Such an incredibly fun song from Pentatonix -- I don't think you can listen to this and not immediately get in a better mood! The perfect summer send-off IMO, and I really enjoyed analyzing this one. Also PSA: I had to file a fair use dispute to get this video un-blocked, so preemptive apologies if it gets taken down! It looks like the claims were removed, so hopefully we're in the clear 😅

You're right on with the Scott/Matt duality and how they augment each other by sharing ranges. Kirstin and Mitch do exactly the same thing up high. They can sing so alike that you literally can't tell which is which. And then take on their "own" voice in the next measure. PTX is super-talented.

That Mitch finger sign is thumb and forefinger pressed together. It's a Korean heart sign. Great analysis as ever, Peter. Your bass is good!

Every current member of PTX can rap... only Avi couldn't, though this was the first song Matt rapped on outside of concerts, where I believe he did at some point (I've yet to get to a concert). I understand the urge to jump on the new releases, but I am still really hoping to see you react to New Rules x Are You That Somebody? (on KZread 😭) The Kevin/Matt Timbaland beat is so prominent that it just seems perfect for your review-style.

I have no idea if 2 years later you will even see this. I love the way you do your reactions. I learn so much from you. Now I'm going to have to binge watch the others. I've taken a very long break from PTX reactions bc my dad got cancer during the pandemic and died. That sort of took the joy out watching them for a very long time. My dad was a lot like Matt. A huge jolt of joy and sunshine. It was interesting how you escribed the video when you said when Matt's part came it brightened the room. Thats what I think happen when he started with the group. In case you don't see this, I'll write the rest of my comments about Matt under the interview.

The finger gesture you were trying to figure out is common in South Korea. It’s a finger heart - just slightly crossing the thumb and forefinger gives a heart silhouette (if you stand way back and squint with one eye!). Also, all the members of PTX can rap except Avi.

Love this mash up, especially Matt, he is bassing, baritoning and rapping!

Scott is amazing. It's wild that he can fill the bass when Matt is singing.

I'm not a follower of BTS, so I was totally unfamiliar with both of these songs (I absolutely LOVE what Pentatonix did with them though), and it took me a few viewings to realize that the black & white scenes were Butter and the color scenes were Dynamite. Clever editing in this one!

You're like my favorite music teachers, the ones who knew the value of not taking music serious all the time, while still being serious about music. Love your vids 💕

Yes! I love when people comment on Pentatonix that understand that they take music seriously, but not themselves.

Color - Dynamite ; B&W - Butter. I love they did this mashup, I thought Butter was very reminiscent of Dynamite when I first heard it. I like your analysis and when you sing along. Love your bass voice. Talent recognizing talent.

The color part of the video is each time they’re singing dynamite and the black and white is during Butter. Except at the end Mitch is singing background butter lyrics during the dynamite color part.

Awwww, PETER! You sell yourself short~ with your complexion you could TOTALLY pull off the mint green blazer! And I agree with you 1000% - the skillset of whomever is involved with the arranging of their songs, knowing when to have the backups/support (for lack of a better term) sing/sustain single vowels vs singing text and having it be SO SEAMLESS - it's just riDICulously good. I mean, their arrangements have been solid from the get go from their time on The Sing Off, no doubt about it. And now? GahdDAYUM. And always so FLAWLESSLY executed...SO good!

Bro.....Matt sings lead the entire song on their cover of "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch". Check it out. You will enjoy it.

I'm pretty sure Mitch is literally a different person in every video lol. There aren't many vocalists that can give me the chills like him, the only ones off the top of my head that I can really think of are Freddie Mercury or Elvis lol edit: if you're up for some mild criticism, the content itself is just great, but it might make it better to use some noise cancellation on your voice audio and turn off auto-focus on your camera. I think that's your laptop fan I can hear the whole video, and while it's not too big of a deal, noise cancellation will just sound better in general. Both are pretty minor points, but your content is so good and you clearly are passionate about what you're talking about so I figured I'd just add my two cents.

It's rare for reaction videos to be something I go back and rewatch. Somehow, your pentatonix ones seem to pop up in my mind on a semi-regular rotation. The combination of genuine enthusiasm with knowledge (without being snobby) is such a comforting vibe.

I agree with you Peter. This performance is a feel good from start to finish. Clever how they went to B/W for Butter and color for Dynamite. "A Little Space" featuring Ateez is their original song with a colorful video. You might enjoy their performance of "Seasons of Love from" this year July 4th PBS. Kirstin hits it out of the park!!!

