I'm from Scotland, and I visited Gettysburg in 2017 with my old American uncle Jack. We travelled from Valley Forge where he lived to Gettysburg. It was a long drive but was absolutely worth it. When you think of all the young Americans who lost their lives there, it sent a shiver up my spine. He took a photo of me on top of the Pennsylvania Monument. I love history, whether it's Scottish, English or American civil war, or 1st World War, 2nd World War. I just find it all very interesting.

@@rspro575 True enough. Stonewall may have been killed at Gettysburg. But he Would have taken Cemetery and Culp's Hill and messed up the Union right. We will never know but it would have been a different battle. C'est la guerre...

@@marknewton6984 It can not be said for certain that he would have taken that hill. He may have had his butt handed to him that day. It's all speculation. Would he have been more aggressive than Ewell? Probably. But that doesn't assure a particular outcome.

Im right outside town. Our 1200 acer farm has alot of remains from the french n idian war same with the civil war
I went there myself in April 1990. On little Round top ,off the beaten trail, I went to the far flank where the 20th Maine fought the charging 15th and the 47th Alabama. I read excerpts of the battle of Little Round Top from the novel, The Killer Angels By Michael Shaara. A surreal experience indeed. One I will NEVER forget. There's a profound energy presence there. Almost palpable.
Tim and Gary talkin Gettysburg, I wait for this all year!
Gary and Tim back together! All is right with the world!
I can't think of a better way for me to spend my 65th birthday than watching this today. Thank you!

@@AmericanBattlefieldTrust Tank you! I only wish I could be there in person. I had many ancestors who fought for the Union. Great Grandfathers and Great-Great Grandfathers.
One of my Great Great Great Grandfathers was on the skirmish line with the 63rd Pennsylvania on July 2nd from sunup to about 5pm. His Regiment was spared the horrific losses the rest of the brigade suffered when they were attacked by Barksdale's Brigade.

My cousin Martin Sebastian was a private in the North Carolina 52nd Infantry, F Co. He was wounded and captured at Gettysburg. Went to Pt. Lookout prison. After the War, he "headed West" and became a cowboy. Let us never forget what our ancestors went through.
This walking tour was really well done. My GGGrandfather fought under Gen Heth. I have visited the battlefield a dozen or more times. This walk along High Street added another dimension to my interest in the battle. Thank you for your love of history.
My great grandpa was with the 5th Maine (Steven's Battery), and it's so great to hear the battery being mentioned so much! Wishing I could be there for the 160th, but definitely there in spirit. Thank you for sharing this history with us!
This is a tradition for me now, I watch and enjoy these anniversaries of Gettysburg. Thank you and keep up the good work for education
Great Video with lots of Info on the Town that we never knew about.....Thanks
Followed your tour using Google Earth. Outstanding!!
2 fantastic historians!

I really need to visit Gettysburg. This video is showing history that I never knew. I never knew that the town of Gettysburg was this large.

You all are the best. I've been to Gettysburg many times and learn more every visit. I'm also a member of the Battlefield Trust. Thankyou to everyone for the informative and delightful learning experience. Greetings from Columbus OH
I really appreciate all these guys. I visited first battle of Bull Run site in 1972 and have been hooked on Civil War history ever since. Went to the 125th reenactment of that battle in 1986. So powerful when you see that
Starting 160 strong! Thank you for the local history, historic photos, and showing all the beautiful, historic downtown buildings. Safe travels to all of you throughout 160.
i have looked at alot of old photos over the years, family pics, when i saw a up close photo of that one female civilian death of gettysburg, the photo kinda sucked me in, i locked eyes with her for a while.kind of hard to describe ,felt weird but not bad.almost in a trance.
I’ve been down that alley a few times but never realized the importance of the location. Many thanks!
Watching from Scottsdale, AZ.
I never tire of any of these stories....at this point I am almost ready to take a battlefield guide test. :)
Fantastic! I love learning about the fighting in town.
Was just up to Gettysburg from NC this past week and overwhelmed by the history. Can’t wait to come back. Thank you for all these informative and moving posts.
I really appreciate your inclusion of unknown facts concerning the battle especially details like the Georgia major buried there and that Jenny Wade was also in that cemetery. Details like this bring the everyday human stories that would be lost. There was more going on besides the battle.
There are some great stories from the residents that stayed home during the fighting.
Such great stuff!! I was in the 125 anniversary Nov. 19th parade and celebrations with Company E 20th Maine reenacting unit. Time does fly by!
Playing catch up on many 160th content on here. Outstanding job fellas. Wish I could have been there for this but went last week since knew I couldn't. Can't wait to watch the rest of the 3 days content.
I wanted to be there for the 150 and 160 anniversary and I missed both. Hopefully I can make the 165th. I spent a great deal of time in Gettysburg and other battle sights in the USA since I was a child in the early 60s. My father, a career military man and historian, would bring us to all the US revolutionary and civil war battlefields to teach us history.
It’s a moving experience to visit Gettysburg

