Great review! I wish more companies will look to you to review their new gears. :)

It's happened plenty of times. I've done lots of theater work, shows where I have to switch between axes instantly... When you're a professional player, you have to do all sorts of things that are not typically encountered by others. This pedal has been VERY useful, especially when working with effects.
@BassWhispererTV12 жыл бұрын
@IndependentlyBlue - It's a buffered bypass. I think it has a beneficial effect on the tone. Listen to the sound in the DI section, first example is Channel B, bypass mode. It sounds awesome. I hear it through the amp too, it's a "sweet" tone - like it's been mastered.
@The1Kong12 жыл бұрын
It was way more fun watching the highly informative review you did on the Basswitch than watching the demos they broadcast on theyr website. Too much tech-talk. I loved your examples - and the sounds you had with the Basswitch. Killer tone with all basses, but I liked the JazzBass and the Juzek (?) best. Don't stop doing reviews on video! ;-)

I really like the sounds coming out of this box and I also could use it pretty good in a gig with my active Warwick and the passive Precision, but I think the knobs and buttons are hard to handle if you're in a top 40 band or something like that. So I would prefer the EBS Microbass or the David Eden Pedal Preamp.

Ed, I got the unit and used it at rehearsal last night with my Top40 dance band. Excellent sound!! Very natural sounding and doesn't alter the basic character of the bass. My one additional question is about the power supply. It doesn't come with one and I've had to resort to using my BOSS pedal 9V power cords (tried several), all of which have a loose fit on the IQ. They work but they feel like they're barely hanging on the IQ. Do you recommend a brand/model of power supply (cord) that has a more snug fit in the IQ? Thanks :-)

@fatmaru - I like them in theory, but have yet to find one that doesn't present some type of compromise. I've owned a few, but it's either the sound or feel that isn't quite right for my taste.
@LaurenceMollerup11 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ed, a very convincing review. Like you, I double a lot, and in some of the quieter new music or theatre settings, the "click" of the footswitch on my Radial Bassbone is annoying. Does this guy switch silently? (checks bank balance. . .) regards, Laurence

@giggs102 - Well, in some ways, the fact that it's in pedal form is misleading. Most people associate pedals with a certain price range... but this is a serious piece of gear. It's studio quality quiet, and tonally pristine. My first reaction was like yours, but after using it for a while, I don't think it's over priced. We have become accustomed to cheap products that look right, but don't sound good or last very long. This sounds great and is built to last.

@chhppx - This pedal is not a compressor.

Very helpful, Ed. A question: with Basswitch in Bypass, is it dead flat - 'straight wire' - or is there some degree of alteration/coloration of the bass signal?

Will the Basswitch also work as a headphone amp like some of the other Preamps???

Very nice video and introduction of this little gem. That is what happened if a Bass Player from Luxembourg, Jaques Ruppert always questioned his sound before this box, and a German sound engineer Burkhard Lehle famous for his high quality manufacturing get together to create this piece of a "must have" for a bass player. Anyway it doesn't really matter it is a great kit and worth the money the quality is stunning....just saying, I am saving already....

Hello Master Ed. Greetings from Venezuela.I could use your advice once again: I'm planning to buy the Genz Benz Shuttle STL9-0 Bass Amplifier after I saw your Review here in KZread. However, I'd like to know which of these Bass CAbinets would you recommend: Gallien-Krueger 410MBE 800W 410 Ultralight Bass Speaker Cabinet with Horn Black 8 Ohm OR Behringer ULTRABASS BB410 Bass Guitar Amplifier Cabinet - 4x10 inch, 1200 watts. Its because I'm on the 500$ budget. Or which other one you'd think.Thxs

@chhppx A compressor basically changes the level of the input signal to be closer to a predefined level, peaks will be less "peaky" and soft playing will be louder, a very useful tool for slapping, making sure you don't burn out speakers (limiters are compressors too), but they can also totally kill your playing dynamics if you don't use it with care. the basswitch... isnt a compressor.
@BassWhispererTV12 жыл бұрын

Ed, I was considering the smaller Classic Boost pedal for a passive jazz I own. I took another look at the IQ DI and am wondering whether my money, as a pro doubler, would be better spent on the IQ. My question however, is about sonic difference between the Classic or Clean Boost and the IQ. Does the IQ sound more like the Classic or Clean? The IQ seems to have much more flexibility with the parametric features. It makes more sense to drop more coin on the IQ.
@BassWhispererTV

Well.... I guess I would say the Clean Boost is closer to the IQ in terms of color... but if you're a doubler, you'll find the IQ is very handy. It's a full featured piece, where the Clean and Classic Boosts have a single function. But the Classic would sound sweet with that passive J!

Thanks Ed, That helps. I ordered the IQ. I've got 30 days to return it. If the sound isn't quite what I want, I'll return it for the Classic. This unit seems very useful. I'm sure I'll hang onto it.
