Baviaans Ep6 Camping in the Wilderness of The Outeniqua Mountains Overlanding at its best!

Our adventure with the Rosema's and the Bushtech Landcruiser 79 Series is coming to an end! We savour our last few days, but first we make a mission to the Knysna heads as we needed to resupply and refuel, before we tackled the famous Prince Alfred pass between Knysna and Uniondale. A beautiful lush forest road snaking through incredible mountain scenery, was a dream! Our camp for the night would be at Rondekop in the Outeniqua mountains, a specatular little wilderness camp! We finally got a chance to play with the Husqvarna electric chainsaw and mil some wood for our epic camp fire and prepare some for the next set of campers! We leave a rainy and beautiful Outeniqua behind to finish our prince Alfred Pass trail and make our way to Canon Valley near mosselbay for the last night of camping near the ocean with the Rosema's before Andy and I make our. wayto Cape Town to continue our journey!

    This episode was like a knife to the heart! I grew up in George and spent my childhood exploring the area between Mossel Bay and Knysna. Hiking the Outeniqua Mountains, diving the shark infested waters of Mossel Bay, skiing the Knysna lagoon. Thanks for making me so homesick! ❤️❤️❤️

    My parents did it back in the day on our way to plet by mistake in their Opel Astra station wagon, I still have memories being in the back of the car while it was raining and my dad was losing his bananas about them taking the wrong road! :D

    Dewalt: Saw about 5k, then 7,5k for 2 x 6.0 Ah batteries and charger. They make 9 and 12 Ah batteries as well. It's a joy to use, almost as effective as a petrol one, but quiet and behaves a lot better! And the chain stops running the moment you let go of the trigger. And no trouble starting the thing, and much less maintenance! And no, I do not sell them; just have the privilege of having one on hand 🙃

    Excellent vid as usual. Please don't forget the review of the Garmin Tread. How about a stand alone vid of the different versions (the base unit/overland/SXS) compared to the older Garmin Overlander. I see no good comparisons on the internet about these units.

    Outeniqua is such a different flora to what you've covered so far. It not the typical geology you'd think of when one mentions Africa - where images of wide open plains and/or desert usually comes to mind. It looks more like Australia (and maybe parts of North America) than Africa. It goes to show how vastly different geology Africa has to offer. 👍

    Absolutely! Its alot like what the americans have in Oregon I think; where they have big forest and also some desert landscapes. (I might be wrong with the names) And then I think the victorian high country in Aus

    Nice episode, liked the opening scene. It gave a peaceful and relaxed vibe. Loved the scenery.♥ IMO, remote wild camping is the best. Away from crowds and having total privacy. Though sometimes the mind does wonder of scary thoughts when on a solo remote wild camp. Mighty decent and thoughtful of you guys to cut up wood and leave at the camp. TIP: Though while cutting wood is quicker with a chainsaw, splitting them is quicker with an axe or a tomahawk. An axe/tomahawk is part of the gear I take when 4WD/camping. I hope Andy's back injury wasn't too serious.

    It was a beautiful area, and so peaceful; I am glad you managed to get that through the video! Bushtech had put the chainsaw in the cruiser for us, and we were super excited to get to actually use it! I want to get a nice hatchet for splitting wood when needed.

    Also consider leg protection (chainsaw chaps) whenever you use a chainsaw - if that had kicked back at you and opened an artery in such a remote spot you would be dead.

    for sure; Safety is always super important. I knew someone would mention it :) Luckily I am a wilderness first responder and Andy also has level3 first aid; so we would be able to at least deal with a situation like that enough to get to a hospital in Kynsna a couple hours away. But it certainly wouldnt be fun!

    Where do one get the brackets to mount the recovery tracks on canopy door? Do one need to upgrade the “shocks” on door?

  • @RoamOverlanding

    @RoamOverlanding

    I use the maxtrax Pin kit; and we mounted it straight to the door; I don’t think we needed to upgrade the shocks for just 2 but I think if you had 4 on then you might need too!
