Gaius' role is simple, self-preservation and ego. He does whatever saves his skin whenever necessary. And when he feels safe, he does whatever polishes his ego. BTW, another thing that makes Liam's loss so profound for Caprica Six is that she was the one who was fascinated with a human baby in the miniseries and started to cry after killing it.

You mentioned losing your sister and I wanted to share something with you, as a gesture of solidarity. My sister passed away 28 years ago today. She was 33 at the time and if affected me for many years from that point. She had two daughters who were 3 and 9 at the time. What I want to convey is, time will lessen the pain we feel for their loss. It never goes away completely but, it doesn't overwhelm me anymore. You are a strong woman and I don't know how much the loss of your sister still weighs on you. That you can openly talk about it, says you've healed very well. Just want to let you know that I can understand. Anyway, onward to the next chapter in both BSG and life in general.

William was a name of germanic origin made of two elements meaning will and helmet, hence Wilhelm. It arrived in France with the Germanic Franks, who ultimately gave the country its name. Later it arrived in England with the Norman conquest, and eventually made its way to Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Liam is an Irish shortened form of the name, which spread to other parts of the world following the Great Irish Famine.

Seeing the Cylon raider flying side by side with a viper and the ending where Adama and Roslin both realize the cylons and humans have already integrated into one group much like Galactica is with the Cylon tech always stuck with me. The lines are gone its no longer just human vs Cylon the world is too complicated for that, people are too complicated man and machine. Eventually you move so far past where you started with so many changes that you can't maintain old lines in the sand and its not even really one choice its a series of choices where you don't even realize its happened. With Adama's best friend being a Cylon and near the end when he's comforting him, it isn't a man and a machine its just two people.

Gaeta and Zarek's failed revolution was, in part, to prevent Cylons from integrating into the fleet. Due to the large number of pilots who joined the mutiny and are now incarcerated, Galactica can only assemble a CAP by integrating Cylons pilots. The mutiny had the exact opposite impact.

Indeed! In ye not so olden times, praying to God to intervene was always an act of desperation or ego. Miracles (or their reports) were no longer God’s M.O., ever since Jesus and his travelling band did the Middle East Grassroots Speaking Tour. In modern times, the notion of the “power of prayer” returned, especially in the USA (thanks, Televangelists). For some, it now takes the place of action and responsibility. “I did my part,” say the supplicative Christians. When I was still Christian (back when Billy Idol was the saviour, big hair was beautiful, and Superman was the greatest superhero movie ever made) prayer as a substitute for action would’ve been considered a dereliction of Christian duty. Now, it’s a hall pass for apathy.

Funny isn't it? 'Cylon Ellen' resurrecting in the last episode was like a completely different person ... the second she's back with Tigh she's just toxic Ellen once again! I'd forgot how heartbreaking this episode was: bad enough Adama was trying to hold it together as his beloved battlestar was 'cylon-ified'.... but just when that hits you, Caprica-6 losing her baby just takes a sledgehammer to what's left of your feelings, and Saul going to find Adama and breaking down in his arms is just gut wrenching! Everyone is great in this episode as always, but one thing watching your reactions has made me realize is just how often the excellent Michael Hogan steals the frakkin show, & this is another fine example! Can't wait to see you react to episode 17 - no spoilers, but it's really the beginning of the end!

One thing I think this show glossed over is how little the cylons knew, and the fact that they all had their minds wiped by the #1 / Cavil. You would think it would be an important, emotional, and controversial surprise that everyone would want to talk about. Adama would love to know that there was one cylon model orchestrating everything. The 6's and 8's would love to know that they were secretly betrayed and that "majority rule" wasn't actually the cylon way according to Cavil. But instead everyone acts like half this shit never happened. I also agree that Chief and the others having totally new personalities now and wanting to leave immediately doesn't make sense either and wasn't explained. As far as we know, they don't have their entire memories back, so all their memories are just of living like normal people, and for them to want to hop onto a crippled ship with nothing and nobody they're familiar with and disappear into the void when they're being hunted by Cavil who has all their actual technology and can't be defeated by them... just makes no sense. And even if they did have all their memories back, their home was a normal planet with millions of people, so why would they want to leave their new civilization behind and just hang out with their children? Shrug, it's normal for shows to rush and stumble toward the end, I guess. It's still good.

