I am in a nursing home and trying to relearn Hungarian to communicate with a fellow resident who uses the language to communicate with me. Knew it over 70 years ago...hope some of it comes back. Want to keep my mind working. Thanks for the effort...will take some time, but will try. Thank God for the Internet. Good job! I live in Ohio, USA.

Steve Molnar I used the Duolingo app for a year and it really worked. I can even read and write now. I even make corr3ctions and they send emails thanking me. I am 75 and left Hungary when I was 5 so never went to school there. Try Duolingo.it is free.
I can't wait until it comes out! You are my favorite person to try and learn Hungarian from.
Please make more of these videos! You are such a great teacher.
Thanks Eszti! By far the best teacher on here. Clear, simple and not too fast or slow. Great!
You are very good and a charming teacher. I am going to Budapest only for a few days and I hope to impress the local people with a few nice words in Hungarian which I have learned from you. Thank you.
Thank you for these videos! I can't wait for my trip to try some of these phrases. You are a great teacher!
You are helping me learn!!! Thank you so much. I hope you do some more of these. I need more common phrases. Friendships, work, cooking
Excellent new that you are preparing a new project. I will be one of your students for sure! Your basic lessons are great. I am leaving for Budapest soon and will be sure to try homemade palinka!
I am very encouraged by your lessons. You are an excellent teacher. Many of the words and phrases bring back memories of my childhood growing up in a Hungarian family. All my relatives are Hungarian my dad was born in Racamaz but I was born here. They all spoke Hungarian and I did too until grade school; then lost it! Now its fun to try and learn it again. However there are NO Hungarians in Longview, Texas that I know of to speak to.
Looking forward for the series of Hungarian lessons! I'm sure they will be fine, you can explain everything very clearly! Bye.
I can't wait for that new series! I hope it goes well and we can see it soon.
I love these videos and they are a big help. Koszonom szepen!

Wonderful tutorials. I watched the four videos and hoping to subscribe to your next one. Thank you. Or should say köszönöm!
Are you going to make anymore videos? I watch these over and over. I’ve tried watching others, but I like the way you break everything down.
Just a short question out of peronsal interest: The language you grew up with was ? The languages during growing up you got in contact with besides were ? If not answered in previous 2 questions how did you get to the hungarian language? Besides that: Keep it up and don't miss to provide us with an expression of the "you" who is responsible for all this motivation and cool videos!
Koszonom szepen Eszti!

Hi Eszti, i have seen ur 4 videos which were on basic Hungarian language, i have found these videos very informative n the way u explain about each word and phrase is fabulous n interesting. In your next to tutorials I would really love it to learn a couple usefull phrases I can use as tourist in Hungary (Budapest). For example: Where can I find the subway? How much (money) is this? I am from (example) Berlin. Where are you from? I would like to eat some really hungarian food like goulash or palacsinta. Do you have an evidence for me, where I can find a good restaurant? I like Budapest very much! I am a student. Sorry, can you repeat that slowly? - My hungarian is not that good. I only speak a very bit hungarian.

You speak English very well!
yes please, build on these lessons. I'm living in Papakovacsi and study Magyar two nights a week with an interpreter. I need a lesson on what is different in cultures, like you mentioned the cola light. I have 50 stories I could tell about how what I think and do is so different than the custom. I can't even tell which cat food to buy the strays, sterile or house? How to find the root of a word, why the water is still or with fizz, or even how to work a convection oven... keep making video's. Köszönöm kivanok

What is the best source material for learning simple Hungarian sentences and alphabet etc?
Great video. I notice that oftentimes, the "L" is very lightly or hardly pronounced. Is there a reason? Even in the word "elnezest"
The archeologist found a small board, on which was written Ave Caesar vavan and they were thinking what does vavan mean. A hungarian farmer came there, took a look at the board and read it: A wc zárva van (WC is closed). Edit: I hope this is funny
i would like to really get the ground words. cause being a American Hungarian, i did not pick up on a lot, and now, all my parents and ants and uncles are gone. i would like to pass this on to my daughters.
More videos legy szeves. Colors, foods, common descriptors. :)
Good videos, Eszter. Just to say that V in English is like the V in Hol van. It is not pronounced like a W. The V sound never changes.
New video new hair style I like it :D
may you please make new video for learning hungarian thank you
guys did the series come out cause I really need that if it did then may you please reply the link
Hello your videos are very helpful really but please teach formal and inform way to speak with friend and teacher thank you so much dear
Szia, any new basic Hungarian videos? I just found your channel
Please make more
nagyon tetszel this video and kérek more :)
@koruchan9769

there is a little help :) nagyon tetszik* - "tetszel" mean "i like you" "this" mean "ez a" "and" mean "és" "more" mean "még" or "többet" - both of them are correct now. We use commas like - "I would like to have lemon, apple and banana" "Kérek citromot, almát és banánt" However, in your sentence we do not use "and". It sounds in hungarian a little bit funnily. We understand what you want to say, but it is incorrect. It is complex sentence, so we use comma instead of "and". "nagyon tetszik ez a videó, kérek még/többet. The perfect one would be: "Nagyon tetszett (ez) a videó, várom a következőt!" it means --> "I really liked this video, I am waiting for the next one."
legy szives new lecture videos i want new videos the project you are talking about where i will find these
nice :)
I have been waiting since you have promise to have a whole set of courses start from the beginning however they are not appeared in your acount up to date 2020-11-03
Szia Eszter azt szeretném kérdezni hogy te mit dolgozol?
can you do more videos please
I know it has been years, but please make more...
Gyimóthy Gábor, Firenze 1984. X. 12. Nyelvlecke Egyik olaszóra sodrán, Ím a kérdés felmerült: Hogy milyen nyelv ez a magyar, Európába hogy került? Elmeséltem, ahogy tudtam, Mire képes a magyar. . . Más nyelven, hogy mondjam el? Jó lett volna szemléltetni, Botladozó, mint halad, Avagy milyen őgyelegni? Egy szó - egy kép - egy zamat! Aki „slattyog”, miért nem „lófrál”? Száguldó hová szalad? Ki vánszorog, miért nem kószál? S aki kullog, hol marad? . .! Forrás: Transylvania, 40 évf. 2. szám.

