've built, sir! But be careful with the tech, one of the difficulties of the rebooted Spanish campaign was precisely how you fell so behind, and you had to struggle for a very good part of the mid-game.

indeed, it's not that unusual for a Pre-dreadnought to have a secondary AND tertiary battery in addition to the main guns. Take some of the French Predreadnoughts for example. The Massena had 305mm Primary, 274mm Secondary, 138mm tertiary and 100mm quaternary batteries! Mind you French Pre-dreadnughts were... interesting, not necessarilly always effective.
Princessa: I don't always decide not to have armor, but when I don't it's nickel steel. Stay swimming my friend.
45:38 - "They didn't give us Equatorial Guinea. They have a consolation prize." LOL. Best line in the video. ;)

I know many don't, but I love the pre-dreadnought fights. I'd fling swarms of torpedo boats in with the battleline coming in behind.
Thank you so much for releasing extra episodes earlier for members. Membership is definitely worth it. I've been one for 6 months I believe .and I love that your finally doing American campaign 💯💯💯. I wish I had the extra money for be a battleship captain member. Because you make great content and you always get the content out frequently. And I love the super long videos, too
I used the Experimental BB 1 in my own American campaign to make a proper semi-dreadnought with AXY 12" guns, 6 in total. They eventually had to lose X turret as tech advances made them too big.
Spain must have purchased their Delaware copy from Wish. 😂
16:35 Baby's First Battleship is quite adorable (I also like the look of the Brandenburg class turrets)
We might need to fix the AI’s armor budget, somehow.
I'm sorry, but the San Gabriel looked like a converted trawler. Blech. Funny, though. :)
If you hover over the engine efficiency number on the right, it shows you the effects on your acceleration, fuel usage , and such things. You can actually get away with as low as about 65-70% without going into the negatives on them! Something to consider
Oh, wouldn't you just love to see Delaware with quad 12" turrets and radar 3 at one point?
Re: Design of the Minnesota class of battleships. Bureau of Construction and Repair, Design Division: Bureau Report: 24-Nov-1896 The Minnesota class will consist of three battleships designed to a target displacement of 11,800 tons and a top speed of 18 knots. The class has three triple expansion engines provided steam by three induced draft boilers burning coal vented though four funnels generating 8,859 indicated horsepower turning three screws for the required top speed on a design displacement of 11,551 tons fully loaded with a balanced rudder turned by steam power for an operational range of 5,868 nautical miles. The class' main battery is two twin turrets mounted fore and aft bearing 12"/35 Mark 1 guns with 14" face, 3" top, 12" barbette nickel steel armor, turned by hydraulic power with enhanced reloading, and internal barbette armor to prevent penetration. The main magazine carries a balanced load of standard sized 50% Base Fuze HE and 50% Standard AP shells using White Powder as the propellant and Gun Cotton as the bursting charge. The secondary battery is fourteen single casemates mounted seven per sides bearing 6"/40 Mark 1 guns with 3" face and , 0.5" top nickel steel armor and eight twin mounts two on top of the main battery turrets and three per side bearing 5"/38 Mark 1 guns with 1.5" face and 0.5" top nickel steel armor. A tertiary battery consists of fourteen casemates mounted in the superstructure bearing 3"/33 Mark 2 guns with 3" face and 0.5" top nickel steel armor. The secondary and tertiary magazines carry a HE heavy standard load of standard sized 62.5% Base Fuze HE and 37.5% Standard AP shells. Four Mark 1 under water tubes launching a standard load of 16" torpedoes with compressed air aided combustion rounds out the armament. Nickel steel armor is clade 12" on the main belt, 3" on the extended belt, 1.5" on the main deck, 0.5" on the extended deck, .2" on the inner deck, 3" on the superstructure, and 14" on the conning tower. The Class has a single bottom hull and reinforced bulkheads separating extensive compartmentation. A crew of 992 officers and enlisted men will be provided standard quarters. The class will consist of the lead ship Minnesota, Missouri, and Kearsarge. Build time will be 14 months with a commissioning time of 3 months. Cost per ship will be $49,037,310, and monthly maintenance in port of $2,010,530.
36:06: It's nice of you to go whipping through the list of enemy ships, and your own.
Experimental Battleship I is an intriguing early-game Semi-Dreadnought for the US. 🧐 I was able to sacrifice a bit of speed & couple of casements 5in. for the AXY Super-firing 10in. Guns (Since I was able to be blest w/ Mk II's fairly early on). She's fearsome for her size (w/ ample secondaries) & provided very good service in my U.S.A. campaign. Also, kudos for getting a little luck on the Peace deal w/ Spain to acquire all those essential infrastructure/refueling bases for the defense of the Philippines. They should aid in defending your convoy routes and provide advance basing options to counter a threat in Asia! 🌏✅
2:35 I was unaware the Spanish were experimenting with a new form of torpedo boats
Given your position in the world and your economy that will ballon it would be cool to make a trophy fleet just of funny ships you capture just to see some of the weird stuff the ai makes.
I have to say the American ship guns have become quite accurate for their tech level. I guess the American crews have a great intuition for eyeballing range, or they have people dedicated to calculating ranges with telescopes, paper and pencil

