Automobile Enthusiast Fact: The Batmobile was built on the chassis of a Chevy Impala, and incorporated the engine of an Impala, the tail lights of a Ferrari, the fuel caps of a London bus, and jet engine parts from a Harrier Jump Jet. Art director Terry Ackland-Snow added the headlights of a Honda Civic to the vehicle after noticing them on his wife's car. Lost In Adaptation Fact: The name of the Joker's alter ego, Jack Napier, was created by the filmmakers. In the comics, the Joker was never given a real name (his anonymous status is often crucial to the plot) and whatever real name he has is yet to be definitively revealed. The name Jack Napier is intended to be a play on the word "jackanapes" (a medieval English term for a foolish fellow who resembles an ape) as well as a reference to Alan Napier, who played Alfred in the television show Batman (1966). Practical Make-Up Effect Fact: In the film, the Joker has to mask his chalk-white face by painting himself flesh-colored. In the script, it was specified that the Joker would have to take the flesh-colored make-up off to reveal the white skin underneath, meaning that the make-up effects team had to find a way to take one layer of make-up off and leave another intact. Make-up designer Nick Dudman came up with the solution: they painted Jack Nicholson with the white PAX paint that they always used, and then put a thin layer of food-grade silicon oil, which nothing sticks to, on top of it. They then took flesh-colored greasepaint and painstakingly painted it to where it was literally sitting on top of the oils. They then airbrushed and faded it in to make it look natural. After soaking the Joker's handkerchief in isopropyl alcohol, Nicholson was able to wipe at his face and it would strip off the greasepaint, but leave the white PAX paint intact.

Actually Jack was always who they wanted but he was back and forth but to finally convince him he got a percentage of the box office. Sean young had a horseback incident which was meant to be in the movie. She tried to get the catwoman part in returns believing it was owed to her but tim Burton ignored her

That info about Joker’s makeup is pretty damn awesome. I love finding out about the hard work and thought that makes these movies so great.

Keaton is the best Batman. Affleck is a very close second. And it's bittersweet that the last time we'll see either of them is in the Flash movie.

Jack Palance (Grissom) was a veteran Hollywood character actor who appeared in many Westerns in the 60s and 70s. In the 80s, though, a new generation knew him mainly as the host of 'Ripley's Believe It Or Not,' where his breathy, dramatic delivery was calculated to add a mysterious note. It became his trademark, which he included as part of the Grissom character.

I grew up on this film and still love it! You're right that was Prince. The whole soundtrack was prince. Danny Elfman did the score. He is an incredible composer and frequently collabs with Tim Burton and it's always an incredible mix. Edward Scissorhands being a perfect example. Great reaction

I love how chilled back Micheal Keaton is as Bruce lol it’s jsut fun to see and this movie really reminded me of the animated series, the music & everything is great. & I love the dark knight trilogy a lot & Micheal Keatons Batman films

As far as origin stories go, I never understood why a rich guy would be walking down an alley ( known as crime alley) at night with his family when you have a butler who can pick you up and take you back home safely. That being said, I thought this movie was great , it's kind of a masterpiece actually, I remember the first time seeing it, and it's still easily one of the best Batman films ever.

In the comics, The Joker's exact origin is a mystery, barring that Batman was somehow involved. His origin elaborated in one of the greatest Batman stories of all time called Batman The Killing Joke where it is revealed that once he had been a failed stand-up comedian who worked night shifts at Ace Chemicals in a feeble attempt to support his sickly wife and their unborn child. They died just before the night that he helped a gang of thieves break into the Ace Chemicals plant, disguised as the infamous criminal Red Hood. Batman interrupted the heist, resulting in the would-be criminal falling into a vat of unidentified chemicals. Washed out of the plant he removed his disguise to find that the chemicals had disfigured his entire body, giving him permanent chalk white skin, emerald green hair, blood red lips and his face a clown like appearance. Driven insane by this series of events he embraced it, believing that the greatest joke of all is that humanity is only "One Bad Day" away from total insanity. In that same story it is revealed that his "Bad Day" is a mystery to him as he doesn't exactly remember what happened to him or who he was (at least prior to him falling in a vat of chemicals) nor does he care to remember and says that if he were to have an origin story he prefers it to be multiple choice, indicating that everything we had read up to that point about his past might have been false. One the best traits of The Joker is that his origin is always supposed to be left ambiguous and forever partially unknown to the readers. He has no true alias. He has no family. He has no direct origin. He is a force of nature and all he desires is carnage and mayhem.

I see she was remembering the laughing from the animated series they couldn’t kill people so it just made them laugh consistently and uncontrollably…in the comics and movies they laughed until they died…which is the difference

"Ever dance with the devil by the pale moonlight?" is one of those movie lines that always sticks in your head. And it really feeds into the amount of insanity Jack Nicholson put into playing The Joker. On another note, I would really love to have a Lego set based on the 1989 Batmobile. I got the 1960s TV show Batmobile this past Christmas as a gift. I love it, but a movie Batmobile would look amazing in my collection too.

