I think with the remastered audio, it's well worth the upgrade. The HDR really helps the color and deep blacks, it's a fantastic transfer IMO - best the film is ever going to look.

Awesome video Mike and I’m really looking forward to getting to this film in my Batman Animation Series Blu-Ray boxset; also great they chucked in a comic rendition of the film aswell; maybe a few art cards be nice aswell; but still looks like a great release and I’m absolutely loving the Animation series mate 😀🙌🍿🦇🎶 Would love to see a Batman film ranking from you one day 😊👍

Im in a little confused....so you have choices to get the basic 4k or the steelbook?

At the moment it's just the steelbook that has been released, but the standard edition is coming at the end of September.

You definitely should feel a sense of grain. They did a really skillful DNR job on all these releases, but pre-Justice League TAS stuff was pretty much all done on film for DC animation.

Most people are saying this is most probably the best movie in the whole series inc live movies. Script/score/plot/etc

Im about to watch it on my oled on the HBO max app, would you say it will run the same or is the 4k worth the 30?

I would imagine they will be very similar, but there will probably be some compression because it is streaming. The 4K disc will technically be better, but visually the two should be almost identical. I'm sure it'll look fantastic with the OLED.

Got mines yesterday. Have to say I'm well impressed with the 4K Remaster. Visually It's leaps and bounds above the blu ray release from a few years back. The Blu ray release annoyed me to no end. I've always felt it was a bit on the bright side from how I remember it. One notable thing that I will point out is the new 5.1 track. Not the best when it comes to the phone call between Batman and The Joker. The Joker's laugh seems to trail in an odd way. it's like they added an extra bit of the laugh to the original track. Folks watch this one using the original 2.0 track it's a more natural and better experience. Sadly again feel short changed when it comes to the features. They could've at least hunt out some archive footage and a commentary track. Nice tribute to Kevin Conroy though. Packaging wise. Not a big fan of the new front Artwork, and the inner artwork used. The comic book is a throw away as far as I'm concerned. I've owned the original press for donkeys. Shame it couldn't have been liner production notes like Arrow video with pics of behind the scenes etc. Main Menu is smooth and easy to navigate through. It plays the Main theme. Nice touch that I like is how they've used the same font as the End Credits. Well hopefully now Subzero isn't far from the same 4K treatment. Phantasm sold out in the matter of a fortnight on HMV. Then all being well the Series will follow in 2025.

Good point about the audio. I can imagine the 2.0 track is much more in keeping with the original format. I agree about the lack of special features, it's a shame. The comic is cool, but like you say, a bit of a throwaway item. I do wonder whether Warner Bros. would bother with a 4K of Sub-Zero, as that one was just a straight-to-video release. But it would be nice if they did. Thanks for watching! 👍
