Those Oathmark bronze-age swords look like gladii because they're Hallstatt-culture swords. The Hallstatt culture were the precursors of La Tène celt-iberians. And the romans (or arguably their etruscan predecessors) got the gladius from adopting the celtiberian "kledios" sword in the early Iron Age. Oathmark skeletons even have proto-celtic ceremonial "horned" bronze helms; even though those were ceremonial and probably not intended for battle.

It makes sense for a skeleton to be wearing a ceremonial helmet though doesn't it they were probably buried in it

Yeah, I was going to make the burrial comment too.

Bought two boxes of GW's skeletons to mix parts with two boxes of Oathmark ones. Love that they're both pre-medieval and it'll give two blocks of 40 for half the price of going full GW. Love that little pseudo-champion dual-wielding guy you put together; might have to steal that idea.

I just ordered the Oathmark ones, and you hit the nail on the head; they’re universal. Theyre gonna have use for just about any fantasy tabletop game. Plus theyre high quality and cheap!

I am currently kit bashing the oath mark kit with the gw Skeleton warrior kit and they go together seamlessly.

Oathmark won.

Thank you. I have units of both. The parts interchange well, but in my view the Atlantic feel more solid and the Oathmark limbs feel very fragile for extensive tabletop gaming.

Curious how well they kitbash with the wargames factory ones because they also had the greek Jason and the argonauts look

I really dig the Harryhausen vibes of the WA skeletons, but the weapon selection on the Oathmark is much nicer. hmm. Maybe a box of WA ones and a sprue of Oathmark for variety

That's the way to do it!

I think you could stick the limbs and head onto some living model bodies, to make it look like they're undead versions of normal units. You couldn't do it the other way around, though.

For me, the problem of Wargames Atlantic skeletons is the head size.

These seem perfect for some jason and the Argonauts type shenanigans.

Gotta check out if the split legs WA figure would let you horse it.

Thanks for the comparison. The oathmark skeletons are supposed to be designed after bronze age celts actually, to inspire the "ancient" feeling in comparison to the humans of that line

yeah i forget where i saw that mentioned but i was gonna say the same thing. they were explained as bronze age north europe to me, if u saw someone who made them say celts specifically then there ya go

I've been planning on getting wargames atlantic skeletons cause they're cheap, but they have a disappointing 8 bowmen options, wherein I need 10. So I changed my mind in getting oathmark skeletons, plus they got free square bases.

The spears with two points are a standard Ancient Greek weapon - if your spear gets chopped up, you still have a short and stabby stick. The sword is a Kopys.

Another interesting compatibility question is with GW parts, how about old arms from the classic fantasy skeletons? And would the skulls from the big box of skulls gw put out work for alternate heads?

I don't have any of the older skeletons, but now that you mention it I may have some Grave Guard bits. Plus I do have that box of skulls... I hadn't even thought of that! To the bits boxes!

Yeah, I figure that the only real variable in fitting skeleton parts together (if you cut them up in to small enough bit) will be the actual scale/size of the parts... And the more sources of variation the better :-)

It depends on which era from GW. 5-6th ed WFB will have cartoon style hands and weapons. Those minis will not mix.

Looks like a "do you want undead Greeks or undead Celts" question. The Atlantic ones are interesting, as they give me a Battle Brothers vibe, but I think the more skulls of the Oathmark (if I buy just one sprue) is tempting for Frostgrave 2e animate skull spell.

I have had the idea of mixing both and saying they were enemies on past times but have been brought back to life as war slaves for a necromancer

Gladiai? telling me you dont know history without telling me you dont know history xD these are the shape of classic Irish/scottish/english Celtic Bronze swords

The Atlantic skeletons are bigger but it would be cool to think that they were a different race. Like the Oathmark skeletons are humans in their past life and the Atlantic skeletons were maybe orcs or maybe elves. You know what I'm getting at bring some lore into your army or any game.

Ok so I was just looking at the 2 kits and in the oathmark kit you're given a total of 66 heads and only 30 bodies so if you kitbash that kit with the 32 wargames atlantic skeletons you'll have plenty smaller skulls for all of em and the attachment point is nearly identical on both kits

That longer lance is actually a sarrissa, the long 2 handed spear the Macedonians used as opposed to the shorter spears (Dorys) that the classical Greek hoplites used.

I thought the sarissa were those massively long spears they used in the phalanxes, no? Those are the number one reason I've stayed away from the Macedonians as I know I'm going to be snagging and breaking them nonstop!

Shouldn't the Oathmark ones be on square bases for the game....

If I was to actually use them for Oathmark, yeah. More than likely they'll be used in smaller scale skirmishes and most of my skirmish models get circle bases.

Updooting for more non-european skeletons! We need more diversity in our undead!