5:30 - It's not money laundering. The "sandwich cash" is a bribe to Detective Eckhart. 36:23 - Alfred didn't tell her; she put it all together and figured it out as she's an investigative journalist/photographer. 45:22 - The Joker has teeth. It was a gag as he's technically a clown who is supposed to do silly things but in this case, it was a distraction so he could sucker punch Bats (and unfortunately for him, did not work). If you want call a back to the silly 1960's Batman TV show, watch Batman Forever (1995) and Batman & Robin (1997).

My favorite Batman will always be Kevin Conroy he was and always will be Batman and when he passed away it felt like Batman passed away the thing about Kevin was not only did you love his Batman you loved him too because he was a golden human being we didn't just lose the definitive Batman but we lost a beautiful soul

Batman Returns is my favorite. It may not be the best "Batman Movie" in terms of fidelity to the source material, but I would argue is one of if not the best *movies* that just happens to have Batman in it

(12:07) his has become an iconic Batman movement. It was necessary because the costume used in this movie was made in one piece between the head, neck and shoulders (I don't know if it was latex, rubber or something else) and made the neck stiff and impossible for the actor to rotate. So Keaton was forced to turn around like that during filming. Another little tidbit regarding the Batman costume used in this movie: his ears were too long, making it impossible for him to get into the batmobile. They therefore had to use two different hood models with more or less long ears for when Batman is inside and outside the vehicle. I think this is the best Batman movie because, at least so far, every actor except Keaton has been an idiot playing Batman. He was the only one who made it believable (not to mention that Nicholson's acting alone is worth the whole movie and the soundtrack by the duo Prince for the soundtrack songs and Danny Elfman for the music score are TOP), at least until today. This movie is the one that is more "comic bookish" than the other movies and it gives me a closer experience of comics than other ones, so I prefer it. Last thing: if anyone is interested in buying the batmobile used in this movie it's for sale (or, at least, it was in January 2023, I don't know now).

This is my favourite Batman movie love the performances of jack and Michael love the supporting cast and I been on the set at pinewood studios it is spectacular.

Don't forget the two Joel Schumacher Batman films, "Batman Forever" and "Batman and Robin". They are TERRIBLE but they are in fact follow-ups to the Tim Burton films, even though they are completely different in style and tone. They take place in the same continuity as the Burton films but feature almost totally different casts (except for a couple of familiar faces).

This is actually my favorite Batman Movie i had it on 📼. I loved all 3 "Batman Returns" & "Batman Forever" i think you'll like them as well. My favorite Batman movie has and always will be the 1989 movie! As much as I love the other Batman films, live-action and/or animated (the best animated one I think is _Mask of the Phantasm_ from 1993), this movie I feel is one of the greatest adaptations of not just Batman but comic books as a whole. I might rank this with _Superman: The Movie_ from 1978 and _Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles_ from 1990 as three of my favorite comic book movies ever! I’ll never forget watching it the first time with my dad and being blown away by how the movie turned out, like it wasn’t like how the other Batman movies I saw were. Usually, I see modern superhero movies that try to pass themselves off as the quintessential versions of the superheroes but being very shiny and technologically-advanced, like the X-Men movies or Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy (no hate on them at all, I like them all just for what they are), and I didn’t mind too much that direction originally but after watching this Batman movie, it changed my outlook on superhero films entirely. Like I looked up a lot of debuts of superheroes and that they’re older than what I presumed they’d be. So now I think a contributing factor to make a definitive classic superhero movie adaptation is to set the movie’s time period into the era of when the superhero was introduced and I think this movie did an excellent job of that by encapsulating the feel and aesthetic of a 1939-1940 comic book movie but with a few sprinkles of 1980’s in there. I love how this movie has this experimental old-school yet slightly modernized execution like it’s still a classic ‘30’s-‘40’s-style movie like a noir film with practical effects but with some touches of ‘80’s updated features (kinda retro-futuristic in a way), how comic book-y it is like it has these amazingly cinematic panel-like shots, it’s fast-paced with nicely done slow moments and it’s serious but it never forgets to have a lot of fun with its story, the production design and the look of Gotham City… *chef’s kiss*… perfection and my favorite film version of Gotham City, and of course, this Batman flick is one of the most faithful interpretations of the characters because it got a lot of it’s execution from Batman issues that were published during a very important era: from the Golden Age of Comics or also known as the Bob Kane/Bill Finger run which was the original introductory era of Batman as a whole, as well as Batman comics around the time of the movie’s production like _The Killing Joke_ or Steve Englehart’s work. So in a way, the movie’s both a reestablishment of Batman’s original darker vigilante detective roots from the comics and a first-time establishment of it because it’s the first time Batman was portrayed as a dark superhero due to the 1960’s Adam West show being the most mainstream interpretation at the time. (Also, this movie was a heavy influence on the ever-amazing _Batman: The Animated Series_ from the 1990’s, so I have more to thank the movie) Plus, its not even my first Batman movie (that title belongs to _Batman and Robin_ from 1997, whoops) nor my first exposure to the Batman franchise (that’s _Lego Batman: The Video Game_ ). Finally, I’d say my definitive Batmen are Michael Keaton and Kevin Conroy (RIP) while Jack Nicholson and Mark Hamill as the Jokers for me!

