Battle of the Ballpark and Action Near Intramuros During the Fall of Manila WW2 Combat Footage

Dramatic footage of US Army soldiers and their Filipino allies advancing on Intramuros. Also included are scenes from the "Battle of the Ballpark" as tanks and troops battle Japanese defenders in the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium during the battle for Manila, Philippine Islands, in late February of 1945.
Sorry about the fuzzy blob in the upper right corner of the video. I had to remove a watermark from the footage.
Intramuros
Also known as the "Walled City", construction of Intramuros was begun by the Spanish colonial government in the late 16th century to protect the city from foreign invaders. Photos and more information can be found here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intramuros
Rizal Stadium
The Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium is a baseball stadium located inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, Philippines. It has a seating capacity of 10,000.
The complex hosted the 10th Far Eastern Games in 1934, and baseball was a main event. Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth and Jimmy Foxx were part of an American All-Star team that participated in the competition with Gehrig and Ruth hitting the first and second home runs in these games.

Public domain footage from Combat Bulletin No. 45 produced by the US Army Signal Corps' Army Pictorial Service.

My grandfather Tech Sergeant U H Mitchell 5th Calvary 1st Cav division was in this particular battle at the Ballpark as well as the rest of Manila. These man who went through the island hopping campaign witnessed and endured some of the most horrific circumstances that any War has ever seen. They deserve a thanks and the respect that we cannot even contemplate

As a Canadian I traveled to Manila and many other parts of the Philippines Every part in the video I have been to And a few other areas of fighting. If you ever get to go to Philippines take the trip .. People are very friendly You will feel welcomed Go to Rizal park and while in the park head south east down to Memorial park And head up to Intramuros There you will see the old walls still littered with Cannon and bullet holes in the hundreds and thousands I have a picture of me standing at a gate and a before picture (1945) of a Sherman tank busting into the same gate I was told in the countryside Locals still know where WW2 aircraft are and still find relics of that time My Grandfather was apart of the Normandy landings Canadian Army 3rd div Gunner on a "priest" tank 105mm The only story he told my father was Once they were inland and driving not very far from the fighting They stopped and they ran out of the open box tank after seeing a German Panther tank swivel its turret at the side of them ...a few seconds later they see other Canadian troops around the tank Turns out they captured a damaged Panther and were inside trying to get it running again Dad's CO walked over and said : If you Assholes don't paint this thing with a union jack or hoist a flag on it I'll shoot you myself

Wrong Title. This battle was during the the Liberation of Manila, when US forces took Manila from the Japanese. The Fall of Manila is in 1942 when Manila was surenderred to the Japanese.
