I've just purchased this book ... It's absolutely superb ... both informative and educational. I'm looking forward to having some fun with Duck's bassline's.

Really interesting information about the great Donald 'Duck' Dunn. BTW the bassline for Soulfinger should be credited to James Alexander of the Barkays.

This video proves the tone is in the fingers. The guy playing soul man sounds nothing like Duck.

wait a minute.... Elwood? What's his name? I'm not sure this is the right guy to be doing a bio on Duck. I really appreciate his knowledge and inspiration for Duck but the kid has a very boring presentation and when he plays the basslines there is no feel, no sustain what so ever. And that is what Duck was all about, FEEL! He played simple notes but with great feel! I don't know but I don't think he did Duck justice. We need someone who can put some heart into what he is saying and playing to discuss the legacy of this man. But I love him for doing it and getting it out there. Just saying.. And concerning Duck's evolvement as a player, in his younger years during the stax era, he had to play in a very disciplined way for the singers and the drummers in the studio. By the time he got to the Blues Brothers, he got a chance to take it to the next level. If you want to hear the ultimate Duck bass playing, check out the live concerts of the Blues Brothers in the late 70's. He played his ass off! Also on the film soundtrack, he does some great stuff. She caught the katy is maybe the funkiest, tastiest bassline I have ever heard. He played some serious bass lines on that stuff. Way, way, way more out there than the stax stuff. I would have loved to be in on this conversation. A Duck Dunn clinic should not be this boring!

Chris: I agree with how you describe Duck's playing but Nick did say he is not really a blues bass player. He studied jazz and transcribes music. Nick was simply demonstrating the transcribed accuracy of Duck's notes. I have the book and it is a great help. I'm not sure anyone could accurately reproduce the feel and sound of Duck's playing anyway...so it makes sense to have the author do it.