Personal favourite Batman film is Mask of the Phantasm (1993) but live action it's hard to say as they all have pros and cons. Overall Batman Begins, Batman Returns, and The Batman are my favourites. This film pretty much reinvented the visual style and tone of Batman along with Gotham City. This series also heavily inspired the amazing Batman Animated Series from the 1990s and overall to this day Burton style has my favourite live action Gotham City. You're watch order sounds solid. Batman 89 (Watched) Batman Returns (Final appearance of Keaton's Batman) Man of Steel (Start of the DC Shared Universe) Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Follow up to Man of Steel) Zack Snyder's Justice League (The Avengers of the DCEU, Everything comes together) The Flash (Set after these films and will no doubt reference them) On the topic of Zack Snyder's Justice League I would recommend maybe editing it in parts as the film is 4h 2m. It's cut up into chapters so you can take breaks in between but it would be difficult to fit 4 hours into a single reaction. You also have stuff like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam, Black Adam, Suicide Squad, and the show Peacemaker but they don't really play into the events of Justice League so you can watch them after.

When Keaton was first announced to be Batman many hated the choice because he did comedic roles beforehand. I had complete trust in Tim Burton that he could do this after seeing Beetlejuice. After people saw the movie they loved him as Batman. Watch the Batman animated movies too Batman Mask of the Phantasm Batman Subzero Batman Year One Batman Under the Red Hood Batman Beyond Return of the Joker Superman Batman Public Enemies Superman Batman Apocalypse

When I I had heard Tim Burton had Directed this BUT he gave us a version NEVER seen on film before, and for the unfamiliar, it was an education, about the character. If you like these dark avenger type characters, you should watch- THE SHADOW with Alec Baldwin, who also came about in the...30s or earlier, a very underrated film set in the 40s (if you havent seen it already), the atmosphere/ feel of it is very similar

If you think Jack Nicholson is great then you will love Mark Hamill’s voice acting as the character. Yes Luke Skywalker voiced Joker.

Without doubt, my favourite Bat man film (in live action) is- BAT MAN BEGINS) the best more real World, Bat man were ever going to get & in my opinion better than the two sequels, also by the same Director. Here theyve tried all that they can to get it to step off the page, generally it has worked, the character reflects his environment well, with a...1930s industrial landscape, with many blind alleys, that he fits well into. I love also THE MASK OF PHANTASM cartoon version & the facinating atmospheric cartoon series also with it's cerreal art style as well.

OMG!, I had long since forgotten about this movie, it was released when I was 15 and still in high school; back then I used to fantasise about Vicky Vale giving me a Enema.

I'm a late '80s baby (im old :( ) and the Tim Burton Batmans were my favorite. Batman Begins (2005) is my favorite now.

Please tell me you'll also react to the animated Batman movies ( At least Batman Mask of the phantasm) it's so good and it's with Mark Hamill ( Luke Skywalker) as the Joker . His Joker voice and laugh is iconic

I watched the 1989 Batman movie at least it dozen times in 1989 at theaters. I wore out my VHS tape later on. I remember every sound effect and sound queue. The 4K version that is out now completely changes the sound effects, and even changes the overall color of the film. It is more teal looking now. Avoid the 4K.

If so, then I recommend a masterpiece of a crime thriller that’d be a lot of fun to see you watch “Cape Fear” (1991) This is a very strong and powerful film if you understand what I’m saying. With some very strong and powerful performances. I’m telling you, you will be blown away by this movie.

Okay. This film has NOTHING to do with The Flash. Michael Keaton reprising his role as Batman is the only connection. Batman Forever IS worth watching once at least and if you have not seen the Dark Knight Trilogy I cannot emphasize ENOUGH how much you should. What you should realize is that until Zack The Hack started directing DC movies NONE of the Previous Movies had ANY connection to Man of Steel and everything after until they DCEU was scrapped Joker also has no real connection either.

This is my 3rd favorite Batman movie after Dark Knight rises and the dark Knight

In terms of quality and definitiveness, only the Burton Batmans, the Nolan Batmans, the animated series, and the 2022 film are worthwhile. Everything else is skippable, if not terrible.