Hey Peter, new subscriber here. Just wanted to say thanks for your knowledge and insight. I’m a big fan of many types of music but especially a capella groups going way back to Take Six. I really appreciated you expounding on the rhythmic relationship between Matt & Kevin (& Avi before) because to me it’s one of Pentatonix’s greatest strengths. They GROOVE as tight as any old school Funk band and that gets lost sometimes because of all the other things they also do so well. I know you don’t do a ton of reactions, but if I would love to hear your take as a Bass singer on the new song “Stranger” by Dimash. Although he is likely the most gifted vocalist on the planet right now, he isn’t that well known here in America. But your analysis and ability to not only break things down, but explain them would be invaluable. Thanks again!

At 8:57 Matt drops to some C2 on the chords that he previously sang C3s, so that's the lowest note in the song

Love the analysis! I'd love to see you react to more BTS - maybe start with their Tiny Desk performance since it's one of their more stripped back lives, or recently they covered the song 'Missing You' on BBC Radio One, I'd love to see what you think! P.s. if you're interested in rap BTS has three amazing rappers with unique styles - I'd recommend checking out 'Ugh' "Daechwita' 'Shadow' and 'Blue Side' for starters.

Peter...I was bowled by your speaking voice. It reminded me of my late hubby. He had a beautiful Tenor/baritone singing voice too. I'm new to your videos and liked the extent you cover the musicality, the beatboxing, the interchanging of voices, range, pitch, vocal production etc. You even got the finger action on Mitch. Yikes, you don't miss anything! Quite an analysis as you listen and I find it very educational. I am enjoying it all. Keep up the good work. I'm probably one of the oldest listeners. I have been involved with Acapella singing most of my life. I'd say since I was about six. That's well over 65 years! Yes, it true...Noah loved the building trades! I loved the harmonies, etc. Took right to it. My Mom and siblings, sang and interchanged voice parts and all played musical instruments. Those were my roots. Then into H.S., college joined various groups and mostly sang acapella. My hubby and I both were very involved in Theater Arts and various other musical genres. Great and wonderful experiences, and met and worked with some wonderful artists. I don't understand what you were referring to as regards your possible video problem and or a video being taken down. Can you educate me on that aspect of the possible glitches of your video work? I would think you need some oversight on what you are going to be reviewing, and need to keep it genuine for approvals to air. I also wondered if once a video content has approval to air, unaltered, why would they take it down? Did I get the right drift on this? Hope to catch you soon, I'm a fan.......

Love that you focus on the bass and percussion. No one else does. Most stay with the melody. On another note, how about reacting to Postmodern Jukebox. Their renditions of "Creep" ft. Haley Reinhart or "Dream On" ft. Morgan James are some of the best of this genre.

Mitch and the others didn’t put up the middle finger, they did a heart sign (with their thumb and pointer finger) which became popular mostly in Asia around last year or so! I’m not sure if BTS did it in their video or if it’s just a shoutout to their Asian origins.

I’m a fairly new subscriber to your channel. I subbed as a Pentaholic and really look forward to hearing your perspective as a bass singer. I don’t think a lot of reactors know what to point out about the bass or percussion like you do. However, I’d like to hear comments about Kirsten different than the ones I’ve heard you say up to this point. I’ve only heard you talk about her makeup or her clothes. Really?! I’d rather not hear anything than listen to those comments. If you continue reacting to Pentatonix I’d encourage you to learn some background material about them. As an example, in this video Scott takes over bass for Matt when Matt has the solo. Scott also does this in Hallelujah. It’s kind of a big deal! Scott’s range is incredible. I know that there are a couple who can do basic beat boxing, but nothing that complex. If they decide to do this one live, I suspect the beat boxing would simply drop out briefly while Kevin raps unless he uses a loop system.

Pretty sure they double tracked Kevin, meaning he beat boxed that line and also rapped. In other words, I doubt they can fully perform this live

@@papapapow7352 Absolutely. They've done that quite often in recordings, adjusting the arrangement as needed when live. Recordings and live performances serve different purposes.

Not trying to be picky, but it's not Kristen. It's Kirstin/Kirstie. The normal pronunciation trick is Kirstie like thirsty. Or Kirstin like Thurstin. Just don't want you to get on her bad side. ;)