The experimental hull looks flexible enough to make a torpedo ram. Just no naming it Thunderchild!
17:55: 360° turrets. So cool!
2:39: It really does say something about your ship design when the only damage you do is by ramming a sinking torpedo boat into a battleship.
Liberation of Luzón New York Evening Journal: Hearst Communications MDCCCXCVI: 4 July 1896 The northern Philippine island of Luzón with its naval base at Manila has been taken after a long campaign. Losses have not been reported, but the success of the United States Marine Corps along with First and Second Fleets we expect will be duplicated in the liberation of Mindanao and the taking of the naval base at Davao.
30:35 ah yes the worlds first big nosed Yorrick style ship.
26:00: The Polux got away from a battle in the Caribbean in May 1895. Halcon was sunk was sunk in January 1885. They might have rebuilt her or they might have gotten one from an ex-ally who cancelled an order. Polux 2 probably came from a cancelled order but I thought the AI didn't use names in the major power's active ship list.

I'm going to expound on a theory previously expressed in an earlier campaign. In Legendary the game "cheats" by duplicating ships during the commissioning phase and posting them on opposite hemispheres. Hence, once you get to the other side of the world you find yourself fighting the same ship again. As for the two Póluxi, I fall back on the fact Spain lost an ally with the revolution.
I gotta say that I think those Spanish battleships look like they should have paddle wheel propulsion.
25:50: they fitted torpedoes on the San Fernandos from the start. Delaware didn't have them until the refit.
Also don’t worry about that because your battleships front hull is made to ram other ships. Looks like Colorado wants a bite of that TB before TB slips underneath the waves 2:24. I did once it was so effective if it doesn’t have anti flooding so.
Until you sell them leave the Delawares and the orher older class in the Pacific, in and around the Philippines, and let the new ones take over in the Atlantic. I'm hoping they stick around until you are fielding your 5th BB class. In essence, the oldest 2 classes serve in the Pacific with the newest 2 classes serving in the Atlantic
I'm trying to start an 1890 Japan campaign and hoo boy you sure make it look a lot easier than it is 😂 every other nation pumps out 15-25 ships at the start and I've barely got 10!
Great White Fleet of brothermunro grows
when you mothball or take out of your fleet take out those names. so you don't get 2 or 4 same named ships
16:40 it looks like the 4-7y bathtub toy just like the cute one from earlier 2-4y old bathtub toy.😊
24:08: Okay, Resoluctión was sunk in the Caribbean in June of 1895 at Guantanamo. Pólux I, (260 tons) was NOT sunk at Second Habana in May 1895. Pólux II (261 tons) was sunk in June as well. Halcón (242 tons) was sunk in September 1895 at san Juan. It's now November 1896 and these torpedo boats take six months to build and one to commission, so rebuilds or game cheats, you decide. A Antonio Ulloa class light cruiser takes 9 months to build and 2 to commission, so plenty of time to build her too. My suspicion is that Denmark had both the Resoluctión and a Pólux being built for them which were confiscated by the revolutionary Junta in Madrid.
I have an idea for ever battleship class you make you have to keep the one with the class name.
Funny, I have that Experimental Battleship I in active service using the 3 main gun layout. With 3x2 11.9 Mk II . Yes, they will certainly struggle if they go up against a big enemy battleship, but they can murder CA's ! And outclass ships equal to their 12.500 ton weight.
14:50 San Gabriel was a third rate 74 gun ship built in 1772
Spanish fleet refusing to engage? Probably seen what's happened to the rest of the fleet and mutinied!
Not a semi-dreadnought: - a semi-dreadnought is commonly considered as a pre-dreadnought with a very heavy (possibly numerically reduced) secondary battery. Compare: (3” and below are for TB defense and not listed) 1894-98: Majestic class[1]: 2 twin 12”[2], 12 quick firing 6” in casemates 1902-06: King Edward VII class: 2 twin 12”, 4 single 9.2” turrets (at the corners of the superstructure), 10 6” guns in a central battery (the 9.2” turned out to be heavy, weight needed saving.) 1905-08: Lord Nelson class: 2 twin 12” and 4 twin + 2 single 9.2”. Not a single 6”. Or the Satsuma class: 2 twin 12”, 6 twin 10”, 8 single 6”, 12 single 4.7” - originally planned as all 12” but they could not get enough 12” barrels. The Dreadnought: 5 twin 12” (1 superfiring and 2 wing turrets) … and that’s it. [1] The Mikasa is directly based on the Majestic class, and is the only pre-dreadnought battleship and the only british-built battleship of any type still in existence. She saw service at Port Arthur and the Battle of the Yellow Sea and Tsushima. [2] first large British guns using smokeless powder, being both lighter and more powerful than the previously used 13.5” guns. Also the first fully enclosed gun houses, unlike the former cylindrical turrets, these gun houses became what we now call a “turret”.
4:13: Ah ha! Spain as a battleship in August 1895!
The Spanish sure have a small pair of Polux 😂
I'd call it a pocket dreadnought.
26:33 you Shure the name wasn't the bollocks TB.
25:50 and it's main guns come from the Maginot line😊
you literally did the IRL Spanish-American War except 1-2 years early lol
Need garrison ships, keep growing the shipyards.
Technically, all ships sink due to heavy flooding.
44:41: You didn't scroll the ship list.
I don’t know how but every time I do a long US campaign my early battleships have 16in belts with 12 and 8in guns
Why not expand shipyard capacity on the West Coast" Try San Francisco (Hunter's Point), Long Beach California, and Puget Sound in Washington (Bremerton). You can then build for a two ocean navy without having to round the Cape or Magellan's Pass until the Panama Canal gets built.