It will not be easy, but for the sake of ending the cycle of hatred, we must at least try to unite. P.S. By the way, the last Five flew relatively only a few years, but in reality 2000 years. They had engines that could fly at the speed of light.

25:03 Yeah the subtitler definitely messed up. Or was that her voice? 24:39, Okay there's Boomer. They did get her out of the brig. I think the editors were probably fretting that that scene was either cut or unfilmed so they wanted to dodge the fact they had to either hide her from the scenes so they made it as unobvious as possible, but still she made it in. Guess the subtitler did the job right after all.

I'm just glad to have a few episode without the Starbuck drama-mama. We've had so many episodes that centered on her arc, and yes, I know it'll pick up again, just a nice break. It's not so much of an issue of Saul and Caprica losing a child, as much as it shows that a cylon pairing is possible. What I do find a bit disturbing about the cylon downloading process, is that there aren't different ages. I know the casting would sky-rocket to include teen-aged versions of existing cylons, but doesn't it just seem strange that Ellen came back as the same age as when she died? What about a much younger, more attractive and vibrant version of herself? I mean, at some point in time, Saul was young, he had hair, and Ellen too would have been of the same age. Then some 20 years later, the other F5 versions would have been 'born/created'. Or did they just pop in, aged 25-30 and integrated into the fleet, or civilian positions. I question Tori, was she always such a wench, proud of her cylon heritage, or whatever element set her apart? Afterall, at some point in history Tori and Galen were a thing. Was he different way back when too, perhaps more cynical, or did he always have a soft spot for the down-trodden? I guess what we got is what we got from the writers. Did Anders from the past fall in love with a woman named Cara Thrace, or was it just that he fell in love with the Harbinger of Death? I could almost imagine him have a tattoo of her face on his arm, a woman he only saw in his dreams. Who were the basis of the 7 cylon models? We know Ellen based 'John' on her father, but what was the precursor to Caprica, or Sharon.. were these scientists, love interests, or were these just 'examples' of humanity, packed into nice neat little digital packages? It's sad to watch these last few episodes, it's almost as if we have come full circle. Watching them grow, emote, and fail. As a viewer, those that we hated in the beginning, we've come to have respect for... and that is great work on behalf of the writers. Still, there still feels like there was so much more 'show' to watch. Probably best to end it when they did, how they did it, and leave us with that one final question... "All of this has happened before, and it will happen again.... Unless?"

I mean, a couple seasons ago Head Six was talking Gaius into picking up a nuclear warhead. A crate of carbines sounds pretty harmless in comparison. OTOH, in both cases, Gaius successfully convinced Adama to give it to him. I'm not sure what that says about either of them...

Caprica Six is also directly responsible for the genocide of the colonies in a way the majority of the Cylons are not. That's _why_ she has the name Caprica! Kinda funny of Roslin to start chatting with her by name as if it's just a coincidence she has the same name as the place that was Roslin's home until everyone she knew was nuked to death there.

It was so unpredictable of how Ellen was going to react about Saul and Caprica being together. Didn't know if she was going to think as a scientist and thrilled that there was going to be a pure Cylon child, or was so going to be insanely jealous and wants to destroy them. Doc Cottle saying to not unplug anything, we had an x-ray tech bring a portable x-ray machine into the ICU and she unplugged a ventilator...twice, true story.

