This is to show how to do a basic setup to run three axis stepper motors with Arduino CNC shield with GRBL 0.8C, GRBL controller is used to send gcode/.nc file to arduino
A4988 is stepper drive each for one axis....
This is useful in making of 3D printer, Engraving CNC, Milling CNC etc

How do you determine the step settings for each motor? such as which pins under the drivers to use jumpers on and what settings to use on the G code sender? in my case I'm using the Universal GCode Sender (java)

I thought any steppermotor was able to be used as long as not exceeded 2A ? one last question if someone knows because I don't , is it possible to connect another bigger stepperdriver in serial after the arduino shield just to use the signal from the A4988 driver to for example TB6600 4A so mounting bigger steppers don't burn your arduino shield ?

hi,i have built one of these cd/dvd stepper 3 axis practice cnc's,the grbl version is v1.1f,i did use the 0.9 version, but decided to upgrade the arduino IDE and grbl to eventualy use a laser, the thing is,i can't seem to get good accuracy from my cd rom steppers, the steps/mm is hard to calculate,as there are no details of the stepper manufacturer, can you tell me the steps per mm you used,i have worked the mm per revolution, but seeing as i have no idea of the step count for one revolution this would be quite useless. I see your videos showing fully functioning cd rom cnc's drawing with good detail, this is my first goal, could you give me some advice please. Thanks.

This is a great idea, buy you can buy a brand new laser cutter or router mountable cnc 3 axis machine with software loaded for under $300 complete and ready to use! The uno alone is over $400 not to mention the rest of rest of the list of parts that are needed? Sure this is a fun project but not cost-effective?
