Battle Walk of East Cemetery Hill - Part 2

Join Licensed Battlefield Guide Robert “Bobby” Housch for a tour of the grounds, battle lines, and the fighting on East Cemetery Hill.
In Part 1, last week, Bobby focused on the Union movements, showing the terrain as it looked in 1863, as well as the current landscape that we recognize today. Part 2 covers the arrival of Confederate forces, their placement, and the ensuing fighting--including hand-to-hand combat--on Day 2 at Gettysburg.
If you missed Part 1, you can find it posted on KZread (just log in, and search for Adams County Historical Society).
Bobby Housch is a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, who now resides in Gettysburg. In addition to his LBG tours for visitors, he teaches history with the South Western School District near Hanover. In his “spare time,” he serves as a volunteer with the Adams County Historical Society.

The three day Battle of Gettysburg can be best understood as The Battle for Cemetery Hill. That interpretation provides a coherent narrative for the movements of both armies. This attack on East Cemetery Hill is the one and only time the Confederates actually gain the crest! The consequences of this moment for our country are profound, and the details you provide enhance the drama as it is played out in our imaginations. An argument can be made this attack is the true “High Watermark” of the Confederacy. Thank you for your work, and thank you Adams County Historical Society.

Dude, what an awesome little presentation. It's always a treat to see photos from the era that i've never seen before. Very well done! Btw, I think it's ok to say "he'll'." 😅

Great presentation. The use of maps, cuurent photos, and the level of detail provided definitely added to my understanding of this part of the field. I wonder if there is a similar presentation for The Wheatfield, which is perhaps the most confusing part of the battle.

This fight in the dark on July 2nd was crucial to the Union victory. If the Confederates held this position with Gordon’s or Rodes’ help, things could’ve been much different. Sadly, this part of the battle is rarely covered and thus not understood by the average visitor. Neglected though so important.

Those buildings and parking lots should have never been built... its an eye shore and destroying history. How you (as in anyone or just society) gonna teach history of these locations if your destroying it..???? 🙄. This video is perfect for what I’m talking about. Pitiful just pitiful!
