Bass Drum Technique Double Stroke (Semi-Slide) Drum Lesson

Музыка

I teach you how to play fast doubles using 1 bass drum pedal. Do's and don'ts. This is somewhat like a slide but I don't actually rely on sliding. It's more of what it looks like as it gets faster. You'll notice in my explanation that I actually strike the pedal twice differently. Instead of once (slide). But for simplicity sake you can call this a slide if you want. It doesn't really matter what it's called to me. Hope this video helps you with your foot work!

Many drummers uses it. Smelly of NOFX uses it. NOFX is a punk rock band and I was amazed when I first knew them. I reallly thought Smelly uses double pedals until I first saw a live performance and he was only using 1 pedal. On the metal scene, Trey Williams of the death metal band Dying Fetus also utilizes heel-toe technique, the amazing thing about him is he can switch between heel-toe and swivel technique even switching in different tempo. Drummers are really awesome.

The drummer works the hardest in most punk songs because of the right foot. Ask the guitarists to do the equivalent on their guitars and they will understand 😉. I play with the plastic side for the tone it provides. If your knee hurts, you are maybe working too hard, have some old injury, or have built up too much fatigue, or just have some other underlying causes we don't know about. But anyway knee pain not a good sign, be careful. Last thing anyone wants is for an injury to put the brakes on their drumming journey unexpectedly.

Oh i think nothing is really that had if it gets you playing as fast and accurately as you like. Haha these are just my recommendations. Those who can play really well also play differently with their own tweaks and styles.

There's some slide. Hence I titled this semi-slide. Not that important whether you slide or not, it's what becomes most efficient for you and your pedal

  • @ArtOfDrummingHQ

Yes sort of. You start in heel up. But you can incorporate this as a double technique instead of think whether it's in heel up or heel down.
