thegooseman90 I like Katie Holmes much better than Maggie Gyllenhal just like how they replace Terrence Howard to Don Cheadle from Iron Man 2. I found her more interesting & her character is at least strong from the first film to me. She's not that good at acting for other moments sure but at least she looks more like a woman. I like the way she talks about Harmony is Peace & Revenge is Better, giving Bruce the advice of something what's right & he did. Then takes that advice from part of his alter ego *Batman* If you don't agree to what I just said right now then good for you but im here just to share my opinion to you. If I like something they like I agree on that but if I don't like something they like then I don't.

That would've awesome to see. I think Katie would've shown more of the vulnerability/resilience that Rachel has in that scene than Maggie did.

Katie had a cuteness about her that Maggie didn’t in Dark Knight. Maggie just looks too rough to have powerful men be head over heels for her.

She chose not to return because her performance was panned by critics

She didn't reprise the role because she wanted to do a different movie: 'Mad Money' which didn't make much in the Box Office. If only she'd know what 'The Dark Knight' would be. Now Maggie Gyllenhal may not be "beautiful" but it's not who you are [underneath] but what you do that defines you.

I enjoyed Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes much more than Maggie Gyllenhaal. Gyllenhaal has given breathtaking performances in other films, in my opinion, but I wasn't thrilled over her acting in The Dark Knight. I read that Christopher Nolan offered Holmes the chance to reprise her role as Rachel Dawes in Dark Knight, but she TURNED HIM DOWN to star in a stupid, forgotten, throw-away comedy with Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah called Mad Money. Her agent must've begged her to take TDK role instead.

Wasn't the only reason she declined. Her performance in Batman Begins was the only thing which received negative reviews, everyone else got great reviews.

maggie was fine, but man i wish katie continued her take on rachel in the last 2 films. is tom to blame?

What a bummer. The only thing really "wrong" with TDK was dropping the continuity from the last film. Not only that, but I actually really though Holmes was good in Begins. She was likable and more than solid in terms of a secondary character.

I can just picture Tom telling Katie: "No, don't pick the Dark Knight. In Mad Money you have the opportunity to show your comedic side." Meanwhile, its her 'scientological' role to have a career that may not possibly outshine Tom's.

ive been a big fan of katies acting ever since i saw this movie when i was a little kid.

I really love Maggie, as well as Katie, but.. I can't imagine why Katie'd ever WANT TO turn down the Dark Knight. I mean, the way she's talking about Batman Begins, the enthusiasm.. No idea why she really turned it down, but I really don't think she did it because she didn't want the role.

It was Holmes who had signed on to do another movie when the time to shoot The Dark Knight came around

She got panned for her performance, yet this is probably the only film she'll ever truly be known for

EventuallyWeMerge Maggie said in an interview that even tough she "loved" how Katie played the part, she tried to make some sort of "New Character" on her own, which was understandable. I was so pissed and mad at Katie for turning down the role. I wanted so hard to see her reprise her role. Maggie even said that when she read the script tney gave her, Nolan told her that her character wasn't fully written, maybe because they really thought Katie would reprise her role... God! I'm so mad she didn't reprise the role!

Ok if you say so, as if Maggie would be arguing with a bunch of haters on KZread. And you should check Maggies Wikipedia page of all of the highly critical acclaimed films she's appeared in. They even used her picture as Rachel Dawes in The Dark Night Rises.

she wasn't bad in batman begins, she's a good actress, the script for her was a bit shit, she sounded cliche, it was also abit shit for bruce wayne. In dark knight there was a big improvement in script and magfie gyllenhaal seemed better because there was more range in that movie. in batman begins rachel is always like a damsel in distress looking for a lover. Would've liked to see what katie holmes would have done in TDK.

Maybe they could've waited until Katie was done with Mad Money to start working on the Dark Knight. And if Katie did agree to reprise her role, and was given more screen time with Christian Bale, she most certainly would've been better than Maggie.

Maggie was just doing what the script told her to do. I'm sure it would've still came off that way even if Katie Holmes did play Rachel in The Dark Knight. Due to the script that they were given.

Luke M I personally think it was the character developement. In Batman Begins she didn't had much to do or add the main storyline. In The Dark Knight she was vital for the entire movie. I think that if Katie reprised her role in The Dark Knight she would have had a lot more to do. She did a good job considering what they gave her to do.
