At first I was thinking, “Oh yeah, gimme that Colossus!” But then I think I had a minor aneurysm when I heard the price. I’ll take multiple smaller ships over one huge one. That way you’re not putting all your eggs in the same... egg.

Hello Grim. Ah the Colossus and Invader. I fondly remember a Colossus being the focal point of a battle for possession of a partially wrecked example of this Drop Ship type. My 'side' lost the battle however, and the 'winners' were able to salvage several near pristine SLDF Mechs and Vehicles from the Colossus. As for the Invader. That one was subject to my penchant for altering designs. My first Merc 'Company' had an Invader Drop Ship that was used to move the Company's dependents and security forces. Later on, I 'acquired' two more and 'converted' them to transport Mech units. Although a single Invader never had more than two Lances of Mechs, it still retained enough space to house more than enough troops to secure the Drop Ship and it's Landing Zone. Even later on, after being betrayed by House Liao over Contract Payments and the resulting looting of several Light Mech Factories, and the Unit's disappearance into the far Periphery, The Ghost Lions Legion... the Successor to the former Star Lions Regiment, had several Invader Class Drop Ships in their TO&E. (Table of Operations and Equipment). Most of the Invaders were merely updated versions of the original design, utilizing 3055 tech and the data from the Helm Memory Core. About 1/3d of the total Invaders were, however, updated versions of the 'Mech Carrier' version that I had originally altered. Having such 'converted' versions allowed me to surprise several opponents, by being able to land Mech forces where they only expected to find Troops. This allowed me to have Light and Medium Mechs available to bolster those landed Infantry units, and do things like long ranged reconnaissance and deep penetration raids by Mech forces against objectives that were only expecting to face Infantry. The resultant confusion in the Enemy's reports on my combat operations tilted the balance of several battles, since the foe had to peel off forces to bolster their supposedly 'safely secure' rear bases. I also used the Invader's ability to lift off quickly to my advantage, by being able to redeploy units nearly at will, and raid the Enemy's supply depots and disrupt their supply chains enough to actually cause their front line units to occasionally deploy with very limited munitions load outs. This factor alone tilted the battlefield in my favor on several occasions, and caused me to 'win' the overall planetary battle and force the Enemy Commander to surrender his forces somewhat intact. Since then, no one seems to want to let me use 'odd' or 'rare' Drop Ship types for some reason. I wonder why?? *wry grin* Spoken Frank-ly

Way, way back when I played the board game, I knew those dropship names as the Leopard (Lance sized), Union (company sized - 12), and Overlord (Regiment sized - 36).

Correction: Overlord (Battalion sized - 36). A regiment is 108-180 'mechs.

My group calls me the aerospace asshole as I run dropships for my unit. I have a Colossus, Taiho, and 2 Tutzberg assault dropships plus an overlord, leopard, and 2 unions. We have often done base raid scenarios on each other over the years but honestly even just a union planetside is a stout defence, a colossus or Tutzberg attack is suicidal.

FYI - you put "Invader" in the title. You meant "Intruder". The Invader is a JumpShip.

@@GrimDarkNarrator No, no not the movie, the Rough Necks cartoon from 1999. They drop the heavily armored drop pod from orbit. As the pod gets close to the ground the Sentinel style walker, the centurion style armed mech and each individual infantry man is ejected in a different direction. When the infantry men are feet from the ground the thick ablative armor each one is wearing activates rockets to stop the descent falling off just before they land leaving each infantry man in a Halo style exo armor. Just like in the the 1950's book the movie is based on.
