Battle of the Track Cleaners

In this video i put 3 of the track cleaners that are available to buy on the market and the ones i own to the test to see which one is best as they go head to head in this video
There are other track cleaners on the market but i don't own those and i wasn't going to go out and buy the others just for the sake of comparing to the ones i already have. So this video i cover 3 of them because these are the ones i own and it makes a change to do something different
All views and opinions expressed in this video are entirely those of my own and are based on my own experiences

All you are doing by adding weight to the Hornby unit, is adding weight to the axles. Take the roof of the unit and you will find you can ajust the spring downward pressure. Changing the subject - are you related to Kevin Turvey? (played by Rick Mayall) because you sound just like him. ha ha.

The added weight to that hornby wagon isn't doing anything. Because the pads are sprung you need to add weight to the actual pads themselves

One of the advantages of the Noch cleaning pads is you can put a couple of drops of track cleaning fluid on the pads.

The new Dapol one looks good but the price of £80 and above is prohibitive.

Unfair testing all round you only did finger test in Hornby coach and as for the extra weight that will do nothing at all because of the spring pushing the pads down won’t take the extra weight so the wheels have extra weight to carry for now reason, do yourself a favour and buy the cmx track cleaner I’ve got one and they trump all these which all they will do is move dirt around and leave bits of rubber on the sleepers, your entitled to your opinion and I’ve shared mine it’s what make this hobby interesting because we all have different ideas on how to do things but please if your going to compare items at least make it seem fair and show each item in the same way as per example the finger test you did on the Hornby coach

Put weights on the pad that goes on the track, won't do anything if it's on the car

The Hornby coach doesn't collect dirt. The strips are fine sandpaper and act like the track rubber. I'm still using the old Tri-ang track cleaning wagons and the Gaugemaster HF2 devices.

I have a couple of hornby track cleaners, and a gaugemaster track cleaner. My locos will not pull the gaugemaster one. I've even tried double heading, and they still struggle!

Missing are, Roco railcleaning wagon, the different Lux railcleaning wagons and the Märklin railcleaning wagons. So the comparing are only yours and a little bit only Britisch!

Excellent video Peter regarding a subject most others don't seem to bother with. Like you i think the Gaugemaster track cleaner is the best by far. Thanks for sharing. Keep safe and take care, regards Gary.

Even though you have weight in the bogie wagon, most of it is only acting on the axles, since the weights are basically rolling around the axles. You need to add weight to the actual upper sides of the rotating pad attachments.

Just purchased one of the gaugemaster wagons but so far haven't managed to run it at all, the problem I've got is the glue on the bottom has already dried out and the black clips have dropped off the bottom, have you had any experience of this and could recommend a fix/recommended glue to fix?

That was some dirty track. You might consider wearing out those track rubbers sooner.