William is Germanic, Liam is an Irish diminutive of William. If you think about it this falls into the theme of the show that you should be seeing at this point. Humanity is a creation over time of many different parts just as names are related to each other from a past root. The question still is what does it mean to be human? What does it mean to be Cylon? Is there a difference? We all started the show thinking they were just machines. As Star Trek "A Measure of A Man" said are we not all just machines created by our parent? Is how we treat them about us more than it is about them? Are they new life and part of humans that we have created. How is our humanity now defined? Its a sloppy ending to these themes but they are all there.

Always felt that Tyrol voting to leave was purely a story point to make Ellen the deciding factor and nothing else. It doesn't really follow who his character is. This kind of thing has happened here and there throughout the series, but I feel this happens more in season 4 where characters act unlike themselves to further the plot.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was due to the crunch, where they had to fit two seasons into one because they knew it was their last. You could give Tyrol an arc where he gets ready to leave, but they didn't have time.

@@clarkmichaels822 It's funny because whenever I rewatch season 4 I'm filled with the feeling that they were struggling with filling the time and resorted to dragging out shaggy dog stories like Tigh's prison rape affair and Gaius's cult, with just a few spots of focused storytelling like the mutiny, catching up with Ellen, and the Earth reveal. They had plenty of room for Tyrol if they cut out more of the garbage.

Back in the day , there were two "crossfires" between argumentative fans who just couldn't concede : The Atheists VS everyone else , and the Cavil was the representation of the 'perfect atheist / nihilist ' VS everyone else . Speaking of the second supposition ... -- not so recently I saw a meme that reminded me of Cavil (aka mr. "God is dead") : The meme had a Bible burning, with people cheering about the death of God , while the second panel had someone cracking open a book titled "Is beastiality wrong ?" -- signifying the "no guard rails (of morality) for the people who think that God is dead) . Cavil represented that attitude, throughout BSG -- from never doubting the exterminaton of the humans, to essentially sleeping with his "mother" Ellen , to showing an interest in dissecting her brain . There are no breaks as far as Cavil is concerned , no constraints nor boundaries are needed . And from what I've learned from religious folks -- the above sentence for them encapsulate Atheists as a whole , while Atheists have a very different view of themselves and religious folks .

Reintroducing us to Ellen as wise, loving, and motherly, then flipping back to the Ellen we started hating, then drifting back towards something in between was amazing. On the Anders-Liam connection and the baby's death, as I recall Liam started kicking right after Anders' brain activity flatlined. Was it cause and effect? If so, which was which? Maybe they had nothing to do with Tigh loving Six? Maybe everything? Nasty, nasty writerses. We hates them. 😆 Gaius is the perfect example of why defining God(s) according to the interpretation of individuals is flawed. If a kid tells you her grandma makes cookies from love, sunbeams, and giggles, do you assume grandma isn't real, or that the kid doesn't know how grandma makes cookies? If you really understand how the brain works, particularly the Cylon brain, you really should publish and collect your Nobel Prize. 😉

Two things. I don't think Tory's journey to realize the meaning and focus of her existence needs to conform to the path that appears to be congruent to the greater community which is noted as having started to form in this episode. We dont really know much of her backstory (and it can certainly be argued the character was shoehorned in), but as with everyone else depicted, she was presented with a new life paradigm she had to process and if her determination was that it should be as a Cylon, away and apart from humans, full stop, it's a choice that's as valid as any other we've seen. One can claim, at least, she didn't hold Cavil's determination about what the fate of humans should be. Now, you must be aware of choices she makes going forward by this point (as well as her fate, which is a different story), so I'll just say the view of what she comes to support, also doesn't hold fast to a steadfast oppositional nature, as you're positing here. On a briefer note, as you brought it up again in the opening, ultimately, Lee hardly can be cited as a font of wise decision-making in the way Roslin counsels him to pursue. I have to imagine you already know exactly what I'm referring to, but as it's a huge matter which I'd comment on a bit, I'll hold off doing so until the time is right in your airing schedule!!!
