    Its fine to run new wires but D Amore and several other engineers have done real world testing. A stock 18 gauge speaker wire can handle up to 140-150 watts before any loss occurs. I like running new wires as well but with molex plugs being the norm now its really not worth it in most instances

    That is why I have used the stock wires for a decade.

    Not a problem keeping those extra wires you won’t need… like you said, if you cut em off you won’t be able to upgrade in the future. Besides…No one will see behind the dash anyway.

    Iv also got that same old Alpine head unit I really didn't care for it at first when I got it because the blue tooth would not always link and dope out. I had to do a manual soft ware up data . After that it was great had had any problems. Iv got at least 6 other Alpina decks. It's also actually not that hard getting a extra wire harness for a Alpine deck sense there almost all the same harness. Alpine uses the same style plug on multiple units. Your local audio shop should have one or be able to get one. Iv also seen them on ebay as well. If it turns out to be one that hard to find or get you could always depin the bad wire out from the harness connector, then use a good wire that been depin from a good different harness connector . So you able make one good one . Years ago it was difficult to find wiring harness for head units and it seemed like every one that was presented with to me either was missing it or the wire were cut really short. I always saved any and all harness that I came or come a cross and would repair other people harnesses from mine it was a easy 35$ easy money once you get the hang of switching out the wires from the connectos. 💯👍✌️😉

    The main harness seemed to be almost exactly like the one from the old radio, only difference is the fuse is on the wire instead of in the head unit.

    I think my alpine from 1998 sounded more full and amazing compared to my alpine 172bt. I swapped it out for a jvc 940. Jvc/Kenwood make the best radios in today's market. My opinion

    Hey buddy, good video as always. I found your channel recently and have been going through the content. Im probably about the same age as you and have been doing audio since the 90s. The car audio bug bit me again recently, so ive been looking at stuff for a couple of my vehicles. I have a couple of W12Gti MKII kicking around. I have a Crossfire which doesnt have much room in the back. I started debating doing two 12 sealed, one ported or two isobaric. Have you even messed with iso? I thought maybe that could make an interesting video. Doing a shootout with the same driver in all three box styles. Anyway, thanks for what you do, ill keep watching.

    Actually there is a Bluetooth wireless volume knob available for this head unit. Alpine RUX-H02. About $70 on Amazon buddy

    Correct, Alpine's business model seems to focus on selling add-ons and upgrades, like a module to switch between cameras.

    Oh...and make sure you update that ILX-507 or it is painful to use. Without the update, id say its borderline un-useable.

    Can you test the pre outs and internal amplifier on both of those units to see when they start clipping with an oscilloscope. I’ve always been curious to see if how old head units compare to new ones

  • @DIYAudioGuy

    @DIYAudioGuy

    I can test the preamp outputs, but now that the head unit is installed testing the speaker outputs is a bit of a hassle.

    @@DIYAudioGuy that’ll be awesome, I find it interesting to actual find clipping points and voltage on pre-outs instead of just using the 75% rule. Sometimes with that rule of thumb the head unit only puts out 1-2 volts instead of 4-5 volts that’s advertised

    What wire did you connect the park brake wire to ?

  • @DIYAudioGuy

    @DIYAudioGuy

    I used a parking brake bypass, there's a link to it in the video description. The bypass has three wires, one is a trigger that connects to the amp turn-on lead, a ground wire, and the third wire connects to the parking brake trigger.

    I have an idea for something... Do you think you could help me design an enclosure for something? Or, at least let me know if you think the idea is feasible/practical... Sorry, I don't have a lot hands on audio experience, just enough to make a mess. lol