Dear seredyya! ÜDVÖZLÖM! Yes there are several ways to say 'HI!' in hungarian, but it depends on who you're talking to, his/her age, and sometimes the situation as well. If you are speaking to a well known person (family, friends), you can say: - SZIA (meeting one person) or SZIASZTOK (2 or more) and you can use these to anyone. E.g. Szia anya! (Hi mom!) or Szia Ross bácsi! (Hi uncle Ross!) BUT we DON'T use it plural, like: Sziasztok Peter and Sam! (Hi Peter and Sam!) CORRECTLY it's: Szia Peter, szia Sam! (Hi Peter, hi Sam!) or it's just Sziasztok! without using any names. - SZERVUSZ (meeting 1) or SZERVUSZTOK (2 or more) are the same as SZIA and SZIASZTOK, and we use them the same way as well (I'd say they are a bit old fashioned, but still in use) E.g. Szervusz Peter, örülök, hogy látlak! (Hi Peter, nice to see you!) - SZEVA or SZEVASZTOK (use this only between very close friends, it's a form of slang, and I never heard a woman using it, but it can happen) E.g. Szeva srácok! (Hi guys!) or just Szevasztok! - HELLÓ (use only in singular, there is no such thing as HELLÓSZTOK, although I heard it before, but it's not correct grammatically) - very COMMON SLANG words to say hi, you might hear a lot, is CSÁ or CSÁÓ (from the italian ciao) and CSŐ (these are used between friends as well), or u can use HALI (slang form of hello) These above can be used to say hello, and to say good bye as well. Mainly we say SZIA or HELLÓ. SZIA is a more sympathic, HELLÓ is more of a neutral way to say hi. So for example if I find a girl sympathic at first sight I mainly say SZIA and for man I say mainly HELLÓ, but it's not a written rule. If you are meeting a new person, and he/she is about the same age or younger than you are (e.g. one of your friends introducing you to one his/her friends), you can use SZIA, SZERVUSZ and HELLÓ as well, if you are younger (two 50 aged man rarely say SZIA to each other for example, they use SZERVUSZ or ÜDVÖZLÖM instead). ÜDVÖZLETEM, ÜDVÖZLÖM or shortly ÜDV is a more polite way to say hi, escepcially when you won't get introduced and meeting someone alone. They all mean the same: Greetings E.g.: Üdvözlöm! A nevem... (Greetings! My name is...) Üdvözletem Kovács úr! (Greetings Mr. Smith! smith =kovács). Younger people mainly use ÜDV (the short version, because we are lazy :) Üdv Anna, hogy VAGY? (Greetings Anna, how are you?) or Üdv Anna, hogy VAN? (Greetings Anna, how are You?). The second expression is addressing the person formally (polite form). If you are saying hi to a totally unfamiliar person, especially if he/she is older than you, or you are at a job interview, you must use the polite/formal forms, unless you don't want to be rude. So all of the expressions above are wrong, except ÜDVÖZLÖM/ÜDVÖZLETEM, even ÜDV (short version) is out of the question. In this case, we can use: - JÓ REGGELT (Good morning), JÓ NAPOT (Good day)/ SZÉP NAPOT (Nice day) JÓ ESTÉT (Good evening) and JÓ ÉJSZAKÁT (Good night) are used as in english, but we don't have the expression Good afternoon (E.g. Jó napot szomszéd! (Good day to you neighbor!)) If you want to be even more polite (or you really want the job :)) you can say: JÓ REGGELT KÍVÁNOK! meaning I wish you Good morning! These expressions can be used for meeting a man and a woman as well - as I mentioned ÜDVÖZLÖM/ÜDVÖZLETEM can be used, the short version not - if a man or a younger woman meets a lady, he/she can say KEZÉT CSÓKOLOM or KEZEIT CSÓKOLOM (literally meaning "I kiss your hand", even if they don't do that, of course it's not forbidden). Or in this case, it's not rude to use the shorter form CSÓKOLOM, witch has the same meaning (E.g. (Kezit) csókolom Margit néni! - 'I kiss your hand' Mrs. Margareth). You can use the form KÉZCSÓK, CSÓKOLTATOM as well, it means the same, but it's generally used in the countryside. - you should never use the informal expressions to elder people, unless they gave you permission to do so. In this case, they'll say: TEGEZHETSZ, TEGEZŐDJÜNK, meaning you can "switch to informal mode" from now on, so SZIA, SZERVUSZ are allowed to be used (BUT NO SLANG!) For saying Goodbye we generally use the expressions SZIA, SZERVUSZ, HELLÓ (or the plural versions)informally. If you wan't to be polite, or you didn't get permission to use the informal expressions, you should use VISZONT LÁTÁSRA (meaning See you again) or the short version VISZLÁT, it means the same. Or if you say Goodbye to a lady, you can use CSÓKOLOM (and the other forms) as well (but it's not necessery, VISZONTLÁTÁSRA is good also). (Actually youngsters use CSÓKOLOM for elder man and woman saying hello and saying goodbye as well). There are more expressions what we use, mainly in the countryside, but I think these are the basics. I certainly hope that this "little" novel helped :) VISZONTLÁTÁSRA seredyya!
Köszi ez a videot, kedves Eszter!! It was so useful! I have a question: How do you apply the more "definite" form "kérem" when asking for something? :)
