BASIC SETUP GUIDE! How to get a basic setup in rFactor 2, Assetto Corsa, iRacing or R3E

Ойындар

Is your car handling like the USS Nimitz? Are your tyres lasting shorter than a Kardashian marriage? Are you slower in a straight line than Per Mertersacker? Then chances are your setup isn't right. I've found that setup guides online make the setup process too difficult, so I've attempted to shorten it down and make it easier for you. Maybe my teaching degree wasn't a total waste. ARE YOU HAPPY NOW MUM!? DO YOU LOVE ME NOW?!

Thanks for making the effort,. However a couple of picky items; You refer to stiffening or softening ARBs (plural) to deal with over or understeer. In fact if you have a balance issue you adjust them at one end or in different directions. IE Understeer you soften front or stiffen rear or do both. Oversteer you do the reverse. The end you soften has more compliance, more roll, more grip. Doing the same thing to both ends will leave it pretty much the same. Brake Bias; as well as making one end or another lock up or not it has a very real impact on under/oversteer balance. Moving it fwds will create some understeer, moving it rearwards will create oversteer. The reason is that you are tasking one end with more retardation so there is less contact patch for lateral grip. This is why during a lap you might move brake bias, and during a stint as wear impacts balance. Kerbs; Fast bump dampers is the first port of call. Also how many laps had you done before you started tinkering with set? Track awareness will bring you a lot of time in early laps. Only once you are stable within 0.2 sec can you judge setup changes. But yeah, dealing with it all properly is many hours of video or a good guide. There is a limit to how simple it can be made stuff interacts. Oh and Carlos Sainz moved to F1 did 2 seasons as Verstappen( ran him very close) and then Danil Kvyatts team mate (who he smashed) . He has now taken Palmers seat at Renault on loan from RedBull who are keeping him contracted as their insurance policy if Ricciardo moves on. David O'Reilly hi Dave. Thanks for the info and the guide (you guys know more than me!) this was meant to be bare basics however extra info is always welcome. I was being sarcastic when I asked about Sainz; I've said the same thing about Adrian Newey haha

I believe that increasing both ARBs in equal measure will result in a lower center of gravity while cornering, which will improve overall grip, despite the notion that lowering ARB = more tyre grip (which actually means = more grip on the loaded tyre due to more mass being transfered to it).

Interesting approach, I make setups a little different, first I establish a top speed only using wings and gears. Then I concentrate on springs and brake balance, I do runs where I only concentrate on the largest braking event. ex stoping for bus stop chicane a Spa, or last chicane at Suzuka, I only adjust springs, I don't worry about turn in or corner exit, just get it to stop in a reasonable point with no lock up. Then I work on turn in and corner exit, adjusting anti roll bars for slower corners and adjusting camber for as even wear as you can stand. Once I have adjusted wings, gears, ARB, springs, camber, brake balance that gives me reasonable feel and the tires get to close to optimal temps after a lap or 2. After that is established I start to go into the 2nd layer of adjustments like toe, differentials, air pressure, ride height, dampers. Then I go back to to beging and see if my braking ability and top speed is where I left it, or got better, then work on turn in again and repeat.

Thank you for this video! I was really struggling with the Mustang GT4 in Project Cars 2. It was drifting and sliding everywhere. But after your video i was able to improve my laptime immediately from 56.687s to 54.179s in the very first lap after I changed the setup! Thanks!

My most favorite part of this video is when you told me that a guide I used almost 20 years ago is still applicable today. I guess it's time to dig up those old F1 Challenge guides again.
