From director Zack Snyder comes Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, starring Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne and Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent in the characters' first big-screen pairing. Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City's own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis's most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it's ever known before.

    If I was Zod and I wanted to kill humans I would have made sure the fight stayed in the city. And that's what happened exactly. People assume because Superman is Superman he could have taken the fight outside of the city. Zod was just as strong and was technically a much more well trained fighter. The fact Superman won at all should be considered plot armor. Also people saying Superman killed those people....ummm hello he stopped Zod from literally killing every human alive.....and all the animals....and the plant life. Didn't see any humans able to stop them without Superman doing the heavy lifting.

    @NEP84 I agree with that. I mean sure in a perfect hero move if you want to call it that, the city would have been fine and no innocent lives lost. This movie showed a more realistic version in my opinion. Unfortunately sometimes in war or this case super hero fights bad things happen. The hero's don't always win with ease. It's a very complicated subject and this movie is in my opinion underrated because of this. Do we all wish Superman had won without trashing a city? Sure but that's not how it always works out. Plus from a pure movie perspective.....it was epic to watch the city get wrecked 😂

    -Many people laugh at the scene "Why did you say that name?" Although this scene was perfect because it embodies that Batman it also has mental deviation and has a childhood trauma due to the death of his parents and the name of Clark's mother worked as a trigger - I also liked the scene in the mountains where Superman came to talk to his father (in the director's version, they added a line there that he came to die in this place) because in fact Clark, after the terrorist attack in court, accepted Superman's death as a sim and an example for humanity because he let them down and did not save "Because I did not look" and was to pass away as a mere mortal (that's the problem), but after a nuclear projectile and "death", he is reborn back thanks to regeneration from the Sun - You might think that Lex went crazy after meeting Batman in the cell, but no, because he knows what's coming (and who will come among the stars ...) well, this is more in Snydercut

    It wasn’t that WW’s shield was made out of a strong metal, all of her gear was made by the Greek gods and are magical (magic being like Kryptonite in being able to hurt Kryptonians). I also loved Batman’s martial style. He is older and injured, so his moves are not as agile as his younger days. He relies on brute strength, viciousness and taking the hit as opposed to evading or parrying it. As an older and injured former martial artist, I liked that.

    Snyder made for me, not only of his best and most controversial film, but also one of my favorite films of all time; Deeply love this one (Ultimate Cut of course). Being released in a time where the general public and most of the critics only wanted jokes and action in super hero movies, Snyder delivered something more sober and serious, with a more realistic approach of how the world would react if we had almost godlike beings like Superman living among use. It's cool to see how the opinion of some people changed about this film over the last years, it makes me really glad that the vision that Snyder had for the DCEU is more appreciated nowadays than when this film was released. And even that time has been a little more kind, BvS still don't have the appreciation that it deserves, but I do believe this time will come.

    Superman can hear every human heartbeat on earth. The significance of the "Martha scene" not only because they have the same names, it's because even though Superman is facing death, he was worried about someone else's life and not his own, and that made Batman realize that he has become the monsters he battles every night. And the metal your thinking of is the Nth metal.

Now Matt Reeve's work. DC rules! And this version of BVS should really be the only version. It's one of my favorite movies. Many people didn’t like this version of Batman or Superman, but imo they’re one of my favs. This a take on an older broken and battered Bruce from The Dark Knight returns comics, which I personally enjoy. I like seeing characters that we know to be a certain way, like Batman and Superman, show a little more humanity or Inner turmoil; In the sense of how hard it is to be a “hero” or a symbol of good all the time. How it can break down a character or person emotionally and mentally. To me it’s something that made me relate with these characters more. Anyone who’s tried to be a good person in life but can’t catch a break or always seems to fall short, understands this feeling.

    A lot of people didn't appreciate *this* version of Batman, considering it was the first incarnation since The Dark Knight Trilogy, and was, in many ways, the antithesis of that version. But yeah, this was definitely based off the Frank Miller "Dark Knight Returns" version primarily, and was cool to see on screen. Batman is arguably the best part of this movie. That being said, I do wish that they had established the character in his own movie first *before* pairing him with Cavill's Superman in this movie. The movie, to me, is still a jumbled mess (yes, even the extended cut, which is a better version), juggling too much, without giving every character/plotline the proper time to gel, and get the audience invested in. Of Snyder's 3 entries to the DCEU, this is still my least favorite.

