Basketball - They Made The Game a Worldwide Game
Спорт
I edited and cut alot in this documentary.
So now it's an action packed 37 minutes special on the best team ever assembled.
The best collection of talent in teamsports history.
I can remember lots of people here in Europe watching their games dispite having zero appriciation for basketball.
I remember all the teenagers in Europe switching from soccer to basketball after the Olympics, now that is something to remember and something we call a legacy.
2012 USA basketball team was a good team, but you can never compare different era's.
The dream team of 1992 opened doors that can't be re-opened.
That being said, I loved and still love this game, but I have only watched one single game of the 2012 USA Basketball team and I'm sorry to say, I didn't even pay attention throughout the whole game, because it just didn't do anything for me.
The 2012 team should be remembered for what they did, period.
But unlike the 1992 team, the 2012 team can't claim they made lots of kids in Europe switch to basketball, they can't claim they made non-basketball lovers tune in to watch their games. I don't know what the 2012 teams legacy will be, honestly, I have already forgotten about them, sorry to say that, but they will probably have some kind of legacy, I'm just saying that I'm not aware of it at all.

I was 13 at the time. These players made me and a whole generation fall in love with the game of bball. While bball used to be a strange sport here in Europe it was now the number 1 sport overnight. Magic, Bird and Jordan were respected and revered around the bball world by other international players. Still gives me chills when I watch this shortened re-edited version of the dreamteam doc. Thank you all for watching
In the summer of 92 I was 10 years old and barely ever heard about basketball. Then the Olympics came along and I saw the first Dream Team... I fell in love with that game immediately and started to train and play it myself. I can see how Kucoc was furious in the game against Croatia - but years later, he's just gotta know that it was the ultimate compliment. The Dream Team was steamrolling everyone, but *one man* intimidated them to the point of special plans. What an amazing player he was.

Not hating on or downing Kucoc but the goal of any team, no matter how good, is to shut down the best player. So of course they locked him up, he was the star. That being said, the man was a great player. He shot the lights out!

@@thesnorman-graffiti3315 I see what you're getting at and I partially agree with you, but you're leaving one glaring point out. There were not many (if any) "great international players" to be worried about for Team USA in '92. As far as I know, the only one they tried to snuff out was Kukoc. Imagine Jordan *and* Pippen on a mission to destroy *one man.* I think the goal of any team is to shut down the opposing team. They only swarm one guy if he is the biggest threat. He definitely was a great player, I'd even go so far as to say one of the top 50 all time.

Every doc on this subject fixes on Ervin, Bird, and Michael. The mind-blowing part is that Malone, Robinson, and Patrick, etc. were there to score and win, equally. Turn the camera away from the personalities, and you have supreme basketball talent from top to bottom. Feels surreal, even 30 years later.
Larry and Magic will forever be one of the greatest stories in sports for all the right reasons.
An absolute pleasure to have lived through this time. I watched this game on TV. I was glued to the monitor. I get chills just remembering their dominance on the court. Outstanding sportsmanship and unparalleled in their skills.
Definitely a golden era of NBA right there.
The greatest time of watching NBA. Bird vs Magic will never replicate.
some of the biggest goose bumps and excited I felf was magic assisting Larry, a very special moment
This has to be best team, ever in any sports team
When Magic and Bird started in the NBA the attendance was down with many empty seats and the finals were tape delayed and shown at 11pm with little interest and those two guys changed that. The CBS contract paid a high price and players benefitted. It was remarkable what those two players had on the game of BB. Like Arnold Palmer in golf all players should thank these special players for the impact on their respective sports. Absolutely remarkable.
They was the best there was ,God Bless them all, love the old days when it was real basketball,
Imagine what MJ's trophy case must look like. Two Gold Medals on the second shelf...insane.

He was also high school 1st Team All-American and a McDonald’s All-American.
What an amazing bit of history, and so very well put together. Thank you.
First off, they couldn't have picked a better coach than Chuck Daily. He knew what it would take to bring all these BIG heads together and make them 1!
Magic’s embrace by the other players on the dream team, yes I know all about the earlier controversies over his HIV status, tore down walls that fear and misunderstanding about the disease had created. BILLIONS globally re-examined their preconceptions and that was an even bigger accomplishment than making basketball a global game. You can argue that is why Magic and millions of others have survived AIDS and the research also led to better treatment of other diseases caused by viruses.

I was 9 the Summer of '92. In my little town of Fairview, Oklahoma, EVERYONE got together at SOMEONE'S house every night there was a Dream Team game on. I can remember the nights where the neighborhood ended up at my house, 25 people +/- in our little 1300sq ft home, in the living room, watching on our heavy ass 32" Zenith, kids on the floor, adults on the couches or just standing, having pizza and Pepsi, watching the good old US of A just kicking the ever loving shit out of whoever we were playing that night. Everytime we scored or made a steal or a block, the whole house would rattle from the thunderous of my friends amd neighbors. Looking back it was a magical time.
i really enjoyed this, thank you :)
Chuck Daly- Master and Commander.
That 1992 Dream Team team overshadowed every other competition and even for people like me who weren't basket-ball fans, they became basket-ball fans. Plus this team had fun playing together and you thought it was the Harlem Globe Trotters on tour. The basket-ball competition wouldn't had been as exciting without them. For those who critisize the score difference they don't know what they're talking about. It's the same in every sport. I'm a soccer fan and if you can win by the highest margin then you do it. If you don't then you're not respecting your opponent full stop.

@Jacob Bolton I was interested so i read up on it. The dream team was made because Yugoslavia was beating them at junior and olympic tournaments. The biggest loss is the legendary coach Duda Ivkovic (huge inspiration for Pop) who went on to coach serbia. Player wise Jure Zdovic (starting point guard) and Vlade Divac (starting center) jump out right now i'll update if i find anything. So better coaching and a better starting 5, more depth on the bench. It would have been a lot more competitive, but USA probably still gets the win. Edit: Zarko Paspalj was another serbian, scored 15 on USA in 1990
In the history of sport, no matter which it is, there will never be another squad assembled to rival this one!
