One battle among many in a tragically ran war. DC calling the shots of how to fight ultimately led to that 10 year disaster.

The lack of willingness of the Vietnamese people to fight was stunning in many ways. Our kids were drafted and sent there to fight for them and they had no draft that I know of, until 1975, after the communists took over? There have been many stories of their incompetence and willingness to allow US Marines, Soldiers, Navy to fight and die for them. I have also heard of extreme bravery on their part as well.

There are so many Marines is this battle that should have received metals. Just think about every Marine killed what hero's they were, and the majority were ignored, given only a purple heart. A purple heart is given for being wounded or killed and does not reflect the bravery they showed.

If the ARVN troops would have protected the "left" West flank, like they were supposed to have. There wouldn't have been nearly so many Marine deaths. In fact, the ARVN's had been to the West of Dai Do for many months prior to this battle and had to have known that the NVA were in those villages!! Of course, the "Coward" ARVN must have made some type of "ARRANGEMENT" with the NVA to "leave" each other alone !!

Yes, same in HUE. Inside the Citadel, arvn left their positions, without notifying A 1/5 before they jumped off. NVA we're waiting in arvn's abandoned pos. A 1/5 was roughed up so bad, it became ABC 1/5 by the time they secured.

Could you not advance towards the villages another way than across open fields like sitting ducks?
