    Yes, cam phasers and timing chain tensioners require proper oil pressure to function correctly. That's true. However, the timing chain tensioners have a ratcheting mechanism so they will never loosen, even in the complete absence of oil pressure. And the cam phasers similarly don't need oil pressure in those first three seconds after engine start-up because they aren't doing anything to change camshaft timing.

    I picked up one at Smokey Mountain Jeep Invasion last august. Have not had a singe ticking start since installation with the spin on adapter. Since then I have added a top mount supercharger. Unfortunately this wouldn’t work with the top mounts, so I ran into them at JeepBeach23 and found they make a remote adapter that fits under the supercharger and works just as good with the remote filter adapter. Super great product!!! Well worth the money when compared to the cost of lifter repair bill or motor replacement.

    I think it’s worth mentioning that when performing the oil change it would be of paramount importance to make sure the air supply is clean, and free of moisture/debris. Most shop air is not. A bike pump or inflater would be better than shop air.

    Unless I’m missing something, all engines need time for the oil to reach critical parts, that’s why I was instructed, 60 years ago, to never rev your engine when first starting. You need time to allow the oil to flow throughout the engine before taking off. Also, that’s why you always check your oil level after 5-10 minutes after shutting off the engine.

  • @MotorsandMischief

    @MotorsandMischief

    8 ай бұрын

    You don't rev the engine when first starting because the oil is cold, not because it takes that long to reach critical parts. The oil system is fully functional within 3-5 seconds of startup, but depending on the engine can take 3-10 minutes or more for the engine to get to operating temperature. For the longevity of the engine, keep the RPMs as low as possible until the engine is at operating temp. As for checking the oil, its good to wait for the oil to drain back into the pan before checking the level. 5-10 minutes is excessive. You can get an accurate reading after about 30 seconds. That's why its possible to accurate check your oil while you're filling the vehicle at the gas station and don't have to wait past the fill up time to get an accurate reading. Thank you for your comments!

With all the cheap products out there that don't last and just focus on being as cheap as possible to get the sale, we're pleased to have found a product that's made in the USA and designed to last. We honestly wouldn't want to put anything on such a critical part of our engine that used any cheap parts or labor to lower the cost. This is one of those areas where you get what you pay for. As to the warranty, the Magnuson-Moss act prohibits manufacturers from voiding warranty claims unless they can prove the system caused the problem. However, as we say to anyone who is worried about the warranty aspect: wait until after the warranty period if you're concerned about warranty issues. Thanks for the comment!

    We'll say we halfway agree with you. If you are planning to use your Jeep for 60k miles and then trade it in on a new one, this is most likely overkill. However, if you're hoping to get maximum life expectancy out of the engine, then any amount of wear saved at startup theoretically extends the overall life of the engine. Thanks for the comment!

    Everyone wants to know… does this void my warranty?

  • @MotorsandMischief

    @MotorsandMischief

    Жыл бұрын

    Excellent question, and we probably should have mentioned that in the video. The short answer is no. Some dealerships will try to tell you that if you modify your vehicle then that makes it ineligible for warranty and this is absolutely not true. Thanks to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a dealer must prove that the aftermarket equipment caused the need for warranty repairs before it can deny coverage. Some dealers will charge you a diagnostic fee if they think the warranty claim will be kicked, but after diagnostics if it's determined the aftermarket part did not cause the problem, they will refund you the diagnostic fee. Baxter Performance has a great write-up here: www.baxterperformanceusa.com/does-installing-baxter-performance-adapters-affect-my-warranty/ . Thanks so much for the question!

    I think it is a scam. How about the oil filters located on the side of the engine at the bottom, can't see how this helps.

  • @MotorsandMischief

    @MotorsandMischief

    8 ай бұрын

    The filters you're referring to are not really at the bottom of the engine, they're at the side, above the oil pump, and those filters have check valves. So the engine is only pumping oil from the filter which is maybe 2/3s or half of the distance to the bottom of the pan and the oil pick up. For this 3.6, there is a noticeable difference in valve clatter at startup on this engine between when its been sitting and when it was only recently turned off. When you add this adapter, you'll notice less valve clatter, so the system is making a difference that you can hear at every startup. Is this absolutely necessary and the engine will blow up without it? Of course not. But for folks who want to get the most longevity out of their motors, the less time the engine spends running without oil on startup, the better. But its not a scam and everything we reported on is backed up by rigorous testing. Check out www.baxterperformanceusa.com/videos there are videos showing the drain back on the factory system. Thanks for your comment.

    We hear you, $400 is a lot of money. We wish it was $200. Heck, as long as we're wishing, we wish Jeep had engineered this thing properly in the first place so the add on wasn't necessary. And also that it was a V8. Part of it is the economy and supply chain issues, part of it is a lot of R&D went into these things and they're pretty darn well made; all that costs something. But we do wish Baxter could afford to sell them cheaper, 100% agree with you.

    Sigh. Your exclamation points not withstanding, it will not void the warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Act prohibits manufacturers from voiding warranties because of aftermarket parts installation. Its been around for almost 50 years. The aftermarket part has to be the *cause* of the failure for a manufacturer to void the warranty. They can't void it simply because you installed aftermarket parts. This is 'Merica!, we don't work like that. That said, we'll say what we say to every single person who has hesitation about installing this on their rig and having an issue with a future warranty claim: don't install it now. There's no hurry. Once your Jeep is out of warranty, then you can buy this and install it. 60k miles or whatever your Jeep's factory warranty is isn't going to cause terminal wear without this upgrade. The upgrade only helps extend the longevity of the motor anyway. So if it worries you, just don't do it. Bam, no worries.

    ....... You're awfully passionate for someone who hasn't got their facts straight. If you actually read the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, it makes no differentiation between parts or a modification. It stipulates that warranties cannot be voided merely due to the use of aftermarket parts or services. All aftermarket parts can be considered modifications. Manufacturers have to prove the non-original part or service was the cause of the defect to deny warranty claims. But look friend, no one is forcing you to buy this. We aren't even the sellers on this item. We simply liked it, installed it on our own vehicle and made a video about. Don't think its worth $400? Great, don't install it. Think it will void your warranty? No worries, don't install it. But please stop spreading false information for people who do find the modification to be valuable and worth the money.
