How to know if you have bats in your house? Join Tom Stuck from Advanced Wildlife Control as he shows us how to inspect your house for bats and how to effectively protect your house from bats.
Bats are amazing animals that play an important part in our environment. However, bats can find themselves in people's homes, particularly attics and chimney, where they don't always belong.

HOW TO INSPECT FOR BATS:
1. Inspect the Attic - look for areas of entry from the outside & signs of activity like bat droppings
BAT DROPPINGS
- look like long black grains of rice
- when touched, they break apart into a powdery substance
- found in piles compare to mice droppings which are usually scattered
2. Inspect the Exterior - look for gaps 1/4-in or bigger around the roof, fascias, & soffits (bats can wiggle themselves through very small openings)
HOW TO PROTECT HOME FROM BATS:
3. Install Bat Valve (allows bats to naturally & humanely leave, but prevents bats from re-entering)
4. Seal up all entry points with caulk
CLOSURE MATERIALS
- Caulk
- Backer Rod
- Bat Valve
5. Seal up all entry points inside, particularly vents or holes (with sealant & chicken wiring)
6. Clean-up Bat Guano with proper gear (mask, gloves, brush, & dustpan) - sweep, scrape, clean up, & spray with cleaner to kill bacteria & bat bugs
**IMPORTANT** (Bats should be removed humanely & professionally. Not only is it right to treat bats humanely, but it is the LAW)

Always spray the bat poo with disinfectant BEFORE you clean it up 1 in order to kill germs present to best of your ability before clean up, 2 so as the fine particulates do not dust up into the air and thus reduce the possibility of breathing 🫁 them in. I'm a wildlife consultant in Florida if you have any questions feel free to ask. 💪🤠🦇

What’s a good disinfectant to use? I’m renovating a house that had bats in the attic and I have removed the guano and ceiling along with the insulation. What’s the best way to disinfect the ceiling joist and get rid of the smell? Cheers

@@3n82 Honestly I would recommend hiring a professional company like mold restoration companies, or traumatic clean up company that deals with homes that have had traumatic events like death. Also there are large wildlife companies that do some of that. Get a quote and ideas of ways to approach it from from all of them. Otherwise I'm sure some ideas are a Google away.

Where were the bats? Shouldn't they have been visible inside the attic?

Sorry I missed your question but the price varies significantly on the amount of work that needs to be preformed, each home is a bit different.

God, and they are trying to charge me $1400 for this. Thinking about doing it myself.

Bat proofing is probably one of the trickiest things that we do, understanding how they get in and making sure they can all get out safely isnt easy, but if you have a good attention to detail and a solid understand of how homes are built you could potentially bat proof your home! There is a reason we give our customers a guarantee, its not as easy as it looks!!!

    $1,400 is reasonable.

@joshrankert811 I did it myself and it wasn't reasonable. Complete rip off. Charge me $125 just to come and walk around my yard. Didn't even go into the attic to look