  • @-Antagonist

    @@thedefinitionisthis I get that, I think most people wanted that, but I think Snyder didn’t give us that bc he really wanted Batman’s story to be about redemption and going back to that version of Batman that we knew by the end, but I do get that people would of liked to see Batman before he became this version of him,I do think the studio had a lot to do with it tho. They wanted to play catch up with marvel instead of taking their time to establish their own world or characters properly, but I think we got the best we could have from that situation

  • @thedefinitionisthis

    @thedefinitionisthis

    @@-Antagonist Oh, the studio absolutely had to do with them rushing Batman and Superman on-screen together. Given the hints of Batman's pre-MOS career (ie. Death of Robin, his dialogue about "how many of us stay good?"), I would've LOVED to have a seen a movie that delved into why he became jaded, and more brutal. I do think the criticism of him killing was a bit unwarranted. Considering how many people LOVE MIchael Keaton's Batman; his Batman straight murdered a lot of people (in one case, with a smile on his face). And yet he's still considered the GOAT in some circles. So to see Affleck's version be criticized for killing (and in fact, making it a plot point), I thought was unfair. That being said, this particular movie does well enough establishing what *this* Batman is all about. I just think it (as well as Superman's own storyline) would've been more effective as separate movies, as opposed to be shoehorned in one.

That was the moment that Batman realized that deep down, under all that invincibility and power, Clark was also as much of a human as anyone. He had a mother, just like himself, and he was trying to do everything he could to save his family. That’s why Batman threw away the spear and decided to help Sups out instead; because he realized what he thought of Superman was all wrong, that he was a “human” in nature after all

Zod was too strong to be overpowered in that way and he had made it clear that he wanted to kill as many people as he could so Superman wasn’t going to be able to lure him out. There's more to it than just their mom's having the same name. The name was just a trigger. As far as Bruce knew Superman was using a mind trick, that's why yells "Why did you say that name?". Throughout the movie he has described Superman as an alien, and a threat. And despite being a detective, he never even bothered to learn his true identity. He was literally dehumanizing Clark to make it easier for himself to kill Superman. It's not until Superman [basically] says; 'Fine, if you're gonna kill me, at least do this one thing and save this woman named Martha', and that Lois reveals that he HAS a mother, that Superman becomes a real person with real parents... like himself. Suddenly Bruce realizes that he became the thing that tore his own family apart, and he comes to his senses. That's when the blind hatred for Superman goes away, and he promises to save Martha to make up for what he did. Also, on a sidenote: There's a reason this Batman kills. This version of Batman was one who was on his way to become a super-villian, like in many of the Else-World comics. One who was pushed beyond his limits. Superman's sacrifice saved him from going down that path.

    In January of this year the Tonga volcano erupted, the blast was heard as far away as Anchorage, Alaska. When Lex Luthor discovered Aquaman the information displayed on the research submarine camera showed they’re location was at the Tonga trench. And at the end of the movie Superman yells so loud it’s heard around the world. And in Allstar Superman there’s an arm wrestling match between Samson, Hercules and Superman that takes place on a volcanic island shaped a lot like the Tonga volcano. And the match ends with a massive mushroom cloud as Superman defeats the two challengers at once. I think that’s up there with some of the Simpsons predictions.

Doomsday in this movie is a different Doomsday according to Zack Snyder. The real Doomsday is out there. Although this is a different Doomsday, the impact of the iconic death of Superman has already been done, so I don't really know why or how Zack is going to use Doomsday in his Snyderverse(or he never will). Just a random information from Snyderverse I guess.

    Given that this was supposed to be a 5 film arc, Zack Snyder wanted to set a foundation early as to how the characters would eventually become the characters we know them as. Superman does not kill, yes that's true, but Znyder AND Cavill said that killing zod was the reason superman would go on to never kill again. Because he remembers that pain and how traumatizing it was and uses that example why he would never do that again. Personally, I like that vs just having a boy scout hero who's always been a goodie goodie for no reason. As for batman, people wanna complain that he kills too much but forget this version of batman is well beyond the reasonable stage we see so often. He's off the hinges after fighting crime for 30 years, and seeing his companion Robin get killed. There's always a reason with these characters as to how they are and where they will go. This movie was too deep for some people.