@@BrotherMunro So, absolute game realism then. The protected cruiser USS Olympia, she of the the Battle of Manila Bay fame, was built in San Francisco, with triple expansion engines, armor of Harvey and nickel-steel plates, two twin turrets sporting 8 inch guns, and a horde of 5" and 57mm secondaries. She was launched in 1892, completed by 1894 and commissioned in early 1895. Too bad the game can't build her, based on acquired technology and industrial capacity in the same time frame. Maybe your mod could fix that.
Guantanamo Bay Falls New York Evening Journal: Hearst Communications MDCCCXCV: 18 August 1895 The resistance at Guantanamo Bay is over and the last Spanish stronghold on Cuba has been taken. Operations against Puerto Rico covered by the Second Fleet continue, and with the First Fleet now freed up they have been sent to join Second Fleet to finish the invasion of the island. On Puerto Rico losses reported this month were 1900 for the Spanish and 763 casualties for the American Expeditionary Force. There are reports that Spain has completed and commissioned their first battleship.
Invasion of Mindanao Fails Again! New York Evening Journal: Hearst Communications MDCCCXCVII: 13 February 1897 The expectation that the southern Philippines would fall has again been challenged, as resistance to the landings have been more effective than that in Luzön, and the activity of the Armada Española, costly though it has been, has been more disruptive. The Spanish have now forced one Acorazado de 2a clase, two Cruçeros de 1a Clas, five Cruçeros de 3a Clas, and two Barcos torpederos into the Davao Gulf where they inexplicably avoid combat while disrupting Marine operations. The Naval Department however has committed to continuing the invasion.

27:50: Fifty-six ships sunk so far and every one by heavy flooding. Did you tweak out extensive fire and structural damage or is it just too early in naval technological development for those to happen yet?

Everything has standard bulkheads and probably no anti-flooding so yeah it’s a tech thing
Your ships aren't going through the Panama canal in 1895, regardless of how much coal they have. It won't exist for another 20 years. The coal may be why they didn't go around South America, though.
It’s Over New York Evening Journal: Hearst Communications MDCCCXCVII: 25 May 1897 The Naval Department has ordered operations against Mindanao ended. The Administration has sent an offer to negotiate Spain’s surrender to Madrid, clearly stating the demands to be met would be harsh. The new revolutionary Junta in Madrid however needs peace to organize the country and meet the promise of free elections postponed by the continuing war.

Sorry my friend but that cannot be technically called a semi dreadnought since a semi dreadnought has to have at the very least three main gun turrets so i would call it a low budget advanced ship
Revolution in Spain! New York Evening Journal: Hearst Communications MDCCCXCV: 16 November 1895 When the attempt by the Consejo de Ministros to negotiate a peace treaty with the United States of American fell through the mobs in Madrid rose up and overthrew the Spanish Monarchy. Almirante Supremo de la Armada Francisco Rodríguez has been sent into exile to Argentina, along with the surviving members of the House of Bourbon. Kongeriget Danmark has cancelled their alliance with Spain, and their orders of torpedo boats under construction have been confiscated. Some good news for the Republica de España at least, they have taken the Africa province of Mauritania and its port of Nouakchott. The United States Navy’s First and Second Fleets are still sailing east to the Strait of Gibraltar. Their operational objective has not been announced.
I'm wondering, not sure if I remember right ? Did you say that the difference in Legendary "only" really is that the AI has free money ? Oh, and can 3D print battleships.... Not the actual skill of the AI ? Also, what in Gods unholy name was that Spanish Battleship ????

And what would an American battle be without the fourth of July explosives from a sinking ship .. where almost every single gun one by one explodes in salute to the superior Americans. That is proper respect for our flag. I mean they even had 5 of the 7 explode after it was already sinking and the BIG Gun exploded last just like a proper show should. Ahhhh.
No panama canal yet either.
16:21: It's a little unfair to compare these two silhouettes. That's a Truxtun on the left and a San Fernando rip off of the Delaware on the right.