I thought I knew it all when we went. Discovered I knew very little. Hiring a licensed guide is money well spent.
A very informative video about what took place during the battles there. I enjoyed seeing the old black and white photos, and other fascinating facts about the town of Gettysburg. Also some of the history before the civil war and after is explained.
Gary and other guides. Good job! we enjoyed you making this history come alive!
Awesome stream, guys, will hopefully see you on the battlefield!❤
Wonderful tour folks! You really made the town come alive.
Going to visit the battlefield next month.
My Great Granpappy Jeremiah Jones was in the drum Corp. He played the triangle.😊
My daughter and I go up every 4th of July. Plan to be there Tuesday again.
Hi guys ...watching from Ireland .Hope to visit Gettysburg some day soon! 💚
I just left Gettysburg after being in the reenactment. I saw all kinds of ABT people walking around the battlefields. Thank you guys for what you do.
Pronunciation of the name is one of the most contested and argumentative points, more so than some of the things that took place during the battle. I have talked to residents of the town, whose families and ancestors date back to the 1800s. They pronounced it both ways.
Great journey in time
Outstanding work 👏🇮🇲
Amazing tour!! Thanks to you all!
Thank you ABT for these great films. Thank you Gary, Kris and others for making these great.
Thank you so much for all of your hard work this weekend & all that led up to it. I am so appreciative (and loving!!!) your streams right now. I was unable to get the weekend off of work to attend, so I'm that much more excited to see this from the comfort of my desk!

My 2nd GGF, Charles Hunt, 9th NY Calvary, fought against my cousin, Gen. R. E. Lee. For me, it truly was a family feud.
This is awesome! I was there this past week and walked in those very areas. What a great place and incredible recollection of these little known historical places. I visited the Beyond the Battlefield Museum and couldn’t be more impressed. As an aside I actually ran into Tim Smith outside Sweeney Tavern. What a great brush with greatness. 🤣🤣🤣. Thanks for all y’all do! Can’t wait to come back.
Cool Tim mentioned my great great great grandpappys unit the Luisiana Tigers!

Fabulous! Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this great educational video! I can’t help but feel very sad for what took place. Very very costly war.

Singing girls...40 yr. Anniversary...wow💞
Congrats on the much improved "production" of these live events. I wonder if you could add a live compass rose to the "shot" (there must be an app for that) to help orient the viewer as the camera pans?
Another amazing video more in depth into the town as we all love to see, is there any chance we can get into the interactive videos again that show the pictures and the guides interacting in real time?
That kid running up and down the street breaking windows with rocks knew he had the whole Confederate Army watching his back . LOL .
“They will attack you in the morning and they will come booming- skirmishers three deep. You will have to fight like the Devil until support arrives “General John Buford June 30 1863
When Tim Smith is involved, just press record and follow. No need to talk further. He’s like Gerrison Keillor talking about the news from lake woebegone but on a very active terrifying week in 1863
Jacob Ira was the son of Levi Mumper! Levi and William H. Mumper were 2nd cousin of my direct CW ancestor Pvt. Andrew Jackson Mumper, Co. F 208th PVI

I keep hearing that this is not the original Lutheran Church. Meaning the original was torn down then down a rebuilt from scratch. But if you do a 'then and now' comparison of the western side of the church-it's clearly not the case.
Just curious. Are there still opportunities to acquire and remove modern buildings to restore the land to its 1863 status?

Tim Smith? The best! Can’t be his real name, though.
I really doubt that there was that many Nissans during the battle
Sound does not match up with the film.
We love these guys and give financial support. They lose a good portion of viewers attention by not keeping it clear who’s confederate and who’s Union. Some of us know but many don’t and they are lost in the drama.
Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, such history a hospital and Confederates tried to get to the cupola?
Can you tell me something, you all act like the only battle was at Gettysburg,it wasn't it was 4 years of fighting but seems like all you all do is Gettysburg,I know it was a great battle but it wasn't the only one, just wondering

Not true. We have tour series from many areas of the country: www.youtube.com/@AmericanBattlefieldTrust/playlists?view=50&sort=dd&shelf_id=2
The proper pronunciation should be used! Otherwise, there's confusion with j. Paul and the like. My family has always used the proper pronunciation as the narrator states...
I believe you are wrong on your guess of the correct pronunciation of Gettysburg. Gett Tees Burg is the way we say it here in surrounding Pennsylvania communities (including the life long town folk of Gettysburg.) I believe your 1st guest, Tim, pronounced the town "Gett Tees Burg" or is he incorrect too. ... So, leave the the correct pronunciation to the Pennsylvania locals and you try to concentrate on learning how to properly maintain and groom a manly beard ... and perhaps lose the $9 souvenir hat.
She needed the dough.......cool.
Like last year I can see this year's anniversary video series will be mediocre at best. They seem to be fascinated with the town and civilians for some reason. My idea would be to talk about the actual battle, men, officers, strategy. I mean it us the anniversary of the actual battle, not a town hall meeting.
