folklore is one of her most lyrically heartbreaking albums of all time, if not her most. it's perfection.

folklore is the best album ever made, no questions asked. its beautiful and perfect and nostalgic and nothing can compare. if you hate Taylor Swift and haven't listened to folklore, you can't say you hate her until you've listened to this musical and lyrical masterpiece that I have memorized by heart.

Cardigan and My Tears Ricochet are simply the most beautiful songs ever. They're literally masterpieces. It's a story that you get involved into both of the perfectly, sad, beautiful and tragic lyrics and the addicting instrumentals/arrangements. And the normal effect of them is to you just to get extremely intrigued by all of that handsome sadness, and one of two options: you'll cry your soul out, or you gonna get on your knees and pray to these Gods in a song disguise.

It’s a great track to analyse and think about, but it’s hard to dissect on a first listen while you have the rest of the album which is a lot denser and nicer to listen to, while epiphany kinda just has a vibe that its almost an interlude track leading into betty. Also missing the grandfather/COVID connection does remove a lot of the track’s power, and it being so far after the latter’s biggest moments kinda loses the impact.

I think learning the lore behind each song (seven being about an alcoholic abusive father, the live triangle between Betty James and Inez (Cardigan, betty and August)) makes the album even more stunning.

‘The Bon Iver guy…’ 😂 If you haven’t already, listen to the album, ‘For Emma, Forever Ago.’ Then you’ll understand why he is such an inspiration to Taylor, and so many others. It has some similarities and similar feels to Folklore, but it’s also a complimentary opposite in that the lyrics are deliberately vague in paces, so they evoke general feeling, rather than pulling your focus towards specific experiences. It’s a masterpiece, as is Folklore, and I’m sure any Folklore fan will be enchanted to experience it.

fun fact, the three names used in betty (betty, inez, and james) are the names of blake lively and ryan reynolds daughters. tay is really good friends with their family. also, the kid voice in the beginning of taylors song "gorgeous" is the voice of their daughter james!

Epiphany is actually about Taylor's grandpa that served and about the healthcare workers that worked during COVID and how it's hard to talk about the things that those people saw. As a healthcare worker, it's a heartbreaking song!!

You’re so good at cutting out my favorite parts of every song 🥲

Fun fact: in invisible string, the last verse (now I send their babies presents) is actually referencing to Taylor giving a congratulatory gift to Joe Jonas, one of Taylor’s exes, welcoming a baby in 2020 with Sophie Turner.

I've always seen Peace as a song describing a person with mental health problems that is trying to say like "I can be a lot, but I will do my best". Especially when she says "would it be enough if I could never give you peace?"; when you have depression you always think about giving people "peace" and going away, so it really resonated with me in that sense. Like looking at the people you love and saying "is it enough if I don't want to go? If I don't WANT to give you peace" I don't know, as someone who has this type of problem, blaming myself is something I always do and I cried a lot listening and feeling this song

"a dwindling mercurial high" it means an unpredictably intense feeling that’s slowly going away... so like when the very happy feeling you get when you first fall in love stops being something that happens every time you see that person, or feels less intense when you do feel it. this is the reason why that is my most fav lyrics from the album

Betty is really knew everything when she was young, “I knew you’d miss me once the trill expired, and you’d be standing in my front porch light.” And James literally showed up at her party saying he misses her.

Illicit Affairs is honestly one of the best songs on the album and in her discography as a whole. In my eyes, I’ve always seen it as a sort of “this is what happens in secret relationships” instead of it being about cheating on a partner. Taylor captures the magic of the thrill you feel having to hide your love for the other person, and that “dwindling mercurial high” is likely the words “I love you” since they are “a drug that only works the first few hundred times.” Illicit affairs and clandestine meetings mean the same thing, it’s about meeting up in secret behind everyone else, and I’ve always found the song to kind of be very close to my heart for some reason. Like it hits home in no way any other songs on the album (save for 2 others: mirrorball and this is me trying) really do

That's exactly what I thought while listening

Peace is my favorite song. You hit the nail on the head with your interpretation. My favorite line "and you know that I'd swing with you for the fences, sit with you in the trenches. Give you my wild, give you a child. Give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other." Like that's truly what love is. Giving each other everything you have in the darkest of moments and also in the lightest. Choosing each other regardless of what comes your way. It's devastating to know that the person she felt this deeply for is no longer in her life. I hope she is doing okay.

Seeing the lightbulb go off at the cardigan line in Betty connecting the dots to Cardigan and August was PRICELESS
