Bass Stuff: Unboxing the Harley Benton PB-20 SBK Standard Series Bass
Музыка
Looking for a budget bass with a great feel and sound? Check out the PB-20 SBK by Harley Benton, available from Thomann. In this video I unbox the brand new bass and do some quick sound checks. I also show how to use REAPER as a guitar tuner.

I have two HB Basses, the JB20 and the PB-50 FR. I play mostly on the JB20 but I am very keen on buying the PJ4 SBK. I just love the looks!
Thanks for your comprehensive review! I have the same bass for recording only and love it! Be careful though, the finish easily scratches.
I have two HB basses, the PB-20 Black/White and the fretless PJ-40 FL. Very happy with both, however on the P-bass one of the tuners start to rattle. Have put Fender flatwounds on it and it sounds very warm/smooth now :)
I own an Enhanced MJ-4EB in a Creme finish that I picked up as a B stock for a bit over $200. The neck is fantastic, and the finish is lovely. My big down check was the warped pickguard; it's getting replaced. The pick-ups were okay, the stock electronics a bit cheesy. I replaced the pickups and electronics with Delano pickups and a Delano preamp. Yes, the bass was worth the upgrades. For less than $700 I now own a bass that is comparable to a Sandberg without the boutique price tag. Would I consider buying another Harley Benton? Absolutely! When you consider that modern Squires cost twice as much and you end up with a poplar body or that a MIM Fender will cost four times as much and you are not getting a significantly better bass, it's a no brainer.
Is so soft 😭🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇
I have the same bass, I have like 7 HB's and the main box is always messed up.. but the goods inside have always been undamaged. I ordered this bass cause I wanted a bass, i didn't have one in my collection and for the price of like 115.00. It's awesome. If anyone hasn't mentioned it, it's a basswood body, maple neck Amaranth fretboard.

Nice, it's a great playing bass, I'll have to find something to feature it on here soon. Enjoy yours!
Congrats! Nice looking P bass, I have been looking around their website, and maybe I'll get a 5 String Fretless Acoustic Bass (B-35BK-FL), and a guitar, not sure yet 😐 😅 All the HB's instruments "reviews" I've seen have been positive so far, so... I have to check too Hahaha

This one is nice, but it's nowhere near the top of the bass I grab to just screw around with, or even work on a part. But for $200 I figured why not, and it's definitely worth way more than $200 imo.

@@HiKZreadImDad Yeah, I get that these HB instruments are not top level, but they are playable, built with some quality, and can scratch that itch for a new instrument that won't be taking the first spots on the lineup, another option without braking the bank ;-)
I have 3 HB basses...one fretless jazz, 1 regular jazz and this one. I really like this one but it is neck heavy. I'm thinking about attaching a flat peice of steel to the body. The thing headstock wants to bow to the ground.

Yeah it's because the wood of the body is so light. It's much lighter than my Fender for sure.
I got a 6 String Harley Benton B-650 Black Progressive Series. I just play and like to play music so am no bassist (closest is classical piano). The head seems to have a tendency to crack right at the top where I put a tuner. It is an active bass but I really like all the strings and how it sounds. Two humbuckers of some sort. Supposedly sounds better playing it in passive. Especially with the software I have. (Then I have two guitars from thomann, One Tele in natural and one more expensive single cut Harley Benton SC-550 II BCF. That said I do have an old superstrat HSS from Godin (A 24 fret intro level) that I have grown most fond of. I also have a four string active-only Schecter Diamond Stiletto Extreme with strings on it older than sand. :) )

Sounds like a nice collection!
Hi. When adjusting the truss rod does your truss rod key touch a bit on the wood? Mine fits really tight so when i turned it, it did scrape away a little bit of the cavity finish. I corrected it with a black marker (not the best solution but it doesn't show at all and the spot was small anw).

Yep, it did the same on mine. The wood is really soft there, almost like balsa wood. I'm not sure what a solution would be, maybe carve out enough wood so the key no longer scrapes, then sharpie/paint it?
That's the one I've been eyeing.... No, no, no, maybe next birthday.....
should I get this as my first bass? im looking for something really affordable

Sorry I completely missed this comment. Yeah it's definitely a decent instrument for the price. You may also want to check out some of HB's other models. If they have a P/J style bass for a similar price that may be the way to go, to give you some more versatility.
Do you own any Harley Benton instruments? What do you think?

@Doogyrevko wow Of course, what other wood would it be made out of? haha, thanks for the info!

@Doogyrevko wow What about weight and balance of the pb-20? What's your perception ?

I have a jb 75 that I really like, it arrived all cracked and smashed up at the bridge end of the guitar. It weighs a tonne so it was obviously dropped in transit. When the replacement came it was fine but there still wasn't enough padding in the packaging though. It plays great. Also have a HB ric copy that's pretty decent.
