Bass Drum Technique Double Stroke (Semi-Slide) Drum Lesson
Музыка
I teach you how to play fast doubles using 1 bass drum pedal. Do's and don'ts. This is somewhat like a slide but I don't actually rely on sliding. It's more of what it looks like as it gets faster. You'll notice in my explanation that I actually strike the pedal twice differently. Instead of once (slide). But for simplicity sake you can call this a slide if you want. It doesn't really matter what it's called to me. Hope this video helps you with your foot work!

Yes this is a typical kind of punk rock groove haha
I think Dave Lombardo used this technique for when the fast riff kicks in after the intro in Raining Blood, judging by a clip I saw on youtube of one of his drum clinics.

Many drummers uses it. Smelly of NOFX uses it. NOFX is a punk rock band and I was amazed when I first knew them. I reallly thought Smelly uses double pedals until I first saw a live performance and he was only using 1 pedal. On the metal scene, Trey Williams of the death metal band Dying Fetus also utilizes heel-toe technique, the amazing thing about him is he can switch between heel-toe and swivel technique even switching in different tempo. Drummers are really awesome.

The drummer works the hardest in most punk songs because of the right foot. Ask the guitarists to do the equivalent on their guitars and they will understand 😉. But they're mostly playing 8th notes. But yes I hope this helps you, it does take a lot of practice to get it down fast. All the best!

A man or lady after my own heart … I’m a firm believer in playing with the plastic side of the beater and seeing this sloweed down shows me exactly why my knee hurts after I play fit a long time
@ArtOfDrummingHQ
Жыл бұрын
I play with the plastic side for the tone it provides. If your knee hurts, you are maybe working too hard, have some old injury, or have built up too much fatigue, or just have some other underlying causes we don't know about. But anyway knee pain not a good sign, be careful. Last thing anyone wants is for an injury to put the brakes on their drumming journey unexpectedly.
@howitusedtobe
Жыл бұрын
@@ArtOfDrummingHQ yea absolutely for tone and response … the knee thing is from the way play this particular pattern I think it’s that rotating of the ankle and leg on the double stroke … when I play that groove for extended periods I get a little tendon thing or something in the knee
Nicko McBrain called. He wants his foot back
I would also suggest the slide technique if this doesn’t work for you. Spring tension, throw, and you anatomy influence you bass drum technique. I encourage you all to try the slide step technique if this doesn’t work.
Time to practice more...🥁

Oh i think nothing is really that had if it gets you playing as fast and accurately as you like. Haha these are just my recommendations. Those who can play really well also play differently with their own tweaks and styles.
This technique is so easily done without the use of your heel.

Yes sort of. You start in heel up. But you can incorporate this as a double technique instead of think whether it's in heel up or heel down.
Your foot ends up with some lateral movement which you don’t explain?
Looks like the slide technique
When do you lift up your leg though?
