Basking Sharks Cornwall

(0.47 you can see it's mouth closed)
It is really unusual to see Basking Sharks this late in the seasons so I jumped at the opportunity to have one last dive with them this year.
If you get the chance to swim with these magnificent creatures don't harass them. Don't chase them instead wait quietly for them to come for you, don't make any sudden movements that might disturb them and don't try and touch them.

Surprised at all the comments here. This shark isn't terrifying at all - it's totally harmless and actually quite sweet. See how it politely avoids the diver as it eats some plankton (and that's all they eat). It has no interest in harming humans at all, let alone eating one! They've even got little dots for eyes, not like the large and scary beady eyes of the carnivorous shark species.

Sadly I'm not surprised. Any video with an insect, crustacean, shark, arachnid, snake, ray, or mollusk will have thousands of people saying "kill it".

Aquaphobia? :) I was always scared myself, caves, seaweed beds, deep water. I just forced myself to overcome it. It helps that in the UK there aren't too many deadly creatures in the sea to worry about.

tell that to the zooplankton.
My sister and I were standing in 4ft deep water at Scalpsie Bay, Isle of Bute, watching red mullet swim around us. It was blissful. Then a giant shark smashed his tail fin on the water just yards away from us. I'll never forget hearing my own heart pounding in my ears as I panicked to get out of the sea. I also heard the very calm voice of a man standing close by, "It's only a basking shark, he won't hurt you". 'Jaws' ruined an extra special moment in our lives. I now know we were honoured to have been so close to an amazing creature.
The way it materialized out of the dark at the beginning freaked me out, but it is indeed an amazing creature! Great footing, thanks for posting it.
I like how the song started out as "ahhhhhhh" with his mouth wide open🤣🤣🤣
Perpetually yawning must be sleepy
what an amazing creature. truly a sight to behold
It must have been an awesome experience! Would love to experience swimming beside one of these behemoths one day :)
beautiful creature
awww
Legend has it, that the basking shark's mouth is really a portal to another planet, wear everything is a shark. Shark flamingos, shark cats, and shark flowers.
I half expected a shark in a bathing suit, I was surprised the shark isn't actually basking, it's screaming but no one can hear it because it's under water.
This is a conversation I'm gonna have with someone now: Me: You have to see this Basking Shark... Friend: Whats a Basking Shark? Me: :O Friend: What? Tell me! Me: :O!!
Wonderful footage! Thanks for sharing this!
These are possibly the creepiest looking sharks out there. Imagine seeing this is dark murky water. I know they're harmless, but dang these things really spook me.

I love the look of these creatures.
Imagine how terrifying that must be seeing this huge thing coming right at mouth wide open and then swimming past you I would've gotten heart a attack
Wow this is my favorite shark
ugh I would have been scared! You are brave (although I know they wouldn't hurt you). So beautiful, great footage!
they can be found in various places around the world. They migrate long distances, but alot of their movements still remain a mystery. I dive with them in Cornwall obviously, they come in close to the coast to feed during the summer.
Thanks, they are incredible.
Basking shark my favorite shark!♡♡♡♡♡
So Huge! how beautiful! Thanks for the video!
Finally a shark in England nice job iv subscribed and liked
0:08 The basking shark looks like it's singing that "Ahhhhh" in the background music at the start of the video!
wow considering its size and ease of eating bet these are one of the most relaxed things on earth
People say it’s scary, I’m more freaked out by the ocean itself, seeing things fade into existence right in front of, or below you freaks me out.
When the singing teacher says you need to open your mouth wider for the third time when singing
I'm sorry to all you lovers of these creatures but, AHHHH MY MEMORIES ARE FILLED WITH THIS VILE LOOKING CREATURE. Wait, wait. Okay, anyone have a fear of the darkness? I don't. But when I see a dark hole, there is just something really menacing about it in my opinion and it creeps me out. And, the shark. You probably wouldn't be able to pay me to get near that thing, it haunts me. I hate sharks, mainly because whenever they open their mouths the back of their mouth is pitch black, and watching Jaw's doesn't help either.
The beauty of KZread!
Beautiful but scary at the same time
I live in Cornwall and last year there was a massive school of basking sharks at porthmear beach. It was amazing. Thumbs up if you saw it.
Was pretty terrified of them at first (still not sure if I wouldn't go: 'nope nope NOPE' if I saw them) but watching videos of them has made me less afraid of them. I like to imagine them as a kind of windsock kite - y'know like the one from the Smaug scene
Of course the pog shark is near the UK, it's where most weird things seem to appear lmao
Cornwall is definitely my favourite place in England.
Can we appreciate how good shark singing a song
Amazing how you can see right through the gills in the beginning
