Mr Gussow, just feel I need to put It into the universe. I watched your Documentary early this year and it changed my life. The story was so deep, not only did it assist me in discovering the Blues (where was it all my life!) but you covered the journey of Mental Health so well. Not stigmatising in any way but instead inspiring. Most importantly on a selfish level your movie made me fall in love with the Harmonica. Since then I have started learning and have purchased all your beginner and advance beginner material. It has been so much fun and and added so much to my life. So thank you for Inspiring me, someone who said they could not play any Instrument for years. As a manager of Mental Health Services in Australia, I have directed all my staff old and new to watch your movie. Cheers.

@@human-connections It's called "Satan and Adam". It's available on Netflix in the USA and a few other countries. Otherwise, you can find it on Amazon. It's well worth the purchase price. I've watched it four times, so far, and it made me cry every time (in a good way)...each time for a different, new thing I got out of it...and I already knew the story before seeing it. That's how good it is!

Two great examples of "repetition-with-variation" are Beethoven's 7th & 9th symphonies. In each he takes a few reoccurring theme & proceeds with variations in rhythm, melody, tempo, phrasing, textures, tone, mood, intensity. He totally exhausts the possibilities while keeping to a consistently recognizable & recurring theme. (And if you study his life, you'll know he was a bluesman at heart.)

I've been playing blues harp for nearly eleven years...with major thanks to you since the very beginning...and _this_ video (right around the 12:05 mark) perfectly defined a "rut" in which I often find myself. I often trade _expression_ for _precision._ Jon Gindick told me, several years ago, that I needed to work on _restraint,_ and I'm still working on it. To paraphrase Sun Tzu, he will be victorious who knows when to play and when _not_ to play. I seldom play a note I don't intend, but now I'm working on simplifying, minimizing, and finding the music in the rests. (I love that you referenced Jason Ricci later because several of his _own_ seminars have included the lesson that non-stop lightning can become monotonous if we don't break it up and slow it down.) P.S. MAD RESPECT for being honest...and _vulnerable..._ enough to amend, "I'm not really warmed up, and this harp's not really comfortable quite yet," _to,_ "Let's be honest. I was tryin' to show off a little bit, and it didn't quite work for me." (I guess we're both still working on restraint.) As much as any technique, honest self-evaluation is an invaluable skill...in music and in life. Thank you, once again, for setting a great example!

@@gussowsclassicbluesharmoni2726 Solid points! It's just a matter of learning what songs (or sections of songs) call for what kind of expression and how to let the fire...breathe. Of course, you already know all this. LOL! Your video on blues archetypes is a great _crash course_ in this; I often remind myself, "You can't _always_ be a warrior."

Hi Adam just wanted not start off by saying you are hands down my favorite blues harmonica player of all time. Although I would have to compare my style to Jason Richie , you are what I truly aspire to be like one day. One thing you mentioned during this amazing lesson, was you were an endorser for Honer 🤔 and not only that they give you free gear. If you could what advice would you give to a player looking to get on the level of playing. I have watched almost all your videos and the one were you touch on how to make a career out of playing the harmonica. My goal is to by this summer be able to get out on the street and be busking. The only think is having the funds to buy decent equipment...... I am also a guitar player so I have a VOX valvetronix 50vt amplifier among many and lots of different mics. But really I would like to get the Honer Bulletin for practiced and be my main harp. But where Im from just outside Vancouver BC Canada. Thoes go for around the $100 . So if you could give me some pointers I would really appreciate it. Happy harping. Yours truly. Steve.
