This reminds me of something. The Swiss were doing their regular war games and they had invited a Prussian to come and see it. The Prussian jested to a Swiss corporal we have twice the number you have, what will you do if we come to invade? The corporal shrugged his shoulders and replied I guess i'll shoot twice.

I have heard that story; the reply I remember was that if a German Army invaded, "We'll each shoot twice and go home." While Hitler talked repeatedly of invading Switzerland, he had enough sense to realize the folly of such an invasion.

@@TheHighwayhoss Hitler would not invade Switzerland, because they owned his army`s gear... And also, because they were neutral- they were good place to store loot at- nobody from allies would attack them, to get spoils back, because that would look bad(i admit, i greatly simpify it)... Not because Germany was afraid... They literally marched to fuck with gigantic Russia, while they fought with England, and French and Polish restances... What would they be afraid of? Mountains? Norway has mountains- somehow didn`t stop Germans...

Yes, what makes them special is that even if the Swiss were always greatly outnumbered (except for the battles of Grandson, Morat and Frastanz) they managed to tilt the odds and defeat great armies while suffering very little casualities : Battle of Giornico 600 men defeated 10'000, Näfels 400 vs 6'500, Laupen 6'000 vs 16'000, Dornach 6'000 vs 16'000, Sempach 1'500 to 2'000 vs 4'000, Novara between 12'000 and 18'000 Swiss pikesmen vs 24'000 including bowmen and artillery.

When I was in college I observed a middle school literature class as part of my education minor (this was in the USA). In the class, they read a poem by James Montgomery called, "Make Way for Liberty." It talks about the Battle of Sempach. I don't know if the events described in the poem actually happened, but I'll never forget the significance of a small group of determined fighters prevailing against a larger and better equipped force. I'd love to see a video about Sempach. Link to a site that has the poem: www.bartleby.com/360/8/80.html

Not really. Milita would be anybody of free men... Hussars were basically knights- even though nobody used this title, when they first showed up in the form you are familiar with. And what is more, Hussars were elite even among nobility... I somehoew highly doubt either of those groups would like to be linked to each other. On one side you ahve people, who are basically told they are not good enough, hence they`d probably detest anybody from higher status, and prefer to be recognized through their merit, on the other you have noblemen, who are arrogant even toward lesser nobility... but were so badass, that anybody would forgive them :)

We are a small Country and not many are Interested in our history - but you are 😊 there are some other interesting battles. E.g. Näfels 1388 is an example for Never giving up until the very end. The Habsburgers Broke through the Wall By surprise that blocked The Valley of Glarus. Everything seemed lost and the Habsburgers began to loot. The Glarus troops climbed up the slope in desperation and attacked from above. The surprised Habsburgers couldn‘t retreat fast enough because of - the wall, and were beaten. This Battle is still being commemorated every year publicly.

the ch is still ruled by habsburg/rome, remember history is told by those with authority. not those committed to truth and honesty. the ch even became officially "neutral" during a congress on habsburg territory. because its easily defendable and elites wanted their resources protected and not raided during a war. just look where the most rothschild banks are located today, its their country according to presence. they finance terrorism, wars, .. and a few good causes for their image. im not saying this war here didnt happen, im just saying it probably isnt what official sources claim.

Badass, fearsome & indomitable fighting men nonetheless, from Morgarten till now! For back all throughout the 13, 14 & 15 hundreds the Swiss acquired this reputation of near invincibility on the battlefield, viewed as supermen by many, these fierce & amazingly disciplined soldiers whose legendary fame was unsurpassed in all of Europe, 2nd only to the Scots & Irish in terms of primeval ferocity, viciousness & feral combat prowess, along with certain Serbian, Croatian & Bosnian fighting formations as well ((with the Irish & Scots being more or less these savage & primitive tribal types, & often lacking the discipline, cohesion, conventional standards, modern weapons, armor & nationalistic unity of just about all other Europeans for centuries, up until at least the middle 1600's))👊👊👍👍 You Swiss were the first to show all the rest of Europe's serf/peasant/middle classes how to fight back effectively against the well armed, thoroughly trained, dangerously professional, superbly equipped & finely armoured armies of the avaricious, power hungry, pompous & demeaning aristocratic nobility of that time, which had been running roughshod over everyone else, SAVE THOSE dwelling on the very outer fringes of mainstream European Society (((again, the Irish, Scots, Serbs & Croats, including the Finns up North, the Russian/Ukrainian Cossacks roaming the Steppes, the Polish/Lithuanian realms defended by their extremely formidable Winged Hussar heavy cavalry formations, & those light infantry fighters along the Spanish frontier, such as the Algomavers from Catalonia, ALL ferocious, viscerally inspired & die hard fringe elements who, to varying degrees & much like the mountainous Swiss, remained independent of & from much of the rest of European Society for generations & centuries, such was both their geographic isolation & deep sense of fierce independence that allowed that collection of warrior driven cultures to maintain this autonomy/semi-autonomy from outsiders, for ages, off & on YET still largely independent/self ruling👊👊👍👍))).
