If I may give some spark notes for the parts of this story: 0:10 - The americans had one tank at the castle, positioned at its entrance 0:23 - German Artillery disabled the tank, although the passenger was able to escape 0:28 - The allied German leader is killed by sniper fire 0:30 - A French POW tennis player sneaks out of the castle, and signals for reinforcements 0:34 - The Castles forces ran dangerously low on ammunition, and retreated inwards 0:36 - The French POW successfully signaled reinforcements, who were previously delayed by shell fire. The US reinforcements arrived, forcing the Germans to either flee or fall casualty. Exact numbers arent specific, but the only Allied fatality was the german leader, with 4 injured, while the german side suffered significantly more casualties, and 100 soldiers were captured.

Strange battle and after reading a bit more about it it's even weirder. The force that rescued/relieved the castle had in it a young french-canadian journalist, Rene Levesque, who would go on to become Premier of Quebec, and the #1 figure in Quebec nationalism/separatism. He alone recognized the dispatch from the castle because it was a French Tennis Celebrity and presumably, he was a fan of French Tennis.

@@Mackenzie002You don't get it. The battle was basically that American and German troops joined forces to go to castle itter and protect those elite French people who were either politicians or from an elite class family. The Germans asked for help from Americans that the small unit (I think as there were 150 nazis) WaffenSS assault groups from the Nazi army were going to capture and kill those French. The thing here is how did Americans and Germans allied to fight Nazi loyal Germans, who wanted to kill French elites. So much diversity and so weird 😅
