SUP Rob Ross! This made my day! You better believe I play bass! Ltd make a stellar instrument. No i have never played their bass, i tried out their guitar, which are incredible - i bet their basses are straight sick! The frank bello and surveyor ones especially catch my eye! Yours sounds super! This one sounds good also. Now, i always keep the old strings to tell where to clip the new ones! Less forgiving than stringing a guitar! I do sometimes try tuning naked, i can get pretty close. bass is more tricky with this because the human ear naturally picks up higher pitch easier. Def make a cooking video! I dig cooking! I have been getting into deep frying things and bbq! I love the palm muting, this is the secret weapon of a pick player. This is an Ellefson signature. The new strings sound good, are they stainless steel? Thank you for another video! Have a killer metal week! Keep brring and denging 🤘😡🤘

Now this is my first love! Rather than little league I was forced to learn bass (and drums) starting in ‘71 when I was about 5. Love guitar a lot but more just out of love and pursuit, and only played rhythm in one band in the early 90’s, but always bass, so I’m digging this video. I might be in an oddball category when it comes to strings, as in I like different sizes and brands for different things. I set up individual basses for specific things, and have preferences for each. For my fretless I like Fender heavy flats, for my 5 string I like heavy DR Fat Beams, for my 6 it’s medium heavy Black Beauties, and for my 4 string Jazz it’s medium Black Beauties. If I ever get around to building a new 4 string, I’ll set it up with some old school tape wounds like my mothers ‘66 Vox Apollo, which at 75 years old she still plays! It might be an odd way to achieve different vibes and sounds in the age of superior electronics, but it saves me from having to try and electronically manipulate one instrument into many hats. Great video Rob, Modding and maintenance is one of life’s secret little pleasures, for those that haven’t discovered it yet.🤘🏻

@@iamgribs it makes the world of difference in getting action as low as possible without dead notes, buzzing, etc. It also improves the intonation all the way across the neck when you crown the frets after the levelling process. Essentially the process is as follows: 1. Get the neck straight as possible. 2. Check the frets to see that they are all seated correctly. If any are lifted, tap them or set them back in. This is very important. 3. Mark the frets with a texter, then run the levelling beam across the frets until all the marker is gone on all frets (you will start to see where high or low frets are as the wearing off of the marker will not be uniform until you are approaching the end stage of levelling. 4. Once you think the frets are level, check your work with a fret rocker up and down the board to see if there remain any high spots. If so, mark just those spots with a marker and carefully focus the levelling beam across the problem fret and the few neighbours. 5. The crowning process- mark all the frets once again, then use a crowning file (I recommend the frets guru dagger) to file each fret until the line left by the marker on the fret is uniformly thin. This ensures a hemispherical "crown" on the top of the fret, allowing a fine point for the string to resonate on. 6. The polishing process- use successively finer grades of fret rubbers or sand paper grits until you reach 2000 grit, then use a polishing compound. Frets will be levelled, crowned and shiny af!
