Simple tips and precautions to help maintain your Canon PRO-200 [and other printers] in good order, cleaning, leaving the printer on and when repeated cleaning cycles only waste ink.

    Thank you, Keith. I purchased a PRO-200 printer several months ago and am quite satisfied with it. This video on preventing and removing dust and excess ink build-up is very helpful.

    Great straightforward information as usual. Like you suggested, I keep an old tea towel over mine, though it did occur to me that a record player cover would work excellently. I only say this because my record player costs more than my printer!!

    Good info and suggestions, as always. I keep going back and forth about doing "printing at home", probably like many people. Maybe watching your videos helps, but maybe it causes the desire to own, to not be so much of a desire. There is a ton of upside, but also can be a ton of downside too. Thanks for stating all the pros and cons so we can decide on dye, pigment, cartridge size, quantity, papers, color or B&W, and more...

    Hi Keith, having never brought a printer of my own before, I originally was looking for a printer that may potentially meet my standards of a good quality image print (not photos). I set myself an original target price and after some research I was looking at an Epson eco tank 4850. For context I have set myself a personal goal of setting myself up just a small business of my own art prints. After watching a fair few of your reviews I've opted to skip the 4850, which by what I've seen is not a bad printer, and saved extra expenditure to go straight for the Epson ET 8550 photo printer. I feel this may possibly be the best for myself due to the flexibility it offers. I just really want to take a moment of my day to thank you for all your shared in depth knowledge and how appreciated it truly is. I'm feeling I'm making a proper informed decision on my purchase with your information. I truly am thankful for your content.

    To me, borderless printing seems a bother, and not worth the trouble, what with over-spray. I don't understand the printer driver's built-in portrait/landscape orientation, and I don't understand the built-in fitting to paper size. So I tell my Canon Pro 100 driver to print borderless. But I set a Scribus rectangle to keep the print away from the paper's edges, usually with 1/4" margins on all sides. Also, I'm afraid I'll mess up if I try to print "landscape", so I always print portrait, which can require rotating the image before sending it to the printer.

    The issue usually comes in the driver/software, but the PRO-100 was much more picky over margins than the 200 - it's one on the most obvious 'improvements' for some users. Using the expansion and fitting options always seemed bit unpredictable - one where I'd need to test on plain paper with a mostly blank image

    thanks for this info on cleaning the pro 200 ,i had noticed the rollers recently discoloured but the sponge i hadn't given too much thought its much cleaner now . Also in previous vlogs you mention you don't use Lightroom , i was wondering what system do you use to catalogue all your images ?

  • @KeithCooper

    @KeithCooper

    2 ай бұрын

    Thanks I don't formally catalogue my images as such - the forced use of a catalogue was one of my major dislikes of LR in the past - I also don't like 'non destructive' editing, lack of layers, blending modes and it's whole way of dealing with printing... :-) All original camera files are stored by date. The date cross references with invoices and client details. I do have assorted collections of processed files, but they are stored in an ad-hoc hierarchical folder structure. A full catalogue is a project left to my estate ;-) :-) Of course, that all depends on the sorts of photography - if I was a wedding photographer, I might well use LR - but I don't do any photography work dealing with the public [no portrait stuff either]

    Always check if there is ink running all the way through the tubes leading to the head. If there are air gaps, there is no point in waiting between cleans. My G540 rested for a month or two once, and when i checked back on it, it was printing just fine but mid-image a color just dropped out completely. When i looked inside, i was horrified to notice that half of the colors' tubes were empty mid-way. I couldn't even understand why only one color switched off. Then i discovered a medium cleaning pushes a couple centimeters of ink back into the tubes. And so i repeated the cleans until they filled back up... then a "fun" couple of days followed of problems coming and going and coming back again, until all the dang bubbles inside died at last. I'm perfectly prepared for inks drying, but these tubes going empty shenanigans unexpectedly i wasn't prepared for. (PS: the tanks were full...)

    A good point, but there are no tubes in the PRO-200 ;-) I'll include this when I do a version for any such printer

    Thanks for your videos! Two questions. 1. I have not adjusted anything on my pro 200 as far as sleep or turning off since I bought mine about a week ago. Mine turns off on its own by the following morning. Should I adjust it so that it doesn’t turn off or let the printer just do its thing? 2. Sorry if I missed this but it sound like you wet the paper towel before cleaning the rollers. Do you wet it also before dabbing up the ink on the pads (he pads in the picture on your screen)? Thanks!

  • @KeithCooper

    @KeithCooper

    2 ай бұрын

    Thanks I just left it set at default IIRC For the rollers, yes, you can make some of the paper a bit damp, but for the sponges - that was absorbed by dry kitchen roll - it's quite gloopy ink

    Kieth. I have an Epson 8550. I set it up and was able to print documents using my iPhone. The other day I turned the printer off ( not unplugged). Today I turned it back on but now I have lost the ability to print using my iPhone. Can you please, Sir, advise on what I may need to do to get that option back, please? You have helped me before, I hope you can again. God bless you, Sir.
